Nice unit with good features and works well |

I installed this fan a couple of months ago and have been very happy with it overall. It was fairly easy to install. It can only be used as a ducted unit and offers several options for ducting it. Straight out the back via the knock out sized for a 5 1/4" x 10" duct or out the top via a 5 1/4" x 10" duct or a knockout for a round 7" diameter duct. The unit comes with an adaptor (including a damper) for the 5 1/4" x 10" knockouts and an adaptor for the 7" round knockout as well. One thing I found to be very nice about this unit is the manufacturer has designed it so that the 5 1/4" x 10" duct adapter can be installed one inch off center to the left or right side. This can come in very handy when you are running the duct straight out the back and may need more clearance to avoid a vertical stud inside the wall. This unit is advertised as including a 42 watt fluorescent light bulb. However this unit only comes with a 26-watt fluorescent bulb which is also the maximum rated wattage for this unit. The 26 watt fluorescent bulb (equivalent to a 100 watt incandescent bulb) gives off plenty of light in my opinion. While installing this unit I found that with the fan on high speed the metal body of the top side mounted against the hard wood of the kitchen cabinet bottom allowed it to vibrate and caused it to rattle loudly. I found that cutting an old foam rubber mouse pad in narrow strips and using a staple gun to line the entire mounting surface of the cabinet bottom isolated the fan from the hard wood and eliminated all of the vibration induced rattling. I like the built-in night light as well. It doesn't provide a lot of light but is as good as any other night light. I would recommend this model to anyone looking for a good looking modern styled unit with a fairly powerful fan that vents to the outside.

    Good value |

The hood installed easily, gives off good light, does a good job, and looks nice. It's a good value for the price. Caution: the instructions say not to touch the blade unit when installing, and they mean it. Pressing on the blade unit can easily cause enough warping to make it wobble and interfere with other parts when spinning. Sadly, my helper did that and I had to replace the blade unit. Once I did that, the fan behaved normally. The noise level (when you *haven't* warped the blade unit!) is very quiet on low, and not bad on high. The design is better at pulling air from the back burners than from the front burners, which means if you want to vent smoke from a pan on a front burner, you will want to have the unit on high, not low.

    Excellent value for money |

This item replaced a 25 year old hood that never did work all that well and had become gross looking. Was gratified that I didnt have to do any changes in mounting or wiring. Looks great! One small problem: The box had evidently been dropped on the end and the motor brace slightly bent, so that the fan rubbed on its baffle opening. If this happens, just remove the fan blade, grab the motor and torque it away from the side that rubs. May take a couple tries but it will work. Beats the hassle of return and hoping the next one is more gently handled. Also if you look at Lowes, you may not find the exact item to compare. My lowes had unit with 'touchpad' control instead of discrete switches. Despite I'm an engineer, I prefer the switches. See no reason to 'computerize' something this simple. What's next.. a smartphone app to control your range hood? lol

Manufacturer and product description are of 2 different models |

The manufacturer's description lists the this as both ducted and non-ducted. The QSE130SS is only ducted. Can not be used in a non-ducted situation. Uses a centrally located axial type fan. The fan is centered above the stove cooking area providing good venting. Fit at the side panels has gaps.

    Good for the price |

I like the price and the quality of the item. The light is great and the low setting is perfect as a night light. The only thing I discovered is that the front part of the vent does not suck in vapors because it obviously has the light in it. It has good suction though. If I had to choose over, I would pick a Range Hood where the entire bottom was able to collect smoke rather than just the back half.

Great looking, affordable, quiet hood with optional duct, bright energy efficient light and night light |
    Verified Purchase

I bought this to replace an existing range hood. The previous hood was installed lower (it was a shelf-type) and was ducted using an odd size ducting and was routed inefficiently. I found this Broan hood to be very easy to install and duct. It has a plastic piece to block off the ducting if you want to recirculate the air, but my wife and I really wanted to be able to duct the hood out. The hood has an option on top and on the back for the duct work. I used the one on the back and it works great. Got this in white and it matches our white stove perfectly. You can barely hear the fan at all on low, and on high it is quieter than others I have owned. It is effective in moving air out, I have about a 6 foot run of 4" rigid duct going out through the wall. The part my wife and I liked best of all though is the lighting. It has 2 settings, an energy efficient CFL bulb that is nice and bright and a 4 watt incandescent night light. We use the night light every night and it is perfect. I got this all for under two hundred bucks and felt like it was a good investment. I would buy it again and recommend it to anyone looking for a good looking, quiet white hood with option to duct (or not) and you aren't looking to break the bank.

    Nice but loud |

I purchased this range hood to replace an old one that was not vented outside. I paid someone to install it and vent it outside. It works very well and it looks very nice. It is very quiet on the low setting, but it is extremely loud on the high setting. The light is very bright on high, but very dim on the low setting. Even for a nightlight, it doesn't provide much light.

Got this at a great price from amazon warehouse deals (just over $39 wouldn't have went this route otherwise) Purchased the optional carbon filter and I am very impressed with the lighting and power of this unit

    Overpriced for quality offered. |

Replaced a weaker and louder hood with this one. I was pleased with the air draw and quietness on low setting. On high setting it is much louder but one can still have a conversation without raised voice standing in front of it. For the $235 price I am not impressed with the build quality. It arrived poorly packaged and had some dents- most of which were hidden by the cabinet after installing. Due to the thin metal I was able to push the other dent back out with my hand and it is barely noticeable. The included damper was cheaply made and would not mount tightly on the back and once fastened would stick in place, so I removed it and put the old damper on which now works fine. I had to tape over the top area where the duct would go if venting overhead as the removable plate had gaps around the edges and I do not want the fan discharge going in between the hood and the cabinet. This really gave me the feeling of an overpriced poor quality hood. The front edges under the cabinet had gaps due to the hood sagging, so I had to drill extra holes along the front top sides of the hood to screw the hood in place under the cabinet and get rid of the gaps. I'd try another hood over buying this one again.

    Nice replacement / upgrade |

This unit replaced the cheap original hood that came with the house. The wife likes the stainless steel finish and the focused lighting. I like the filters that look to be easy to clean - the manual says dishwasher safe. Noise seems to be average.
