I have had the older version of this fridge for many years. The old one didn't have a fan, so the temperature variation from top to bottom was terrible. Also the old one didn't get very cold. They have fixed all those issues. The interior fan keeps everything at the same temp, and that temp is 38 degrees! Completely silent. Great fridge.

    Great beer fridge |
Huntington Beach, CA United StatesVerified Purchase

We bought this fridge for the backyard so that we could keep cold beer there. It works great for that. It keeps the beer at just the right temperature at all times. This fridge is built very well and should last a long time. Its capacity is awesome; I can store two-plus cases of beer in this fridge. Skoal! RJB.

Would recommend this to everyone. No more using a cooler to keep bottles of water and pop cold and at the ready. This is one of my favorite items i have purchased.

Had these for about 3-4 months and it still working great. I wish they made this model in a smaller size exactly the same. This fridge can fit a ton of drinks and is the best. Would recommend.

    It works but....... |

It works but doesn't keep beers super cold - also a little noisy. The door gets condensation inside - not sure if that means that its not sealing properly.

I put the fridge in new retail store for added sales, and it only lasted two weeks before quitting. Yes, it's under warranty; however, the allocated space is not making money, and the customers are disappionted.

    Love this Beverage Center!! |

This Beverage Center is exactly what we needed! The item arrived fast. We kept it first over night just upright position before connecting it to power. It cooled for few hours and then I filled up with drinks. It cools fast and makes drinks wonderfully cold!! I just love this unit!!

    Great beer frig! |
    Verified Purchase

The fridge works perfectly for my bar area. The only complaint I have are the wire racks, which are not ideal for bottles. I plan to line the racks with either cardboard or plexiglass to prevent the bottles from tumbling over. I was nervous about the temperature, but my beer is plenty cold!

Broke after about 1 month |
    Verified Purchase

The unit stopped cooling at all after one month. We bought it for our small business, and the warranty does not cover commercial use so that is of no use. We are 2 days past the return date for Amazon so it won't take it back. Basically, we got totally ripped off. I usually don't leave reviews, but I thought it was important to share this information.

Danby DBC120BLS Beverage Center - Stainless Steel |

Doesn't really get too cold, doesn't latch closed well- even a small bump opens the door. The lighting inside frequently goes out and the little leveling feet on the bottom are flimsy and easy to damage even just moving them.

Has condensation build up that leaks unto the floor. Thought that if we locked the door it might help keep the door closed tighter but this did not help.

Little noisy and does not cool enough |
    Verified Purchase

This refrigerator looks very beautiful and reasonably priced. However that is all the good things about it. It is noisy and even after keeping the cooling set to "Highest" beverages are not really cold as they should be. I am not returning it as it will serve my purpose of beverage cooler in my small office. It is better to spend $100 extra and get a better beverage cooler.

Holds a lot of cans with a clean stainless steel look. The best part is that it is lockable so kids can not get into it when you don't want them to.

Was looking for a beverage refrigerator for our family room. I hesitated because of the reviews complaining about the damage during shipping. This one came packed very well. There was no damage. We left it sit for a few hours and plugged it in. That was over a month ago and it is working fine. It keeps our wine pop and beer very cold. No adjustments needed.

Very nice refrigerator for the price! Only downside I've found is the wire shelves require cans or bottles to be balanced just so. I cut myself some plexiglas shelves to fit. Very quiet and nice looking.

this beverage center is very good it keeps your drinks very cold and you can use this for a lot of type of different beverages like for example 2 liter pepsi and mt dews can be put in there and be cold. I had put 2 12 packs of mt dew baja blast and 2 12 packs of pepsi cherry and 2 12 packs of mt dew and also had food in there like dips and milk when it is 11pm at night for bowl of cereal.

    Overheats and ices up |
    WIVerified Purchase

I purchased this unit for displaying small items in mybakery. It overheats (hot to the touch) andices up both inside at the rearas well as around the copper line in the rear of the unit. While it looks great, the performance is quite lacking. The unit is located on a solid surface and is level, the control dial is setcorrectly but still this unit overheats. I would not reco mend this refrigerator. I am still awaiting product resolution.

Door tends to pop open |
    Verified Purchase

The size and modular racks on this is pretty good, but I've noticed that unless you close the door very carefully (rather hard when you're grabbing that 3rd+ beer), it tends to pop back open as the magnetic strip isn't very strong, or perhaps it's loose or misaligned.

Works perfect... when it wants to. I've had someone come out to repair it but did not keep going strong after. After we had bought it, it lasted 4 months before it died on us, then another 5-6 months after the repair. This beverage chiller is a pain.

Perfect for our game room! |
    Verified Purchase

We placed this on a flat board in our game room because we originally had it sitting on carpet and it was very difficult to close the door. After reading the reviews, we were a little hesitant, but for the price and the amazon refund policy, we decided to take a chance. We did what one of the reviewer suggested and let it sit right-side up for a day before turning it on. I does make a gentle humming sound, but we don't notice it hardly at all unless there is no movie or music, which is almost never. You can adjust the temperature and also make the light always on or only on when opened. We like to drink Propel in the plastic 16.9 oz bottles, so we took out a shelf and we put them on their side. The drinks are very cold! The only negative issue is that occasionally even with the fridge elevated on a piece of 3/4 inch ply-wood, the door does not close. We've tested several things and have determined that it is when one of the kids swings the door closed quickly, it bounces back and stays open. But it looks and works great - plus only $200 bucks - bargain!

This was purchased to be a beer fridge and hold the occasional bottle of wine. It has exceeded our expectations. It cooled very quickly. I love that it has a light. Something i missed in the description is the fact that is has a lock!! We are holding mostly bottles in it right now, but there is no issue with room!

    Great beverage fridge |
    RVAVerified Purchase

Unpacked it very easily - pay attention to the directions on the inside box - simply cut the straps and lift the cardboard right up - no need to try to lift a heavy fridge out of a cardboard box - made it very easy and I'm glad I caught the instructions before doing it the hard way. Plugged it in, threw some adult beverages in it and it's keeping them cold. My only complaint is the wire shelves can be a little tricky to put 12 oz bottles in upright as the bottles can tip over if you're not careful. Not a major gripe and I'm sure I could put some shelf liner or something down to help with it as well if really needed.

    Nice beer cave! |
    Verified Purchase

Very impressed with this fridge. I use it exclusively as a beer cave and it keeps everything nice and cold. It is tall enough for cans at the top, bottles on a middle shelf, and bombers at the bottom. I am deducting one star because I am having a hard time switching the door hinges to the other side. There is a plastic plug on the door that needs removed, but I don't want to break it or damage it as I try to pry it off. So I am holding off and living with the hinge direction that it shipped with.

    Performed as advertised |
    Sausalito, CAVerified Purchase

I purchased one of these for a nonprofit, to display and sell beverages in a small visitor center. In every way this beverage center is meeting or exceeding my expectations. It is compact, yet spacious enough to hold LOTS of beverages. There is a small light at the top of the unit that shines down, illuminating the beverages below. The shelves are coated metal, spaced nicely for cans, although I had to adjust the upper one a bit to accommodate a Snapple size bottle. The unit is very quiet, and the magnetic seal around the door closes it completely. There were ample instructions for set-up and operation, and it comes with a 12-month warranty, 14 months if you register it online. It is an excellent unit, and I can recommend it heartily.

    It's functional |
    Verified Purchase

This unit appears to cool fine and looks nice but the main challenge I've seen so far is the magnetic gasket that keeps the door shut is not strong enough. The door will "bounce" when you shut it and then remain open. We use it for soft drinks and the kids usually grab and go, not necessarily slamming the door put giving it a push and taking off. It doesn't take much to make the door bounce open.

    ooo lala |

Its like a kitchen cabinet for beer. Not soda - just beer. The advertised picture shows Diet Cokes, Pepsi and Red Bull..... Well I hide that junk in the big fridge with stainless doors so it can't be seen. The beers however I proudly display in the Danby DBC120BLS BEVERAGE CENTER. So sexy! Every time I wander into the kitchen BAM there's cold beers staring at me through the glass like a puppy in a pet store. (puppies only cats are like sodas keep them behind the stainless). Cats suck.....kittens too. A little tip for you inexperienced folks, start your beer drinking from the bottom shelf. It will be easier to grab from the higher shelves as the beers side effects kick in. Another tip: (This is only necessary if beer is stocked)... get some of those stickers that old people put on glass doors to keep them from walking face first into it. Some friends and folk that stop by for a cold one will freak the ?%** out when they see this Danby DBC120BLS BEVERAGE CENTER stocked with some of daddy's sweet sauce in a can, they may damage their wrist, or possibly their face reaching for a can. I suggest stickers of the dragonfly because dragonflies are badass. NOT as badass as puppies but badass nonetheless. Last tip: Buy this fridge. I got this machine on sale for 199. free shipping. I researched it one week and the next week the clever individuals at Amazon sent me an email showing it on sale. Clever bastards. Cheers !!

Item arrived with the packaging in good shape, excpet for a rip here or there. Can't blame the manufacturer as this is probably an issue with the carrier. No damage to the item during transit. Keeps the beer cold and looks very stylish in my bar. I agree with the other reviewers that the shelves are not very good for cans, I'll probably add some shelf liners or plate glass as one of the other reviewers mentioned. Otherwise, I really like the product.

Arrived in great condition, looks good, functions great. It takes a little maneuvering to get the shelves set up right for all the bottles and cans that I wanted to put in it, but It holds plenty, and keeps it cold enough. Very Good For Use As A Beer Cellar |
    Brooklyn, NY United StatesVerified Purchase

I began researching a variety of cooling devices to store my ever-growing collection of beers and was frustrated by the dearth of information readily available for such storage. Dedicated beer refrigerators/coolers were far more expensive than their wine cooling counterparts and, given that I was looking to keep the cost relatively low, I was unwilling to shell out more than $300 for one. After seeing the wide variety of thermoelectric coolers available, I was initially reticent to purchase a refrigerator because it seemed like there was a steep price differential between the two. The more I considered proper beer storage and read about the aforementioned coolers though the less comfortable I was with using them. Ultimately, I came across the Danby DBC120BLS Beverage Center and liked what I saw in terms of the price, the reviews, and the product itself. I liked also that at least a few people were using it to store beer and so I made my purchase. I wound up setting it up last night and discovered a few things that I thought would be of interest to anyone else in search of something to use as a beer cellar. BEST ASPECTS OF USING THE DANBY BEVERAGE CENTER FOR BEER CELLARING 1. The adjustable temperature range covers a wide assortment of beers. Usually the target temperature for aging beer is between 50-55 degrees Fahrenheit. Many of the thermoelectric coolers feature extremely narrow ranges with the LOWER end being closer to the low 50s (which means that it would have to work essentially at max capacity at all times just to maintain the temperature). Plus, if there are any temperature fluctuations, say, of five degrees or more, you could wind up impacting the long term quality of your beers. The 43-57 degree range of the Danby is great because it affords more leeway, particularly if you live in an area that gets particularly warm in the summer thereby creating a substantial temperature differential between the interior and exterior of the refrigerator. 2. At the $200 price point, you'll be hard-pressed to find better capacity. By comparison, most of the wine cellars available at and around $200 hold less than 20 bottles and, in most cases, 18 or fewer. Depending upon what you are aging beer-wise, you will easily store double that amount or better with the Danby. 3. The removable shelves provide flexible storage layouts. Again, depending upon what you're looking to age, you will have a variety of options in terms of how to store your stash. The single most limiting aspect though is the type(s) of bottles that you're looking to age. When it comes to cellaring beer, the common best-practice is to store it upright, especially if the beer is corked. The problem with this is the fact that most corked bottles tend to be of the larger variety (750ml) and thus take up much more space than their twelve ounce counterparts. The existence of multiple shelf grooves will allow you to make the most of the space available but only to a certain degree. One of the photos for this unit had a comment that the user was able to get 49 twelve ounce bottles and 4 bombers for a total of 53 bottles. None of the bottles appeared to be corked and a few were being stored sideways--something to consider, again, if you have a variety of beer bottle types. As for my current setup, I have the top-most shelf in along with a single shelf towards the bottom dividing the interior into three zones. At the bottom I currently have 8 large bottles including three corked 750mls, 1 uncorked 750, and four bomber sized bottles along with 6 smaller bottles, two of which are corked. Now, you won't be able to take advantage of the full space on the lowest level because there is a small portion that juts out to allow water to drain towards the compressor during the automatic defrosting cycle. Having the corked bottles standing on a wire shelf ABOVE this point should allow you to get more in...but the thought of overloading the shelf and losing bottles of Black Tuesday and the Firestone barrel aged series made me anxious. Instead, I opted for the security of the ground level at the expense of housing a few more bottles (which, at present, I don't have). On the middle shelf I have 29 bottles approximately half of which are the standard slender 12 oz and half are the stubbier, slightly fatter bottles; these are all vertical as well. Lastly, I have six bottles stored on their side in two pyramids on the special top shelf. You lose a little bit of space at the very top so that you can keep the fan clear (the shelf is designed specifically for this purpose) so you can't make use of the ENTIRE interior. In total though, with nearly a dozen very big bottles, I was able to get a total of 49 bottles into the unit. They are perfectly chilled at the moment and, with any luck, they will remain that way for a long time to come. The bottom line: if you're looking to cellar beers then this is the ideal unit with which to do so!

You get what you pay for |
    Verified Purchase

I purchased this several weeks ago. Overall, I'm content with the unit for the price. The previous reviews here on Amazon were accurate, so I won't repeat what's already been said. The main thing I'll add is that the door bounces back open if you close it with even moderate force. Multiple times I've come back to find that the door was ajar. I tested it to make sure - you have to close the door gently, so don't be in a hurry when you're grabbing a drink. I'm considering adding a couple of magnets to the door, but not sure if there's an easy way to do it. The noise level is also an issue, so take that into consideration before you purchase this unit. We have it in a room where the noise isn't a concern. I wouldn't want this in a living room or den, where the noise would be a distraction.

A Nice Fridge but Beer Drinkers Beware |
    Sacramento, CA USAVerified Purchase

The good: the unit is quiet and it does a great job at keeping drinks at a nice, cold temperature. The door is reversible so if you need it to swing in a particular direction you can make it work with a little extra set-up time. It?s also a decent looking fridge. The bad: the unit really is designed for aluminum cans. If you plan to use this as a beer fridge and to store glass bottles in it, you should also plan on buying plastic shelf liners to place on top of the wire shelves otherwise your bottles will be unstable.

It was heavier than I thought (requires 2 people or a dolly to move), but it functions well with minimal noise. Keeps beverages cool, even when full, but maybe not "ice-cold." The glass door gives it a nice touch style-wise.

    So far so good |
    Westborough, MA United StatesVerified Purchase

I?ve been running the ?Beverage Center? for about a week now and have no significant complaints. It?s quiet, nice looking, and can chill at least 3 cases of beer down to the mid-30s (F). The door lock is especially nice for me as a father of teenagers. I?m running it on a counter top and haven?t noticed any water on or around the unit yet. My only (minor) gripe is that the wire spacing on the shelves could be a little closer; sometimes cans will not stand straight if positioned too far to the left or right of a wire. This is resolved easily enough by just using a piece of cardboard as a shelf liner.

Worried that I had never heard of this brand, but defenitly happy upon arrival. We had been using a name brand beverage refigerator for the last three years. It just stopped working for no apparent reason. We paid a lot more for the name brand, it was smaller and did not keep the beverages as cold. Upon examination I found the quality to look as good, if not exceed, the previous unit. The extra space allows me to keep some of my favorite bottles of wine on a separate shelf, stored in the horizontal position as recommended by the wineries. Would recomend that you take measurements before placing order as it is a little taller than most countertops.

This beverage center arrived intact with no dents. Very well packaged. Placed it in my wet bar area. Follow directions to cool it down for the first time. It is going under a counter but it is well ventilated. If you look in the specs it says it is freestanding which I guess means you should not build it in to a cabinet. It has a great look and keeps the drinks ice. cold.

    Noisy and Runs Constantly |
    Verified Purchase

This refrigerator seems to always be running and it's easy to tell because it's quite noisy. We can hear it in the next room over. The temperature setting adjustment is a dial with no indication of what the temperature is set at so I just bought a thermometer. Now the problem is the temp seems to fluctuate a lot. When I first checked, it was just at freezing... 32 degrees. I barely (and I mean by a miniscule amount) adjusted the knob and I checked a couple hours later and the temp had jumped several degrees.

I like the looks of the unit - I bought this in opposition to a 'normal' mini fridge so it could hold more cans and bottles without a small freezer and useless door shelves taking up space that could otherwise been used to hold cans and bottles. The wires on the shelves are a little far apart and have a tendency to make the cans or bottles tip or lean. This could lead to the contents spilling out or breaking. The shelf should have had a lip as to 'catch' roll-away bottles and can to prevent them from rolling onto the floor. Another review had some custom plexiglass cut and seems like a good solution - I will follow their lead - how ever I do not have that ability nor do I want to spend the money. I think I will use custom cut beer case cardboard to line the shelves. We'll see how that holds up to the humid summers. Lastly - the other review seem to be wildly different on the actual cooling temperature.. I placed a fridge thermometer in the front center shelf and get reading that vary from 40? - 45? this is with the unit to the maximum cooling level. The unit is well ventilated at ? capacity and out of direct sunlight - early March in Minnesota with an average house temperature of 65? and low humidity (dry winter air). What concerns me is when it starts to get hot outside and the temp in the house rises will this lil fridge keep up and still be able to keep the contents cool at below 45? (although I would prefer 35? - 38?). I am afraid it will not keep it at 45?.... Only time will tell. A little experimentation will lead you to find the right stacking/loading that fits your needs. I keep bottles on the bottom most shelf laid horizontally cap towards the door - if you take from the top of the pile the bottles do not crash around too much. I have not has this unit too long as to find the correct loading solution for my needs yet. I'll try to keep this updated as I continue to use this.

It's loud - no doubt about it |
    Verified Purchase

We purchased this fridge to go upstairs in our bonus room - it looks very nice and was a great price so I went for it. We had it for about 3-3 1/2 weeks now, so I've had some time to "test it out". We have it placed on a little wooden stand that we built for it (so it wouldn't be directly on the carpet) and made sure it had plenty of ventilation in the back as the directions recommend. We placed it in the corner of the room - probably 15-20ft away from where we sit. The fridge is loud - so much so that it disrupts our TV watching. It buzzes loudly and the fan stays on for significant periods of time. Very disappointed with the purchase - lucky for us there is still a few days to return it.

I just wanted to review this so people knew that I read other reviews where it was poorly packed and damaged. I can say that it was packed very well when I received it. The box WAS damaged but the packing protected the unit so it's likely the manufacturer reacted to the reviews. It was basically double boxed.

    BETTER Than Expected!!! |
    Verified Purchase

I wanted to buy a beer fridge for my husband as a surprise gift. I was very hesitant to purchase this fridge, because my husband is quite particular about electronics...especially large ones in our home. My husband is very much a "beer connoisseur" and he loves to try all kinds of new and craft beers. Our normal fridge in our home never has enough room for all of his beers, so I thought this would be perfect. I did a lot of research on many different types of mini fridges, and I have to say...this Danby fridge is by far the best fridge for it's price!! It has a beautiful stainless steel look (which matches all of my kitchen appliances) and it has sooo much space inside! It keeps the beer nice and cold, and it's not loud at all. Needless to say...my husband was beyond thrilled to get this fridge and he definitely gives it 5 stars! I would HIGHLY recommend to anyone searching!!

We love our new mini fridge but make no mistake it is exactly that: a mini refrigerator. I say that in the sense that it is about as loud as a regular fridge and definitely spiked our electric bill. It does an excellent job of keeping the drinks cool, but our electric bill went up about $60 a month!

Initially not impressed... but with slight modification now works great! |
    Phoenix, AZVerified Purchase

When I first set this up I could not get it to cool my beverages (mainly beer) below 42 degrees. When drinking beer this simply isn't cold enough. I was about to return this back to Amazon when I had a thought... I wonder if I can move the thermometer sensor and trick the unit to run longer and get colder. I simply removed the 4 screws from the black cooling plate on the back wall inside the fridge. Once removed you will notice the thermometer attached to the back of the plate. Simply slide it out of the holder and route the wire up and over the black cooling plate and extend it out towards the door of the unit on the right side. Then simply reattach the cooling plate with the 4 screws, I then wrapped the thermometer sensor with a small piece of paper towel and used a small piece of electrical tape to hold it to the side wall of the fridge, extended as far to the front of the unit as possible. Now I get a nice frosty 33 degrees consistently. Super easy and took less than 10 minutes. I only gave if 4 stars because I had to perform the mod to make it work... but now its a great little fridge.

Pretty bad deal i think |
    Verified Purchase

The fridge came well packed but overall it just looks cheap. Yes it has an internal fan that circulates the air but in my case the thermostat does nothing, all the way on one end the fridge shuts off, anywhere else it's 50 deg F. Glad i bought the service plan. I replaced the internal bulb with an LED one (the feit candelabra ones work) but i had to remove the transparent cover and trim a little bit of the bulb enclosure at the opposite end from the socket. Looks much nicer now. One more thing about this fridge is that the condenser on it si built into the sides, not in the rear. So don't mount this flush on the sides with furniture or other appliances because it won't be able to do it's job. Overall it does work but i feel like i could have done better looking locally.

This little fridge holds a lot of beverages and does a nice job of keeping them cold. Had to tweak the door so the switch would contact the strike plate to shut the light off. It's noisy, compressor is the loudest one I have in the house by far and that includes two window air conditioners. Seems to be constructed well enough.

I received this fridge about a week ago with no problems with shipping and the package had no damage. The unit was in perfect condition. Plugged it in and set it to coolest setting; it was slightly noisy during the cool down and does make more noise when cooling down after having the door open, but this is no louder than your kitchen fridge. Cooled down nicely. Bought this for a bar we built and it is underneath next to a wine fridge. I did give it the recommended clearance of 5 inches in the back and left side of fridge (I posted a picture). Fits most bears and soda bottles/cans with the right shelving adjustments. I would recommend.

    Saint LouisVerified Purchase

Overall: The price to size ratio is outstanding. I saw multiple similar sized mini-fridges going for $600+. The noise is a little more than I expected with the loud click when it kicks off, however, my last fridge ran CONSTANTLY, so in a way it is nice to hear this one kicking off. It "holds its cool" very well, and on its medium setting it keeps drinks plenty chilled. UPS delivery wheeled it right up to my front door. I'd recommend two people for moving it. 1 star off: Product was obviously packaged with mind towards preventing damage. However, the adjustable plastic left front foot was broken off. I had to put a book under it to even it out. It wasn't worth making a claim over because I feel like it was still worth the $200. Other people may feel more strongly about it.

perfect for your man cave |
    Verified Purchase

PROS: keeps beer, wine, and soda cold and refreshing, even at middle or lower settings. stainless steel finish looks great. light can be left on to display contents, or set to turn on only when door opens. lock and key can limit access to beer by minors. this is deep enough to hold a bottle of white wine laid on its side (front to back of fridge). i typically store some champagne or white wine in the top rack, soda and beer cans in the 2nd rack, removed the 3rd rack, store beer bottles standing upright on the 4th rack, and bottled water on its side in the bottom. CONS: the wire racks are spaced widely apart, which rarely causes bottles to tip over; but it is not a huge deal. makes about as much noise as a dehumidifier or air purifier when the compressor is running (it is inaudible most of the time).

great storage, shelves not well suited for bottled beverages |
    Verified Purchase

This is a beautiful free standing cooler that works well. My only negatives about this product are the shelves and noise. The shelves do not work well with bottled beverages as the spacing in the wire shelving is prone to allowing bottles tip over. Placing a hard plastic on the shelves reduces the impact of this issue. The cooler is slightly noisier than expected and produces a notable humming sound when it is operating.

Very disappointing beverage center. Does not hold bottles well, as shown in the pictures, so if you are buying for adult beverages, don't waste your money. It's very loud when it runs also and to get beverages cold, you have to put it on max, which seems to run all the time. Haven't own it a month, but too expensive to send back. Had to take a rack out in order to fit the bottles and they fall over ! I find the same true for the cans we have in there also. Would not recommend at all.

I had a little trouble with an initial unit, it had a nasty, burny smell which was making the cans smell. However this was remedied by just a click on Amazon to exchange for a new unit. That replacement arrived in just 2 days, the UPS man came in just 1 day and picked up the bad one. Now this unit is humming along great, it is nice and cold inside. Smells like a "normal" refrigerator smell. I like the light, I leave it on all time which is switched easily to only when the door is open. It looks very classy in the rec room. I put seven 12 packs in without needing to move the shelves from their original place. It seems pretty quiet to me as refrigerators go.

Perfect For The Rec Room |
    Florida, Il, MI

I bought this for our movie room. It is compact enough to slide into an area near the wet bar and looks classy with its clear glass and stainless front and black sides. It stores approx. 120 cans of soda or whatever canned beverages you may have. I have it set on medium which keeps the beverages adequately cool. From box to fridge cans take about a half hour to adequately chill. When the door is open the interior is illuminated. This is nice because you can retrieve a can while watching a movie and know exactly what you are getting. Since no one in my home seems to like the same beverage there is more than ample room for variety. Other reviewers commented on cheap or inadequate packaging. I bought the store model so I didn't deal with packaging or shipping. It went straight from the store to my SUV and was in pristine condition. As for cleaning, I normally give it a quick interior wipe down with a Lysol wet wipe when I restock and use window cleaner on the glass and a stainless polish on the perimeter. This is an upscale fridge that hasn't broken the bank, performs well, and keeps beverages adequately chilled. I've had this for over a year and no issues have occurred.

The shelves are white wire (not glass) and slide into slots as pictured -- Danby is not making them with rack-track style shelving as shown in some product photos. (I called Danby customer service to ask, and to get the internal dimensions -- great help on the phone!) I can EASILY fit 2 gallons of milk, several cartons of juice, and more in this fridge, all at the same time. I have the dial set to about 75% max to get it as cold as I like.

Initial issues aside, the DBC120BLS is an overall good beverage center. |
    Verified Purchase

So I'll throw this out there: your mileage may vary. All and all, it isn't a bad little beverage center for the price, but there is the potential for some pain points. The first unit we received cooled pretty well and got a little frosty around the heat exchanger which turned out to be its death rattle. No more than 4 hours after we plugged the unit in, it was dead. Normally I ignore the little "don't return to store" fliers that the manufacturers bundle with small appliances but I decided to give Danby the benefit of the doubt and called in to the customer support. After about 5 minutes of conversation, I was told there wasn't really any troubleshooting steps and to return it to Amazon (which Amazon promptly shipped out a 2nd unit). I'm on my second unit, and the Danby seems to be doing dandy (Alert: pun warning). What I noticed with the second unit seems to have been echoed here in several comments: at some point Danby must have implemented an engineering change and a packaging change. The second unit not only had different packaging (with more padding around the compressor), but the refrigerant lines were tucked in a little better and seemed to be crimped better as well (something that should have keyed me off on the first one). I can only guess that my initial unit may have had a loss of refrigerant at some point. I also noticed this one is slightly louder (not by much) than the first unit as well. Performance wise, the DBC120BLS isn't bad: it's fairly quiet (compared to my full sized french door refrigerator), the seals are good, it looks great, and it seems to get pretty chilly. Granted, it is not the 35 (2C) degrees of my dedicated refrigerator, but mine has gotten down to the low 40s (4-6C) without any adjustment from the factory setting; I may crank it to max to see what happens. I *DO* however wish they had used a cool white LED bulb instead of the generic incandescent though. Either way, it's worth the price I paid for it - initial issues aside.

    Verified Purchase

We received this fridge very fast with Amazon Prime. The fridge itself was very well packaged and in perfect shape apon arrival. After using it for a few days the temp started to act up and it turned into a heat box. I am not sure what happened but it quit working. I called Amazon and spoke to a customer service rep and he was so helpful. Within minutes a replacement order had been made and we received a new fridge a few days later. Amazon has the best customer service and it made the switch very easy. Our 2nd fridge works great. It keeps things chilled, not ice cold but that is how it is suppose to work. It has a nice blue light and is heavy duty. This is a good choice for someone who needs it behind a bar, in the basement or garage. It's sleek and clean looking. I was hesitant to get the second one after the issues we had but I am glad I did. I rated three stars because of the issue with #1. I like to order things once and not have to get replacements.

So far this is an excellent fridge. It keeps the drinks very cold on the coldest setting and does not use a ton of power. It does not take up very much space and allows for more room in your regular fridge for food. The cans stack nicely and it has a significant capacity. I do wish that the shelving had the wires spaced more closely together. This would provide better support for cans and would allow for bottles to be placed upright on the shelves. As is, you need to place bottles on their side or they fall over. I know it wasn't designed for bottles, but this would be a nice improvement to allow for both.

I really wanted a beverage cooler for my porch but was hesitant to have it shipped for fear it would arrive dented or broken. After searching and searching at local stores I was unable to find a product that even came close to the Danby. I am very glad that I didn't settle for the crappy store brands and went with this Danby model. The product was shipped without damage or incident. I've had it plugged in for a full day now and I am very impressed with how it works. My beer is the perfect temperature (I like it very cold) and the unit is not very loud. I also like that you can lock the fridge should you want to keep out children.

The fridge keeps our beer and wine cold enough. One or two degrees colder would be 5-star. The defrost feature is working well so far. Good for a small household |
    Verified Purchase

Overall this meets our needs. We are a 2 person household, live very near a grocery store with fresh veggies and we don't store much in leftovers. It holds all our condiments, eggs, gallon (or 2) milk, 2 liter and a few fresh veggie boxes. Can still fit a pie or minimal leftovers as needed. It really helps to regulate how much packaged food we buy and what we cook for ourselves. I like that a bottle of wine will stand up with a cork partially inserted. I don't much care for the soda can rack. We don't drink canned soda, so it can be wasted space....instead we use it for jelly jars, condiments that aren't too bulky or bagged cheese...whatever we can roll up and fit in those spaces. Pros : - Small - Energy efficient - Holds temp well - Well lit - Roomy interior - Switchable door Cons - Can holder rack is a waste of space.

So far, love it. Not a complaint but will note as others have, not being glass or flat shelves, the cans like to kinda shift on the wires. But no complaints for the cost. Got to be careful how close you put cans to the front, if you bump the fridge at all they like to come forward, and when you open the door might fall out. Minor complaint, and by no means has any impact on how much I like the fridge. Would love another.

Great fridge with a few minor design faults. |
    Verified Purchase

Ordered this unit two months ago and so far it's working out quite well. Love the capacity of this thing as you can store a ton of cans and bottles, and although the rubberized grates don't really hold cans upright that well on their own, it's not that big of a deal so long as there is something else next to them to hold them up. It's an attractive fridge, it looks much nicer than the Chefmate mini-fridge I had before, and it keeps everything at a more even temperature as well. This Danby is a great little fridge, though I do have a few minor issues with it. The one I noticed straight away is that the corners of the metal framing around the door are SHARP. I've scraped my hands and wrists a few times by just grazing them against the corners, so if you have small children around, you'll either need to cushion the corners somehow or just consider a different fridge. Secondly, the rubber accordion magnetic strip that helps seal the door when closed could really use a stronger magnet, or a spring mechanism to ensure the door closes. Far too often myself and guests have closed the door, only to have it either not swing closed fully, or close the door and have it bounce back open due to the weak magnetic strip in the seal. Finally, the sides and top of this unit tend to run pretty hot. You aren't going to burn yourself touching the top or sides, but it's quite warm to the touch, which might be off-putting for some. If you're housing this fridge in an alcove then it won't be a problem, but it's worth noting nonetheless. Overall this Danby is a great little unit - there are some shortsighted flaws in its design, but in my opinion they aren't enough to compromise the overall performance of the fridge.

Junk. Failed soon after installation. Danby refused to honor warranty because on one side I only had 4 inches of the recommended 5 inches of clearance needed all the way around (do not install under a counter!). Fit perfectly into the hotel kitchen island/minibar that I purchased |

I purchased this drink cooler locally so I could go to a real store and look at it up close and in person before buying. It turned out to be absolutely perfect for what I needed. A year ago we purchased a kitchen island that was originally luxury hotel furniture, with a marble top, drawers and a lockable cabinet to store a beverage cooler. So this Danby Beverage Center fit perfectly, although you should proceed with caution if you are considering placing this beverage center inside a cabinet. Our kitchen island was designed specifically to hold a minibar refrigerator and there's ample breathing room as well as large rectangular openings in the back for proper venting. This is definitely a beverage cooler and not a refrigerator. It keeps cans of soda and beer pleasantly cold but not freezing. I will update this review in the future if anything changes.

    Specifically for DCR044A2WDD |

Amazon claims to have over 600 reviews for this, but they don't, because they aren't just for this. You can't tell what model is being reviewed the way they just list them all together, unless we all start identifying the actual product ourselves :-( makes the reviews kinda useless... Amazon should have a way for us to review Amazon! This is a carelessly and marginally engineered item. Yes it works. The ideal temperature of 45 degrees is reached with the thermostat pegged to the right at full cold, so why even have a thermostat? Actually it cycles on and off so the basic unit has plenty of capacity; it seems to be a carelessly designed thermostat. Ideal cold should be set in the middle of the adjustment. The little screw to level the feet on the floor, when screwed totally in, is still taller than the foot on the other side. Once again, why wouldn't it be midway in the adjustment? More carelessness! I solved it by unscrewing and shimming the other front foot. Whoever dreamed up the silly door shelf inserts had no idea what bottles and cans are like. They are narrow with a round bulge in the middle which allows count 'em ONE item of bottle size, then you can squeeze if a few narrow items on each side. However they are flexible, so I just stretch 'em a little. The diagonal beverage holders take up far too much of the available door storage, so if you like cans you are in good shape. Use it for a plastic bottle, you must carefully select which socket you use or it will prop the door open against the wire shelf. This has been variously represented as having "automatic" defrost and a reversible door; it is frost-free simply because the cooling panel at the back operates at a high enough temperature to lose frost as drippings into the drain hole, and the condenser, which in most refrigerators releases heat in separate coils, is embedded in the side panel so that it doubles as a defrost heater. The door is in no way reversible, but since the manual is written for many models (sort of like Amazon reviews) they make a vague reference to reversing the door. There is a little cosmetic fracture in the metal at one corner of the front panel that was touched up with non-matching paint. Finally, reviewers are correct about the contented little gurgling sounds, but they don't bother me.

Doesn't get very cold. This works a cooler not as a fridge. I don't know if I am doing anything wrong but I left the fridge 24 hours before plugging it in for the first time. Then I left it on medium setting for two days. The fridge didn't seem any cooler than room temperature. Then I turned to maximum cool and it only got slightly cooler. The fridge is our garage and we are on the northern west coast so the garage is relatively cool anyways. I haven't measured the temperature setting but If I had to compare it to something it feels like the open cheese coolers in the supermarket. This fridge does not have a freezer section. Our last fridge had a freezer section (that we never used) and that fridge got way colder than this unit. Ultimately I cannot recommend this fridge as it does not get very cold for my liking.

Some reviews indicated the cans don't get cold enough so I cranked it to MAX cold. There are ice crystals in my soda. NICE! I'd say it get's the job done. It's not quiet but not really noticeable either after a minute. It is close to the TV/Family room and in no way is obtrusive. The shelf layout is flexible to set up in a few different ways too so that is nice. One minor issue is if you close the door to hard it will bounce open slightly ajar. I've found it cracked open a few times. I may tilt it back slightly but the unit operates perfectly and as expected.

DAR026A1BBD, 26CF compact fridge DOES get very cold, 32f within an hour (w/prechilled sodas) and not maxed. |
    0

This Danby Designer DAR026A1BDD Compact All Fridge is exactly what we needed. We use it primarily for 12 ounce soda cans, a couple of water bottles and the occasional bottle of Green River. If shelves are placed one way, we can fit 50 cans of soda. Another way, less. Remove a shelf, and something taller will fit. I cleaned it, plugged it in, turned it up to just over the half way mark, then loaded it up with pre-chilled sodas from our main fridge. In less than an hour, it was 32f perfect degrees! (Glad I didn't crank it to a lower temperature setting). Also, we keep the compact fridge on top of a MDF shelf/box that is over 26" high. There is plenty of space for it in front, the sides, 6" behind and 2" above it. I believe that it is key to keep sufficient space around the unit (as stated in the instructions). We'll have to see what happens when the summer turns things hotter in the kitchen. Right now, the weather is nice so the fridge doesn't turn on and off very often. Also, the sound of it running reminds me of a steady hum of crickets in the distance; not unpleasant. For now, I'm keeping the dial setting just next to OFF since the temp is staying at 30f. The only thing that bothered me is that the fridge is packed just as you would pack an enormous appliance. There is a separate piece of cardboard at the bottom, the rest is a cardboard box with flaps at the top, but no bottom. They slipped the box over the fridge, adding a layer of styrofoam at top and bottom, taped the top and the bottom, then affixed a couple of sturdy straps. In our case, the straps were quite loose, as if they had used the straps to lift it, DUMMIES! Illustrations on the box show a team lift, lifting from the bottom. As a result, the fridge was dropped; hard to say when that happened. Whoever dropped it, dropped it on a corner (back and right side) so that a shim would be required to keep the fridge level. Also, there is an arrow printed on the carton alluding to keeping it upright (at all times? I doubt that it stayed that way since UPS set it at our front door on it's side). So far, the fridge is working, but I am keeping an eye on it for now. Luckily, the place I bought it from offers a 100 day return policy (not amazon). Will update sometime in the future. With any luck, this will last as long as our last one (an Avanti)...14 years, 6 months (moved twice).

Nice unit! We have it in our garage and it works great for pop, beer, etc storage. The only critique I have is that you have to be careful when closing it to make sure it actually stays closed. It keeps wanting to pop open. Otherwise, very nice!

    Mixed emotions |
    Verified Purchase

Wanted a fridge without a freezer. Seems to be fairly hard to find these days. Lots of mixed emotions about this fridge. Sort of cheaply built all the way around. No where near the build quality of the fridge it is replacing. 1) No feet to level. Pray your tile is perfectly level. 2) Door sits very low on the hinges. Doesn't look like it rides high enough to get perfect seal, however, don't feel any leaks. Cheap plastic for the hinge supports. Not sure about durability. 3) Very limited shelf adjustment. Can't get space large enough to fit any plastic jugs (1/2 gallon, gallon, etc.) on the shelves. You can squeeze a 1/2 gallon plastic container in one space on the door. No where else. Cardboard milk container will fit in the very front of one shelf (if your bend the top) once you have maxed out the shelf adjustment - which of course reduces the shelf space of the other shelf. 4) Temp is fairly stable. With it set to maximum cool, it holds the temperature at a constant 40 degree F (empty or with food). But that is it. No colder, and has to be on maximum cold setting to accomplish that. Since ideal is 37-40 degrees, it sits at the high end of the range - and requires max setting to do it. Runs a lot. I am sure that will have a negative impact on the life of the fridge. 5) Makes a lot of weird noises. Let it sit for several hours before plugging in (2 hours are recommended per the manual - I went for more). Not super loud, but you can hear it running from a distance - especially all the weird gurgling noises. 6) Support - haven't decided if they really have someone answering the phone, or if the number of calls is overwhelming the staff member working the phone. Tried several times to call their support number. Over 30-40 minute wait each time and never got any one to answer. Think there was a call back option. Problem is don't know when they will call back. I try to call when I know I can actually spend some time if they want me to check anything on the fridge. Sort of pointless getting a call back to troubleshoot if I am away from home. We will see how it holds up over time, but I am not convinced I would have bought knowing what I know now.

Very nice very cold fridge. I turned it into a 2 tap Kegerator. I had to cut the shelves off the door to do so, which was easy. It has room (very snug) for 2 ball lock kegs, the lines, regulator, and 5 lbs co2. If it lasts it will be worth the 5 stars.

Nice design, looks good, stores as expected. The issue is that it doesn't maintain temperature very well or keep the beverages very cold. The locking mechanism is also useless. Works great, keeps a whole assortment of drinks cool for our conference room. The one missing star is because I'm a bit disappointed in the key - it's just a regular Allen key, so not much of a locking device - at least a slight variation or size would have been better. I have owned this for a couple of weeks. 42F is as cold as it will get. If you want it to "be sure to never be short on ice cold beverages", you will be disappointed. It simply does not get cold enough to make drinks taste "ice cold". According to their website, this is expected performance, so it appears to be operating as designed. but 42F in my opinion is just not cold. It is cool…

    Solid buy. |
    Verified Purchase

Item came on time and as described. Shipping was prompt and fast, and item was not damaged in any way upon receipt. So far the beverage center is doing a good job of keeping water bottles cold, and is a nice addition to the office. Esthetically it fits within the office perfectly in the waiting area. The fridge does make a slight hum when it is on, but it's not over bearing. Highly recommended so far.

    Verified Purchase

Exactly what I was looking for. No freezer tying up space when all I need to do is cool drinks. The quick cool knob on the back edge is nice too for when I need to cool down things quicker. Its also fairly quiet, although I can here a slight vibration from the bottles inside. Its hardly noticeable though. I do wish it had height adjustable feet on the bottom, as mine sits on a carpeted surface. This makes the door harder to open.

You can't just swing the door shut like a normal refrigerator door |
    Verified Purchase

The door will not shut right. You have to push the door shut then hold it there and make sure it's closed. You can't just swing the door shut like a normal refrigerator door. This is a big problem when you have company. Also the light inside wouldn't shut off until now because the light bulb finally burnt out. You get what you pay for. I wish I would have spent just a little bit more and sprung for a better quality product.

I like this little fridge |
    Verified Purchase

I like this little fridge. I wish that the shelves had the bars a little closer together though as standing cans upright will cause them to lean to one side. Also, it seems a little sporadic with temperature. Sometimes it can be freezing cold and the next time just cold. It also does not seem like the seal around the door fits super tight, at least in comparison to the mini fridge it replaced. Overall I'm satisfied with it.

I have read alot of bad and good reviews on this topic. I will say it can be a little loud but its in my office and i do not notice it. If i had to sleep in the office now that would be a different issue. Lets hope that does not happen! It keeps soda and water extremely cold. I have put it on max and it froze the soda. I now have it about mid and it is perfect. Really i have no complaints!

    Nice Quiet Refrigerator |
    Verified Purchase

This Danby all Refrigerator is so whisper quiet you can sleep in the same room with it !! The noise factor was very important as it is in a boat and I did not want to hear it at night, or day. The 2.6 is the largest I had room for. It keeps the temperature good, below 40. It arrived in perfect condition. I just love it !! Be aware this model does NOT have a feezer , so it has a little more space !

    Works well and quiet |
    Verified Purchase

Don't yet know how durable it will eventually be. So far so good. It's not noisy, it is capable of getting very cold if you set it to high, and it seems well made. 18 month warranty and you get two extra months by registering online, so that's good. Good compact size. The fact that it has no freezer is a plus -- a freezer is always a hassle and for our needs totally unnecessary. Nice to have more space and no defrosting issues.

Happy with this beverage cooler, just what I wanted, read all of the reviews and took the chance and ordered. I e mailed the company first with some questions, one of the design of the shelves as this was some of the complaints on some reviews, they e mailed me back with the response that the shelves had been corrected so the drinks will stand better. So far I am very happy with my unit, keeps drinks cold and holds a lot of drinks, now I have a lot more space in my fridge!

Bottles have to be carefully arranged or they will tip over |
    Verified Purchase

This is a nice sized cooler, but as many other reviewers have noted the wire shelfs don't work very well with bottles. You can get it to work by arranging them carefully but if you get them off by a bit they will quickly start to fall over. After 12 months of use I have not had any issues, and it has been working very well for my bar refrigerator, though I would like to put in some laser cut plastic to fix the bottle tipping issue.

    Verified Purchase

This is a good product. My only complaint is it is hard to regulate the temp. It has a dial on the back and there are no markings on it to indicate temp. If you turn it up all the way it will freeze you beer and soda. It definitely makes cold drinks. However if the drinks freeze they explode. If you turn it down to much the fridge defrosts and the pan under it fills with water. It works and looks good just hard to set the perfect temp.

    0

I purchased one of these from a local store. Mine is a Danby Designer 4.4. Pros: * No freezer inside. This gives more space for refrigerated items. * light on the inside, just like a big refrigerator * glass shelves * relatively quiet Cons: * only cools to 45 degrees F even on the lowest setting. This is not enough to store milk, meat, or other food items and limits the use to bottled drinks only.

    My garage frig |
    Verified Purchase

I have used the frig in my garage/office for a little over a month now and it has performed OK. It is reasonable quiet and not bothersome but it cools much better on the shelf under the freezer. The freezer doesn't really freeze much except moisture but the small size of the freezer limits what one can put in it anyway. The overall size of the frig was perfect for my needs and I would recommend it but it is not a major cooling device.

    Verified Purchase

Best most awesomest mini fridge ever. Only issue is you need to keep it set on the coldest setting to keep my beer just where I like it. Other than that its perfect. I have it set up to hold two shelves of bottles, the bottom shelf being a little higher for the tall bottles, and the top shelf for cans. I did buy some cheap hard clear plastic to lay on each shelve because the wire shelves never lets things sit right. All in all its still amazing.

    Verified Purchase

When I unpacked the appliance, the first thing I saw is a 3 inch dent in one of the top corners of it. I finshed unpacking and I saw small smashes on the sides as well. The appliance is working and once in its place (a corner in the kitchen) the damage can be hidden but certainly I'm disappointed on the way it arrived. It is working well and that is the only reason I have not returned it (it is a ratehr large device) but I will be keeping an eye on it.

    Love this cold storage!!! |
    0

On the middle shelf I have 29 bottles approximately half of which are the standard slender 12 oz and half are the stubbier, slightly fatter bottles; these are all vertical as well. Lastly, I have six bottles stored on their side in two pyramids on the special top shelf. You lose a little bit of space at the very top so that you can keep the fan clear (the shelf is designed specifically for this purpose) so you can't make use of the ENTIRE interior.

Very attractive but noisier than I hoped it would be. |
    Verified Purchase

The fridge is very attractive. However, it's not nearly as quiet as the other reviews suggested. I have it in my bedroom and it seems to be getting noisier and noisier. It has plenty of ventilation and is not "cranked up" to super cold. I don't know why it's becoming so noisy. The wire shelves need to have a sheet of plexi-glass if you want to put bottles on them without them constantly falling over and creating a very annoying domino effect.

Good beer firdge for the price |
    Verified Purchase

Item arrived with the packaging in good shape, excpet for a rip here or there. Can't blame the manufacturer as this is probably an issue with the carrier. No damage to the item during transit. Keeps the beer cold and looks very stylish in my bar. I agree with the other reviewers that the shelves are not very good for cans, I'll probably add some shelf liners or plate glass as one of the other reviewers mentioned. Otherwise, I really like the product.

    Verified Purchase

Works very well. Keeps our sodas cold. Reversible door and hinge was easy to install. Fairly quiet. May be a little too loud to have sitting next to the bed, but perfect inside the walk-in closet. The sides do get warm, but they are supposed to get warm (that is how this refrigerator exhausts heat). When I measured it, the fridge pulls about 95 watts with the compressor on. The cost to run it during the first month measured at $3.31 (about $0.11 per day).

Keeps beverages nice and chilly. |
    Verified Purchase

This is a great beverage center, but a warning if you're looking for a unit that made more for bottles than cans. This is made more for cans! There are adjustable shelves, but if you want to use bottles, you will have to eliminate two shelves unless you want to store your bottles on their sides. Regardless, it works well and it's slender so it fits into smaller spaces nicer. It's a little taller than your average mini-fridge. We use the top shelf to chill wine.

    Very Noisy!!! |
    Verified Purchase

Very disappointing beverage center. Does not hold bottles well, as shown in the pictures, so if you are buying for adult beverages, don't waste your money. It's very loud when it runs also and to get beverages cold, you have to put it on max, which seems to run all the time. Haven't own it a month, but too expensive to send back. Had to take a rack out in order to fit the bottles and they fall over ! I find the same true for the cans we have in there also. Would not recommend at all.

I ignored all the warnings posted in the reviews that this unit would arrive with damage to the front door. I figured I would gamble that these complaints were isolated and I was purchasing the beverage center for a business not my home. Fantastic fridge! I got this to replace my small beer fridge that I had in our mudroom. It looks so nice that it was approved by my wife to be located in our kitchen. Very nice looking but also great in so many ways. Great size and options for things. I love that the space is all fridge and no small freezer that is a waste for me. Love the light also as my last fridge did not have one. Very heavy and built well. Couldn't be happier. Price is also a huge bonus compared to others.

    Verified Purchase

I am having a bar installed and decided to get a nice fridge to show off some coors light cans and bottles. Some reviews about coldness scared me but there were also plenty saying they had exploded cans. It is a nice looking fridge but I plugged in for 2 days with a glass of water and a thermometer and could not get temp below 42. I don't think danby is good for coolness. My friend bought a danby kegerator and could not get temp below 37. He returned and got a Summitt and it worked great so I got one also. I don't know why they can't just make a compressor to get to below freezing level. Cant cost that much more. Bottom line if you want ice cold beer don't buy this fridge. On the plus side Amazon will be sending UPS to pick up tomorrow no problem. Happy with Amazon unhappy with Danby.

If the fridge is set cold enough and all the areas are nicely chilled, the sodas at the top rear will freeze and explode. Extremely uneven, but workable if you put a bit of styrofoam against the back and don't mind that the shelves aren't designed terribly well for cans despite the fact that the unit's supposed to be built specifically as a beverage cooler. Price point on the higher end and performance of a budget option. I would buy a different brand if I had it all to do over again.

I bought this mini fridge for my dorm life. The cooling system is good, but the noise during the operation of the system is kind of annoying, and this is the only point for this fridge that I complain about. However, if you cannot bear the noise, you can switch off the cooling system during the night, and your stuffs are still cool if you keep the door close for even 6 hours. Just remember to switch it on the next day. Overall, i will recommend this fridge if you don't care much about the noise

This fridge is great and I like that it does not have a freezer section. Not having a freezer section gives you a lot more room. Perfect for my office. The only complaint I have about this fridge is that even on a level floor I can't get the fridge to stop rocking back in forth. The leveling options on the bottom of the fridge simply are not that effective. The fridges looks great and will do the job. Just be prepared to shim or otherwise support one or more of the feet to achieve a balanced fridge.

I just unboxed the fridge and set up up on a shelf. When I got it up there I noticed a large dent on the door under the handle that almost makes the door look warped. It came well packaged (box in a box with Styrofoam and no damage to the box. Also, within minutes of turning it on, both sides felt hot to touch and radiate heat into the room. I also noticed ice forming in the back of the fridge. I haven't even put anything in it yet. I bought an extra warrenty, but I will ask for a return.

This is probably the first review I've ever done, but I felt this purchase warranted it. I saw some rough reviews, but also some people that took a chance and had success. For the price it was worth the risk, for me. I purchased two, and designed a built in shelving for each unit. I followed some tips I read, I left them in position for over 5hrs before plugging in and have had no issues. They came in perfect condition, look fantastic, keep my beers perfectly cold turned on max, and are extremely quiet. I'm very happy with my purchase. Really sets off the man cave.

I've been using a similar sized fridge at work, but one with those completely useless freezers. Eventually, once the ice growth got the point where I couldn't close it, I just got rid of the old one and purchased this fridge; excellent choice. First of all, because there is no freezer, it means that I have more room to put stuff. The drink rack on the side is also an excellent use of space. The temp can be controlled via back dial; I have no idea what setting I have it set at, but it's definitely cold enough. Excellent product.

We read the reviews before purchasing and glad we did not listen to a few negative ones. We have this outside in a pool cabana. We keep it reasonably full, not over stuffed. Everything has worked beautifully and it keeps things as cold as my inside fridge. Love the glass door so you can see in without having to open to see if it needs to be restocked. Also we did change the direction of the door opening. It took about 10 minutes and could not have been easier. Not sure where the negative reviews came from. This is truly a great little fridge even in the heat of the summer!!

Waste of time!! My unit would not get cold enough. I put a thermometer in it and it would not go below 48 degrees regardless of what the temperature knob was set at. That is unacceptable for a refrigerator, who wants a drink that's barely cold to the touch? I called amazon's support and they were wonderful, they replaced it at no cost and it arrived quickly. But I had the same problem!! And it was a brand new thermometer, I tested it in my kitchen's fridge, got a perfect 36 degrees. I ended up having to call the manufacturer for a refund on this crap unit, since the 30 days for amazon's returns had elapsed. Bottom line, go find something else. The great price I got hooked on is not worth the headache.

I have mounted mine into my island, it has anywhere from 6 -12 inches of clearance on 3 of the sides and does not overheat. It's not recommended but has been running just fine without overheating for 2 months, no change in temperatures inside or out. A friend and I who both have this fridge have been searching for LED replacement bulbs for the inside to give it a nice glow all the time since it has the glass door, the stock incandescent looks cheap. Menard's has a few that will fit, but they are 0.9 watts so its just a light glow vs lighting each shelf. Overall very satisfied!!

Amazon is great but the refrigerator doesn't work. I've had had to return two of them as both did not work. Each time, I followed the instructions and let them sit over night before plugging them in and the run all day before putting anything on them. Once I realized each was not cooling, I used a thermometer from my kitchen refrigerator to see how cold each got. Neither got below 45 deg. I rarely heard the compressor run and there was a frequent sound of water dripping in the cooling unit. Amazon has done a great job with the return and replacement but after the second, I am taking a refund.

It works great so far. It came well packaged and timely with prime shipping. No damage. On its coldest setting using a digital thermometer I found it would cool down to 36 degrees, the compressor would then kick back on and cool once it reached a temp of 42-46 degrees. Yes it does have a compressor like is on a dorm fridge and is just as quiet. You can also easily upgrade the light bulb to an led. I used an e12 base led that's works great and is a cool white color. The only place I found an led bright enough and small enough was on a popular auction site shipped from china. The search for the led bulb is the title of my review.

Make sure you research where the repair centers are located before you buy this item. In 3 years the compressor has gone out twice. The nearest repair facility is 3 hours drive from my house in Austin Texas. The first time I had to pay $94 while it was under warranty, this time I am going to just leave it out on the street for someone else to Deal with. I will never ever buy a danby product again. Ever!!!!! From the first day we used this crappy frig it was so loud that we could not even hear the TV in the same room. This is the worst product on the market today. Great beverage fridge |
    Verified Purchase

If you drink beer, this is necessity! I am a fan of microbrews and they took up a ton of space in our fridge. Now I can have my own fridge with what every I want to stock. It holds a ton of cans, bottles, or what ever you need. I only have two complaints. 1. The shelves are very spaced and you will have to figure out how to stock your cans/bottles. They fall over sometimes if you don't stack them properly. 2. Shutting the door needs to be followed through and verified it has been shut. It can stop at the last few inches and stay open all night. It is very reasonably priced, performs well. I would give it 4 or 5 stars if it wasn't for the previous issues.

Very disappointed with this minifridge |
    Verified Purchase

There are two main issues with this minifridge. Firstly the rubber seal around the door does not provide a snug fit. There is clear daylight that you can see right through. This should be airtight to keep the cool air in and warm air out. Second this is meant to be a free standing fridge but on a level surface it rocks from side to side. The manufacturer provides one leveling leg that screws in and out on one corner of the minifridge, what about the other 3 corners, how can one leg provide support. At this price point I should not have to place cardboard under each corner to make it level. I was expecting more after reading all the glowing reports but sorely disappointed with this item.

Great fridge, despite shipping damage. |
    Verified Purchase

I am providing a 4 star rating for this product, as they still have apparently not figured out a way to completely protect it from shipping damage. Upon arrival, the metal hinge door bracket was severely bent upward causing the door to not properly align when closed. The bracket was easy to remove since the door hinges are reversible, so I was able straighten it with a few strokes of my 4lb. mini-sledge. Cheers to them for making a heavy enough bracket that this is what it took, but it's not something that should be necessary. Anyways, that fixed it. Otherwise, I am very happy with this purchase. It is way nicer in build quality than others at the same price point I saw in the big box stores.

Despite the negative reviews of bad packaging and some issues with the fridge itself I went ahead with my order. This thing keeps my brews and cokes super cold! The shelves are adjustable for longnecks but things get kind of wobby because of the wire shelves. I am going to cut some glass to put over the wires figure that will help stablize things. Also I'm planning to wire the light to an external rocker switch so I can turn on lights when the door is closed. Looks really cool with all that brown glass in there. It's a must buy for anyone that needs a good beverage fridge.

    Performed as advertised |
    Verified Purchase

    Needs immediate warranty service |
    Verified Purchase

Very nice looking fridge and keeps 40 deg temp well. Per earlier reviews, the shelving should be redesigned so cans/bottles dont tip over so easy. Grate is just a bit too wide and things tip easily. From day 1 the evaporator fan rattles loudly, shaking the whole unit, every time the compressor turns on (1-2x hr). Only lasts 5-8 sec but still very annoying. Turns out Danby CS says warranty service is on-site but all the warranty providers in my area (Minneapolis)say they wont come out. I need to take it in to a warranty center, will take 3 weeks to fix. Hassle. This in an under counter config, make sure to have adequate space behind it (3" min) for cooling since it vents to the back. Dont want the compressor to overheat. Overall rating...Meh...

Bought this as an early Christmas gift for my husband (and me). He likes beer and I like having more room in my fridge for things other than beer and soda. We took out one of the shelves so we could have more bottles in there so we cut the capacity a bit but we still can fit A LOT of beverages in there. My husband has odd sized bottled plus the standard size bottles and cans. We have had this hooked up for almost a month now and my husband has only needed to restock it once, which should give you some perspective given that it is football season.... I would highly recommend this to any person who wants to rid their refrigerator of a ton of drinks and doesn't want to spend a lot of money or use more electricity on buy a second fridge.

Quiet and Elegant - Perfect for your man cave |
    Verified Purchase

This beverage center looks good, works well, but above all is absolutely SILENT in our cavernous basement game room/ man cave. I had planned on hiding it behind the bar, but it looks so nice I left it out and more accessible. That turned out to be a big hit, since now the "guys" don't have to take their eyes off the bigscreen to fetch another round! I was worried that the hum of the refrigeration unit would be annoying and would echo throughout the space. Frankly, the only way I can tell it's on is by feeling how cold the contents (beer, soda, etc.) are (which is very cold BTW). The clear glass door doesn't even fog up when you open it, which really surprised me. The price was reasonable and it is well worth it. This is one of the best purchases I have made in recent memory.

    Great mini fridge |
    Verified Purchase

Fantastic fridge, fits perfectly in my room and the temperatures are really cold. At the coldest setting liquids will start to freeze. It can hold a whole lot of cans, bottles, containers etc. The price point is outstanding, it really is a steal for a high quality product. This is extremely quiet, I keep it near my computer which itself has quiet fans, and even those can't let me hear it. It's actually silent in this situation. The only problem I have is the reversible door. It came opening from the left side, which happened to be the opposite of what I needed. To swap which way it opens you have to unscrew a total of 10 screws to move everything around, which isn't too hard but can be bothersome. Other than that, I've had no issues. If you need a mini fridge this is the one you want.

Horrid experience. Item not at fault. |
    Verified Purchase

Horrific experience with vendor, as the item box came very damaged, as was the actual item due to poor care by vendor and potentially shipper, as well. The item box was so damaged, it could not be used when returned to vendor. Like many other posters have indicated, the item may be fine but due to the poor care of the vendor and potentially shipper as well, the item was damaged. The beverage center was ultra noisy at times, as it sounded like it was about to break. It began fairly quiet enough and within 2 days, it began screaming at us (very noisy). The door was damaged (dented). The actual shipping box was in bad shape as well but the product box was undeniably horrific (pictures were taken for proof just in case). The vendor also threatened to re-charge my account the full amount of the product, as they could not properly read the UPS tracking system, when in fact they did get their damaged product back within the required time frame (which the UPS tracking showed). Overall, awful experience. Product very poorly cared for by vendor in my opinion. Product itself actually looked fine. I will not use vendor again. Maybe worst vendor i've dealt with in several years.

We are currently between full size refrigerators due to the model we want being out-of-stock everywhere. There is a two-week wait on the model we want. So we picked this up in the meantime. It works well and is meeting our temporary needs. The can holders in the door are a nice feature. There is a 10 degree difference between the bottom shelf and the top shelf. This seems to be a common thing with refrigerators. The bottom shelf is definitely where you want you milk and other items that can spoil. It fits a gallon jug of milk if you remove one of the included shelves. On full blast, this refrigerator gets down to 35 degrees, which is the perfect temperature for a refrigerator...but again, that is on full blast (meaning turned all the way up to its coldest setting). Overall we are happy with this as a temporary solution.

Bargain priced little fridge with a good warranty |
    0

I bought the Haier 1.7 cu ft fridge to replace a thermal cooler I have been using at my office, which only keeps things cool - but not cold. This little unit keeps things cold! I have read of at least one other small fridge that doesn't have a temp control; this one has. And this one has a five year warranty on the refrigeration system in addition to one year on the entire unit; in comparison, the other brands I looked at have just a one year warranty on the whole thing including the refrigeration unit. 1.7 cu ft is pretty small, be sure you understand just how much you can put into a unit that size. I can do fine with it but it's sure no bottomless pit of space. I paid about $65 for mine, plus tax, free shipping, it arrived quickly and in perfect condition. I know I'm going to enjoy having cold drinks in my office at work all the time. Cold, not 'cool'.

    FANTASTIC FRIDGE! |
    Verified Purchase

I read many conflicting reviews on this fridge before deciding to take a chance on it. Either Danby stepped up and corrected many things or I just got lucky and got a really good one. Used this over the fourth of July weekend and couldn't have been happier. Danby suggest not using this outside as it is not designed for that. We put a First Up at the back of the camper, set it up on the cargo carrier where it wasn't in direct sunlight and rain would have to be almost sideways to hit it. Even with the warm temps it kept the beer down to about 35-37 degrees. We refilled twice over the weekend, usually at night or early morning before heading out to the lake for the day. Both times by early evening, you couldn't distinguish between the ones that had been in there and the ones that were re-stock.Considering a second one to keep water and kids drinks in. Should save most of the cost of the fridge in ice savings alone this summer.

Perfect fridge for my beer! |
    Verified Purchase

I searched for a long time for a replacement beer fridge after my old one died on me. I decided on this Danby after reading the mostly positive reviews. So far I am very pleased with this fridge. The shelves are plastic coated and very sturdy. They come out easily and there are more than enough of them. I removed 2 of the shelves so I could stand up 12 oz. bottles. I have 2 shelves that hold 25 bottles each. There is remaining space on the bottom that I use for 20 cans stood up. Some people commented that the wires on the shelves were too far apart making the bottles/cans tip over, but they seem perfect to me. Perhaps the shelves have been improved. The fridge is very nice looking, and it is cool that you can leave the light on inside, but I keep it off. It comes on when I open the door. Not sure about reliability because I have only had it for a week, but so far I am very happy.

    Great beer fridge |
    Verified Purchase

I purchased this fridge for my beer collection, and it works nearly perfectly. The top shelf holds two 64oz growlers, plus sixteen or so 12oz bottles, or a few 22oz ones. The bottom shelf doesn't hold bottles, but takes eighteen or more 16oz cans. The rear half of the middle shelf, slightly annoyingly, sits a bit high and won't accept most 12oz bottles without a bit of force. The front half of it, though, is perfect for 12oz bottles and holds fourteen or so of them. A few more can be wedged in the back if necessary, or some shorter bottles or more cans can be put back there. And of course the door is good for at least 8 cans, plus some 12 or 22oz bottles as well. More importantly, at its lowest (least cool) setting, the fridge maintains a perfect temperature of 45-50 degrees throughout, without the use of any external regulators. In light of that, as well as the sub-$200 price, I would not hesitate to recommend this fridge to anyone looking to keep some beer.

Bought this the 120 bottle beverage center (the one with the glass front) for my husband for our anniversary for his Man Cave - it was a TOTAL HIT. He was so excited and it's a really nice looking beverage center (it deserves better than 'mini-fridge' we aren't in the dorms, after all) I bought a nice Ohio State decal, slapped it on the front, filled it with beer and I'm pretty sure he fell in love with me all over again! As other reviewers have noted, if you're placing this on a carpeted surface, you will need to elevate it a bit so that it's not difficult to open/close the door. We just got 2 18" x 18" tiles (very cheap) at Home Depot and put them underneath. Perfecto. I saw a few reviews about the fridge not getting cold enough and I almost didn't purchase this unit - I have not found that to be the case at all. Actually, when I set the fridge to the coldest setting, I ended up with some beer slushies. So, it does make the beverages very cold. Cheers!

Very Good For Use As A Beer Cellar |
    0

I wound up setting it up last night... Read more

Over priced terribly inefficient refrigerator! |
    Verified Purchase

My original review is below. After doing more research on this unit I found it is not designed to reach a temperature of less than 43 degrees! So, my mistake for assuming via photos and some reviews that this unit would meet my needs. Specifically to keep my beer and sodas icy cold. This is NOT a refrigerator, it is an overpriced storage unit! We bought this beverage cooler to hold our beer and sodas with the hope it would keep the liquids nice and cold. Not only does it not keep beverages cold (We moved everything back to our regular refrigerator) It doesn't even do an adequate job with leftovers! Our mayonnaise spoiled in this unit. We simply use it as storage for items that need to be refrigerated AFTER they are opened. We've tried every adjustment and various placements (We don't live in a hot climate) and still it won't keep anything reasonable cold. To say we're disappointed is a vast understatement. If we could return it we would in a heartbeat. This is a terrible product.. Maybe we could use it as a food warmer? I hope Amazon severs their ties with this company immediately. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002MPLYEW?redirect=true&ref_=cm_cr_ryp_prd_ttl_sol_0

The Danby Beverage Center is a nice looking product. It seems to be a quality product. However, it was defective, upon arrival. The minute we plugged it in it started a loud "rattling" (The User Manual said it would have a "clicking" sound when the condenser cycled on and that was normal.) It kept "rattling" loudly throughout the next few hours as we were following directions to cool it down. After several hours we decided that it must be defective and when we went to unplug it, the condenser was very hot--a safety issue to say the least. Amazon gave us excellent return service! I cannot say enough about how comfortable we feel ordering from Amazon. They definitely stand behind what they sell!

Its like a kitchen cabinet for beer. Not soda - just beer. The advertised picture shows Diet Cokes, Pepsi and Red Bull.. Cats suck..kittens too. A little tip for you inexperienced folks, start your beer drinking from the bottom shelf. It will be easier to grab from the higher shelves as the beers side effects kick in. Another tip: (This is only necessary if beer is stocked) get some of those stickers that old people put on glass doors to keep them from walking face first into it. Good fridge, for the price, of course |
    0

First of all, based on the other reviews here, I got really lucky that mine arrived without damage. The packaging is very bad, only 1/2 inch of styrofoam for a 70lb fridge doesn't seem like the best shipping idea. That being said, I am very pleased with this item. Pros: 1. It's quiet. 2. It looks spectacular. 3. It holds a ton of drinks. I can fit 75 12oz cans of soda and 24 8.4oz cans of red bull in this fridge. That's nearly 100 cans! 4. It locks, I did not know that when I bought it, but it was a nice surprise! Cons: 1. With the way it's packaged there is a good chance of it arriving damaged. 2. The spacing between wires on the racks is way too wide, where some 12oz cans only sit on 1 wire. 3. Do not remove the sticker on the bottom of the door. It leaves a horrible residue that does not come off easily at all. 4. It is taller and heavier than you may expect it to be. Read the dimensions carefully, and it is close to 70lbs. You will need either a dolly or 2 people to move this. The cons are mostly nit picks. This is a very good fridge for the price and I am very happy with the purchase. If not for the packaging this would be 5-stars.

I would easily have expected some sort of rattle |
    0

Typically I don't review items. I thought that I should for this item however since it has outlived the beatings of what I would assume any appliance should not have to go through. My wife bought this for me about 4 years ago to put in our basement. It worked as expected and then one day our basement flooded. I ended up finding this on its side in about a foot and a half of water. After having it sit and dry out and finally getting around to see if it worked after about 6 weeks, I was surprised that it worked as if nothing ever happened. I cleaned it out and it has worked ever since. Perfectly. Since then we have moved twice, once to a temporary rental house and again 10 months later to a new home. At the rental house it was in the garage where it was bumped into on more than a couple occasions by the front of our cars. Still no issues. I was moving it down the stairs into the basement of our new house and on the last step, the hand truck got caught and the fridge flipped over, hit a wall and landed flat on its side. Once I plugged it in, it still works. I would easily have expected some sort of rattle, vibration, something but nope. This things still works. I'm shocked. I highly suggest this mini fridge. Maybe the trick is not to baby it.

    Great Fridge |
    Verified Purchase

I ordered it on Thursday and ended up receiving it on the following Tuesday. Purchased it to be used as a fridge for sodas and water at the office. The fridge was double boxed, it's own box + an outside box and a half inch layer of styrofoam. No damage upon removing it from the box. The door is slightly crooked on the front, but still seals fine, no issues or complaints there. Considering the other reviews say this doesn't get that cold, we cranked it up max and froze a portion of the sodas. We currently are still playing with the knob to get what we want, but it gets quite cold. As others have said, the spacing between the bars on the shelves are a little goofy, so sometimes the sodas tilt over a bit. Some of the space is awkward, so it's difficult to keep stuff organized, since we have 9 or 10 different soda types and water in it. Looks like we're keeping about 80 cans in it now. The light on the inside is essentially useless. It basically only illuminates the very top shelf and the rest is left in the dark. The sides stay warm to the touch, but the rear compressor is hot to the touch. Currently still running great though. If you're looking for something to only put soda/beer/water in, this is the best price point glass door fridge.

Be aware of the Warranty |
    Verified Purchase

The warranty indicates a repair or replace. That is NOT what Danby does. Its a refund, which I am still waiting for. My first Danby lasted almost 14 years in the Las Vegas heat, so when it finally bit the dust, I replaced it with a newer model. Troubles from the start: the door wouldn't stay closed, so figured I would reverse the door opening. Found out the one adjusting leg was improperly installed, I jury rigged the leg to get it level and the door stayed closed (noticed when I did this that insulation on the bottom was exposed and there were dents on the bottom, but the refrigerator worked; about 2 - 3 months later the refrigerator started getting noisy, but it was outside, and then it stopped cooling. This was in month 13 of the warranty, so good news for the 18 month warranty. I called Danby customer service. Used their call-back process since the wait time was extensive. Spoke with an agent who requested proof of purchase, even though I registered the refrigerator online when I originally purchased it. No problem, as I had all the receipts and UPC codes (cut the UPC from the box and attach it to the receipt, for your records). I received an email reply saying that they don't repair or replace they refund the original price. In order for them to refund the price I had to take picture of the refrigerator showing the barcode on it, plus a picture of the barcode destroyed, plus a picture of the power cord cut. Okay, did all that and sent it in to Danby, on June 18, 2015. Received an acknowledgement email. On July 6, 2015, I called Danby to request the status of my refund. They had no record of my email. Forwarded the original email to the person on the telephone (very polite and helpful). She stayed on the line with me to confirm receipt of my email and that the pictures were what they requested. They were, and she said a check would be cut on July 9. Called Danby on July 14, 2015 to request the status of the check. Used the call-back process again. After 3 hours of no call-back, I called Danby again and after 15 minutes spoke with an agent. She told me first I wasn't in the call-back log, and that yes the check was "cut" on July 6th, but it then takes 4 to 6 weeks to go through the approval process and since they were in Canada it might be longer going through the mail. I guess "cutting" a check in Canada means something different than in the USA. So I am still waiting for my check. Oh, the new model is costing me $248.62, versus the original of $193.80. The new model works fine and is quiet, but then my first model lasted 14 years and cost less than $150.

Couldn't have bought anything better! |
    0

I'm a first year college student that loves to drink water and occasionally a ginger ale. No matter the purchase I usually spend a while on looking for the best item that I can buy. My college requires me to keep my fridge at or below 4.5 cubic feet, so I only searched for fridges meeting this criteria. This refrigerator was on of the first ones that I saw but I couldn't just buy it right away so I kept looking to see if there was anything better, in short there wasn't. This not-so-mini fridge (more on that later) couldn't have fit my bill more. The design of the fridge is truly unique with the can holders on the inside door. That was a big selling point for me, I can put any number of drinks into the holders and don't have to cycle through them until I get the one I want like on other fridges where it has the drop down "ramp". It still holds a reasonable amount of drinks while letting me have access to any of them at the same time. The door has two real shelves & one small shelf where you can store something very small. The two bigger shelves can hold a two liter and some bottles of water. The drawer is nice and simple although seems a bit flimsy/cheaply made, but I'm not too concerned about it. The picture on here doesn't show but both of the shelves are adjustable and are hooked to the back of the fridge. When/if you want to adjust one you lift it up and pull out and insert the hooks into one of the many holes in the back of the fridge. It allows for a great deal of flexibility. The exterior of the fridge is sleek and can blend right into any environment. The one thing is that the fridge is pretty big, a little bit bigger than I expected it to be, but I love it. My only gripe is that the temperature adjustment requires you to have a penny or a flat head screw driver, it's that difficult to move. In my opinion you can't go wrong in buying this refrigerator & it seems like it's built to last (I've had it for 4 months now). Thanks for reading my review!

    Verified Purchase

It was great for about a month, then it gradually stopped cooling until it completely stopped. I purchased this on Prime day because it was rather cheap. When I first got it, it would eventually freeze just about everything I put in it, regardless of the thermostat position. The thermostat is on the back of the unit, so if you are going to put it somewhere that you will not be able to easily access the back of the unit, it will be a problem. The can holder was very nice and would provide cold drinks fairly quickly. It had no problem cooling 2 liter bottles that fit nicely in the door. After a few weeks, it stopped freezing everything, and began to cool perfectly. I thought this meant it was working properly, but I believe it had an internal coolant leak. After about a week of perfect cooling, I noticed that it was not cooling anything quite as much as it once did. I tried turning the thermostat to the coolest position, but that did not do much. After another week, it completely stopped cooling. I called Danby, and they told me that it was not worth fixing. They instructed me to take pictures of the unit as it is, then cut the cord and tear off a bar code on the back and send them pictures of that. I did that back on November 3rd and I am still waiting on a refund check as of November 22nd. PROS + The can holder is nice + The door holds 2 liters nicely + Cools great when it cools + Fairly light + Is compressor based, so it actually cools (when it cools) Cons - Thermostat is on the back of the outside of the unit, making it somewhat difficult to get to - Gradually stopped cooling until it became a black box of worthlessness about 1.5 months after I purchased it - "Not worth fixing" - Straight from a Danby Customer representative - I get to stare at a black box of worthlessness with a chopped off cord until Danby gets around to sending me a check

Highly Recommended for Beer Enthusiasts! |
    Verified Purchase

I purchased this beverage center to store my ever-growing beer collection in, and it is perfect for that purpose! I've addressed a few different items below to hopefully help prospective buyers (many of these have been mentioned in other reviews as well) - TEMPERATURE - The beverage center comes with an adjustable temperature knob. I would recommend following the instructions of initially running the unit at max cool temp for 3-4 hours and then turning it back to the 10 o'clock position on the dial. If you leave it there, it should keep the temperature in the mid to upper 40's while not requiring the fan/compressor to run constantly. Ambient temperature may affect this, but I have mine stored in a pretty warm room. This temperature falls within the desired range for most styles of beer. If all of your beer is fizzy and yellow and you prefer to drink it ice cold, then you need to take a step back and rethink your life choices. By the way - this unit does NOT come with any sort of temperature gauge. You should purchase a refrigerator/freezer gauge to accurately monitor it. I went with this model - Taylor Precision Products Digital Refrigerator/Freezer Thermometer NOISE - I have this beverage center sitting next to my couch in my loft / MAN CAVE. I can watch TV quietly at night and the sound from the compressor is NOT excessively loud or annoying. Also keep in mind, as I mentioned above - if you don't run the unit at max cool temperature then that will reduce the amount of time that the fan/compressor are running. INTERIOR LIGHT - Many people have complained about the warm white or YELLOW "old" looking interior light. I agree that it looks bad. Some have replaced it with strings of cool white LED lights. I recommend just replacing the bulb with a cool white LED bulb - one with an E12 size base will fit. I went with this model and it looks great - Rayhoo 2pcs E12 Base LED Bulb 104-SMD LEDs White Light 5 Watt AC 110V Lamps Equivalent to 40W T3 Halogen Track Bulb Replacement LED Bulbs,6000-6500K, 300-320LM CARPET - The door will most likely drag if you put the unit directly on carpet. You should use a piece of tile, wood, or small table to get it up off the ground. Something that is at least 15.5" by 15.5" will cover all of the legs. I used an extra piece of kitchen tile that I had and it works perfectly. SHELVES - You will need to adjust the shelves to fit your needs. In my case, I removed 2 of them and kept 2 in there. I use the bottom (not a shelf) to store bombers and extra-tall bottles, the middle shelf to store regular bottles, and the top shelf to store cans and short bottles.I haven not had a problem with bottles tipping or not sitting properly on the wire shelves, but if you do, you can purchase some mats like these, cut them to fit, and place on top of the shelves where needed - Flexible Chopping Mats 4 Pack

Refrigerator stopped working for no apparent reason, 10 months after purchase. I only used it about 5 times, for 2 weeks at a time, when I had guests or parties. Still going around with Danby to get them to honor their warranty, which I still have 8 months on. Will keep you posted.

    Decent Fridge with Dent |
    Verified Purchase

This fridge was shipped to me double-boxed; however, as others have written, it still showed up with a large dent in the stainless steel portion of the door, which likely means the fridge was dented before it was ever boxed. The fridge does its job and keeps drinks cold, but it already looks "used."

This item broke one month after delivery. The fridge will no longer stay cold. Pros: Looks nice and is reasonably sized. Cons: Unreliable, way too many shelves shaped only for pop cans - and none of them are removable. Don't bother buying unless you want a one month fridge.

I was looking for a simple small fridge to hold drinks, etc for clients at the office, and this on fit the bill because it didn't have a freezer. All the space is dedicated to the refrigerator part (no freezer), and the added bonus of having 12 oz can holders in the door.

Not good for wine storage |
    Verified Purchase

I was hoping to by this for white wine storage since it is supposed to have a temperature range of up to 57 degrees. Turned all the way down it will only reach a maximum of 42.8. That's too cold for white wine long term storage. I've had to buy a $50 external thermostat to bring everything up to the right temp. They need to change their description.

Horrible. Broke after one month. Manufacturer sent someone to fix it and it took 2 months before they told us it was unrepeatable. The manufacturer told us to return it to whoever we bought it from (amazon) and amazon graciously accepted the return but charged is a restocking fee...apparently to restock the broken refrigerator. Total nightmare.

Packaging was good, however there was some scratches the door |
    Verified Purchase

Do Not Buy! Packaging was good, however there was some scratches the door. The door does not provide a proper seal, as I can see opening at the corners due to uneven manufacturing. Furthermore, the door does not close well, you have to guide it to close rather than just swing it close. Not a well made fridge.

Delivered with manufacturers box inside another box for protection. Let the refrigerator settle and sit for proper amount of time per instructions prior to plugging into the electrical socket. It is very cold on medium setting and working great. Holds a case of tall necks on middle shelf. Great beverage fridge.

Great size, and gets very cold. |
    Verified Purchase

I picked this one for the size and design. I considered a full size fridge, but there aren't a lot of options that don't include a freezer, and in those size/price ranges, none of them are frost free. I didn't want to deal with that. I've had the Danby for a couple of months now. I keep it in the basement, so it's in a cooler place, and doesn't have to work so hard. I do like to keep my drinks ice cold, and even when fully loaded, it delivers. And I do not have the temp setting at the coldest. Using it primarily for bottles. Almost all the smaller fridge and beverage coolers show with cans, so it's tough to judge how many bottles it will hold. So I got the larger size. Turns out that was a good idea, since the shelf mounting options are fairly limited, I ended up using only 2 shelves to maximize the placement of bottles. And it holds a LOT of beer bottles. I can fit about 20 lying down on the bottom, in front of the compressor hump, and each shelf is, I think about 7 bottles deep by 6 wide. It's a LOT of room. Gets everything cold pretty quickly and keeps it there. In my random trips to the basement for beer or other things, it is rarely running the compressor, so it seems to be fairly efficient. I do have a couple of nitpicky complaints: The wire shelves do not suit for balancing a full load of bottles, you end up with bottles leaning on other bottles because of the spacing of the wires. It still works, but it could be better. What the heck is up with the top shelf with the hump in the middle? Seems like it's a spacer for the light, but it doesn't seem to make any sense to me at all, I don't use it. If you live in a humid area, like I do, you'll have a LOT of condensation on the glass. When I first turned it on, the front glass was completely covered with a thick layer of water. I wiped it clean/dry a couple of times after it was cooled down to the proper temp. That helped a bit, but the bottom 1/2 to 1/3 is usually wet at all times. Not bad enough that you can't see inside, but maybe it needs better dual-glass insulation or something? Not sure. Overall, I'm very happy with it so far. I can easily fit 10 different 6 packs and a 12 pack or 2 of bottles ice cold.

We have a three person "team" in our office and we got tired of using the 'fridge in the common room (smelly, food stolen, etc). One note, just make sure the door is closed as it is a smaller unit with not the heaviest door.

Junk. Failed soon after installation. Danby refused to honor warranty because on one side I only had 4 inches of the recommended 5 inches of clearance needed all the way around (do not install under a counter!). This was after less than 60 days of use in an Ohio winter where the house never got above 65 degrees yet somehow there was "excessive heat". Will fail, Danby will not repair.

The unit stopped cooling at all after one month. We bought it for our small business, and the warranty does not cover commercial use so that is of no use. 4 Stars for product and -1 star for packaging. Explanation: The box was perfect BUT its a fridge.. Refrigerators are never suppose to be on their sides and usually the packaging will state that... The box just says "LIFT TEAM" which is not that heavy. Usually fridge boxes stated that they should be facing up and never on its side. BUT the product itself.. is amazing.. cant wait till tomorrow to use it. This fridge works great! I've had it for almost a year and no problems. I've had it full to the max and all my beverages stay cold. I do keep it on a higher setting, because I like my liquids ice cold, however, the fridge is keeping up so far. I had no issues with damage during shipping. I recently moved and the fridge still works after being manhandled by the movers. I would say do not use this fridge as a built-in. It needs air to breathe, or it gets too warm on the sides.

This cooler was great when I first got it, but it quit cooling reliably only a month in. I called the manufacturer since it came with a 1-year warranty, but they wouldn't do anything to help me. I wouldn't recommend this cooler due to all the issued I've had with it, plus the hassle of returning such a large item.

Aesthetically pleasing, interior light, Holds a ton of beverages |
    Verified Purchase

This is a very nice looking unit. It is cheap compared to box stores wanting $350 for practically the same beverage center. Nice functional incandescent light inside. Door seems to bounce open if you aren't careful about closing it securely. Compressor is a touch loud, but I think all mini refrigerators in this price range will be. The door is reversible. It holds a ton of drinks. Overall I am pleased with this appliance. Temperature control is on the back. The Danby emblem is a sticker and I peeled it off easily for a cleaner look.

Love my cold soda. This does a great job at a great price. |
    Verified Purchase

Some reviews indicated the cans don't get cold enough so I cranked it to MAX cold. There are ice crystals in my soda. NICE! I'd say it get's the job done. It's not quiet but not really noticeable either after a minute. It is close to the TV/Family room and in no way is obtrusive. The shelf layout is flexible to set up in a few different ways too so that is nice. One minor issue is if you close the door to hard it will bounce open slightly ajar. I've found it cracked open a few times. I may tilt it back slightly but the unit operates perfectly and as expected.

    I'm glad i did |
    Verified Purchase

I was concerned about noise with this unit after reading some of the other reviews. I was also worried that it wouldn't get cold enough to chill beverages properly. I took the chance anyway due to the size and the cost. I'm glad i did. I can hear it but only barely so. The noise was quite a bit less than I though it would be. When we first started using it I noticed that the drinks weren't getting as cold as I would like. This was on the default setting (I left it on this setting for a few days to make sure that it was consistent). After a few days I turned it down and it has been perfect ever since. My one issue is with the metal shelves and placing bottles upright on them. You have to place them just right to make sure they won't tip. Others mentioned the same thing. I would buy one of these again.

    Decent fridge.. |
    Verified Purchase

Use - under counter fridge in an upstairs room - used to store waters and sodas for kids Pros - holds a lot of cans Cons - compressor is kind of loud - perhaps being an under counter fridge the noise is being concentrated on the way out? - you have to close the door with your hand and hold it closed to ensure it stays closed. If you just push it closed the door will bounce back and not stay closed. On several occasions I have found the door slightly ajar. I have another under the counter fridge of a different brand (U-Line) and I can slam the door on that model and it will hold.

    Perfect Beer Fridge |
    Verified Purchase

This little fridge is fantastic. I purchased it for my husband to be his "beer fridge". The adjustable shelves allow him to fit growlers and bombers on the bottom, and accommodate a variety of longneck bottles (horizontally and vertically) on the other shelves. He had to remove one of the shelves completely to work best for his needs. The fridge looks nice enough that I don't mind it being in my dining room. It's also very quiet - my husband was previously using an old fridge from his college dorm days that would make intermittent noises, which got to be quite annoying.

We were looking for a mini refrigerator for our 2nd floor master bathroom and built a cabinet with space to install it. For the price, the refrigerator is functional and meets our needs, however, the 1st one we received was dented from the poor packaging and damaged during shipping. We returned it and received another which was also dented but not as bad so we kept it as we did not want to delay the completion of our master bathroom any further. There is an overall flaw in the shipping packaging which does not protect the item. In addition, the quality must not be great and the door is easily damaged. I guess you get what you pay for as it was a great price!

Great little fridge! Holds approximately 113 cans of b... I mean soda. The lock comes in handy for when my brother is trying to raid my stash. Only issue is I thought this had an LED light strip on the perimeter like in the pictures. Typically on the main product page one would expect to see pics of what you are actually getting. I was pretty excited about the lights, and much to my dismay when it arrived it did not have them. The equipped light at the top lets off a color similar to a bug light which is kind of a turn off. All in all it is performing well, doesn't generate a lot of noise, but I had to elevate the fridge because it will drag and catch on carpet.

    A lukewarm 47 degrees. |
    Verified Purchase

What a disappointing purchase! Called Danby before I bought the fridge from Amazon to see how cold I could expect this all fridge compact refrigerator would get. The rep stated the temp would get down to 32 degrees. Not so. Checked it with a thermometer and it only got down to 47 degrees - even while the fridge was completely empty. So I sent it back (which, by the way, was not an easy task). With hope that it was a lemon, I ordered another one. What an especially disappointing purchase! Brief version, 47 degrees. Unfortunately, I let the Amazon return window lapse and had to work out something with Danby. It was a customer service nightmare, even to the point that one rep point blank lied by stating that my refund check was in the mail and he meant it literally. Six reps (most rude) and eight weeks later, I finally got my refund check, at least the amount they considered allowable. I'll let you know how the third one works out ... oh, I'm sorry, two Danby duds were sufficient. Thus, I do not recommend buying this lukewarm storage device.

Was looking at much more expensive models but I'm so glad I got this. Have used it for 5 months now and it works great. We keep it just colder than the medium cold setting. Plenty quiet for use in our kitchen, and not at all disturbing during dinners even though it is only a few feet from the kitchen table. I haven't noticed any problems with the light, which some others have complained about. Only item to be aware of is that the thermostat is on the back of the unit on the top edge (e.g. you have to look straight down at the top of the unit to see and change the temp). This works fine for us, but it would be bad if you planned to put this under any counter because you'd have to slide it out any time you wanted to change the temp.

Nice fridge, but like the others - damaged |
    Verified Purchase

I was looking for a beverage fridge to replace the refrigerator we had in our training room. From the reviews it appeared the fridge kept the beverages cool, which apparently many of the glass door beverage coolers have a difficult time doing. The only problem seemed to be that the units would come in damaged. Sure enough I got mine today and it's got a nice dent in the rear corner. The unit really is packaged poorly. There's nothing but thin sheets of styrafoam between the box and the fridge protecting it from damage, plus the corners of the box are not reinforced, so if the corners happened to run into anything while at the warehouse or while it's being shipped, you're almost guaranteed to get a damaged unit. If you were to ask me, the damage appears to be something that happened at the warehouse and not a function of the shipping. The packaging was very beat up when it got to my door - the kind of wear that a unit doesn't get from just being put on a truck and sent to you. The beverage cooler isn't for my house and the dent is in the rear so it's really not an eye sore or anything so I'm just keeping the unit, which I'm sure might be the intention of the manufacturer - send out busted units and hope the consumer doesn't return it. The unit itself is attractive and looks nice and from what I can tell works well to keep the beverages cool. It is a bit louder than I thought it should be, but it's sitting in a training room and not an office or living room so it's not a bother. Pros: - keeps beverages cool - looks Cons: - Packaging allows for damage - a little loud for a small office or den

Very quiet. Had a 1,200.00 Beverage Aire frig that was 4 times noisier. The door will drag when opened, but takes 4 minutes to remedy. Slide the door up and off the bottom axel pin(after removing the top axel pin, of course) and add two more washers(spacers).Perfect! Yes, you will have to make a trip to Lowes to get the right size washers. The directions unfortunately don't address this so many ding dongs have posted that you have to put something under the unit to make it higher. Unit gets plenty cold. Mine is set just past half way. Can't say how long it will last. Hope to get 5 years out of it. Seems well made. Looks good. Save yourself the time of internet shopping; I spent 4 hours doing that for you-- this is the best/value compact, glass door fridge for HOME use.

Decent overall but door doesn't close tightly |
    Verified Purchase

The fridge itself keeps beverages pretty cold, the light is helpful, and the shelves are fairly adjustable (tho I wish they had a few more options) but there are two things that I dislike. First, the door doesn't stay closed unless it is closed very slowly and kind of held at the point of contact. In other words, if you tap it from open, you can't expect that the door will shut and remain shut. It will often bounce and remain open...even from a fairly gentle tap. A lot of water accumulates in a basin on the back of the fridge. So much water that it has spilled over and left a large puddle of water under the fridge on several occasions. The heat the fridge produces is supposed to evaporate the water but that is not always the case. It's possible that this happens when the door is left open and the fridge is working overtime but I've noticed pools of water even when the door is shut.

Despite all the one star reviews... |
    Verified Purchase

I was skeptical about buying this after all the 1 star reviews I was reading (I usually start by looking at what the one star reviews are) but I bough it anyway because we needed a beer fridge. We let it rest for a few hours and then plugged it in, it got really hot at the beginning but for those of you who own mini-fridges you should know this is normal when you first turn it on or when you keep the door open for too long. The fridge is not extremely loud but it is not entirely quiet - as any normal mini fridge is, it will make noises here and there when temp drops. Either way, it keeps our beers nice and cold, it has a lock at the bottom which is great for those of you who have children and don't want them getting into your stash. It's practical and it looks great, our fridge came with no dents, no scratches no issues whatsoever. LOVE it so far!

    Nice Beverage Cooler |
    Verified Purchase

Pros: -Looks great, definitely a nice way to display your beverages. I have received several compliments on it already. -Keeps beer bottles, water bottles and soda cans nice and cold. -Boxed very well by Danby for shipping. -Not too loud. Cons: -The racks are a little bit of a headache, as sometimes the beverages will fall over. -The lighting is a little dull for my liking. -The locks is just a hex key and even when locked can still be opened about an inch or so. So if you have toddler like I do, they can open it a bit and let the cold air out causing the fridge to continue to run hence wasting energy and money. I have to say that I am happy with the fridge so far. My drinks stay cold and the fridge looks great in my living room. All of the cons that I listed can be fixed by DIY. I will probably just install a child lock for the fridge and not bother using the hex key that way the fridge can't be opened at all and it will be easier to lock and unlock.

    Better than expected |
    0

So far, I am very pleased with this beverage center refrigerator. I think the company listened to some of the complaints and concerns of previous buyers and made some improvements to this model. For instance, our unit does have leveling feet in the front. The owner's manual does explain how to turn on the light so it stays on with the door closed. (Unfortunately, the light bulb is still incandescent, not LED. That would be a nice improvement but would probably add to the price.) The wire shelves really aren't too bad. After reading some of the reviews here, I was planning on putting some shelf liners in or cutting some pieces of plate glass to fit on them to keep the drink cans upright. But again, I believe the company redesigned the shelves, adding more wires to them because we haven't had too many issues with cans tipping over. In terms of performance, this unit is very quite and cools quickly. No clicking sounds as others have reported. I put a refrigerator thermometer in it so... Read more

Two minor frustrations, but ok in the long run |
    Verified Purchase

This refrigerator serves its purpose as a good discount beverage center for our basement, however I was somewhat disappointed to see that the adjustable footers on the bottom are only on one (one?!?) front leg. For some reason, you're only able to increase the height on one side in order to level it, which makes it somewhat difficult to open and close on anything less than a completely flat, non-carpeted surface. At first it seemed like they put the wrong foot on the front right side, however when I called Danby they explained to me that it was intended to be manufactured that way. If that's the case, then why is the styrofoam for the bottom clearly fitted for two adjustable front feet? In addition, the metal shelves are a pain to set anything on (ie, beer bottles). Everything wants to fall over, since the metal wires are juuuuust a tad too far apart. Again, it is what it is, and at the price we got it for, I guess beggers can't be choosers. Next time I might just spend the extra cash to get something that's a little higher quality.

4.4CF Steel - Excellent quality, very flexible. Beware of misleading Amazon photos. |
    Verified Purchase

We wanted a small refrigerator for beer and wine, and have had very good luck with past Danby products. The Amazon product page for this model is a bit confusing as the picture with the door open shows slots for the shelves, and then below it talks about a different model, the DAR044A4WDD showing shelves that snap into rear tracks! In reality, it is the 044A5 that has the tracks and the 044A4 with the slots. If you don't mind the slots, the 044A4 is available for $100 less at Costco and is otherwise identical, but my wife was adamant she wanted the tracks. Setting up the refrigerator was pretty easy - I did choose to reverse the door swing and had difficulty following the tiny diagram in the manual, but I got it done. There is one leveling leg which is really inadequate - I found I needed a shim under another leg. The flexibility of the shelves is really quite nice, but the door bins are a bit of a puzzle, as one of them leaves almost no room to put anything in. I did like the can storage on the door. The Danby holds its temperature steady, which is good, though as is often the case things toward the bottom get colder.

Did not keep beverages cold enough even at the coldest temperature. Glass door acts as a dehumidifier and water drips down door to floor. Distance between wires on rack too big so things tend to tip over. NOT made for bottles. Would not buy it again.

Loved this fridge and used it from October 2014 to now (December 2015). Now the fan won't run, though all the lights and everything are on in it, so it won't get my drinks cold anymore. 12 month warranty is out of date by about a month and a half, of course.

Don't Buy Unless You Like Regret! |
    Verified Purchase

!!!BUYER BEWARE!!! I should have listened to the reviews before I purchased this, but I assumed it was just isolated issues. I regret my choice and waste of $200 now. Where to start... As others have mentioned, a lot of dents and scratches on the unit. I can get over that, not a big deal as long as it still does what it does. The freezer door hinge is bent from horizontal to vertical, and the pin that comes from the hinge to the door itself (suppose to be vertical) is bent diagonal and has the hole itself messed up so I couldn't simply take it apart & fix it myself (which I shouldn't have to do on a new product anyways). Again, I could have gotten past that too, I'm an easy going person. The straw on the camels back is when I turn it around and all of the mechanical parts in the back were bent, busted open, hanging off instead of being mounted, power cord connectors bent & about to snap off and all the while a big sticker suggesting to be careful because it can cause a fire or explode... ... ... ... ... Buy this if you want to take a gamble and potentially waste your money instead of going with a brand you can actually trust to provide you with quality products. I'll admit I'm really mad right now, as this just happened, but to give them credit, the fridge unit itself is a lot bigger than I was expecting and if they didn't have Bam Bam from the Flintstones putting these units together, it would have been great product I think. Just realized Amazon lets you post pictures on the reviews, so I'll update this when I get back home and you can see exactly what I mean.

Great fridge... when it wasn't rattling. |
    Verified Purchase

While I wanted to love this fridge, I just can't. Despite some of the negative reviews, I ordered this fridge as a supplement to our main fridge so I'd have room for my beer. When it first arrived, the box was damaged slightly, but nothing seems to have happened to the fridge itself. It worked fine for a little bit, but then it started making this awful, loud rattling/banging sound when the fan kicked on--which is quite often. Sometimes it would go for a couple of seconds and stop on its own, but other times I would have to get out of bed in the middle of the night and smack it to get it to stop. I complained to Danby customer service and after a lot of back and forth, they finally sent a repairman out to give us a diagnosis. "Bad compressor" he said... and he advised that Danby send us a new one because it would cost them more to pay him for parts and labor than it would to send a new one. So, that's what we relayed to Danby. They agreed and sent a new one out. The replacement fridge came in a box that had a whole chunk of the corner taken out, but surprisingly no damage to the fridge. I had high hopes for this, but when we plugged it was very loud. So loud that my wife could hear it running in our living room... with the TV on. Not a rattling noise, just a loud fan I guess. Unacceptable. After all this, we asked Danby for our money back which was sent promptly. Now we have to just get the two fridges out of our house. Overall, the look/design of the fridge was great, but the aesthetics did not even come close to outweighing the problems and issues I encountered with this product. Not worth the headaches. Bottom line: look elsewhere for a beverage/beer fridge.

Still not sure, plus shipping damage that WAS corrected |
    Verified Purchase

Ok, so I bought this unit at a GREAT price on Amazon.com. I guess it must have been on sale, but I didn't notice until a few days after I ordered how good of a price I really got. I was kind of afraid to order, as there are a lot of reviews on here that says they had shipping damage. Well, I decided to go for it, and guess what.....I too had shipping damage. The top left corner of the door and the unit was bashed in. The unit damage I didn't care too much about, as it is under my bar and you can't see it, but the door was a huge eye sore. I called Amazon about this, and recieved great customer service. They gave me the number to Danby and said if there is anything owed, just to let them (Amazon) know and they would cover any costs. I called Danby, and called Danby, and called Danby, and left messages. The phone was always busy, or it was after hours. Finally I left another message and a guy called me back. This took about 4 days of calling. Anyway, at first they said that they do not ship parts or doors to consumers, but then he talked to his manager, and agreed to ship a new door to me. Door arrived pretty promptly, so thanks to Danby for that. It also did not have the Danby sticker or the warning stickers on it....so thanks for that as well....it looks better! Door was easy to install, and they didn't ask for the old door back. Cool. Now my only other issue with it, is it seems to run constantly. At first I had it turned to MAX, and it was cold enough, but ran all the time, I tried a medium setting, and now it's just barely cold enough, but still seems to run all the time. Is this normal? Also, the sides stay very warm. It is a good looking unit.

It's a lovely little fridge/freezer combo. Too bad it doesn't work. It arrived on Weds, freezer compartment quickly cooled down. Come in on Thursday morning. Freezer compartment is room temp. Nicely shipped, attractive, odd shelves and a little lite on the cooling. |
    Verified Purchase

This fridge came shipped in an outer carton with styrofoam lining with a retail box inside - unit arrived in perfect condition. I placed a fridge thermometer in the front center shelf and get reading that vary from 40° - 45° this is with the unit to the maximum cooling level. The unit is well ventilated at ½ capacity and out of direct sunlight - early March in Minnesota with an average house temperature of 65° and low humidity (dry winter air). What concerns me is when it starts to get hot outside and the temp in the house rises will this lil fridge keep up and still be able to keep the contents cool at below 45° (although I would prefer 35° - 38°). I am afraid it will not keep it at 45°....

Got this for my husband for his birthday to be used as a beer fridge. It keeps the beer at a good temp (many small fridges like this are meant for wine and do not cool properly for beer) and looks nice too. The light can be turned off if you don't want a blue glow coming from it at all times, which is nice. It also holds more than a mini-fridge since it doesn't have a freezer or that random shelf at the bottom.

Good value, packaging attracts damage |
    Verified Purchase

I bought two of these directly from Amazon for my home bar. Both arrived with damage. Both have a small dent on the left side, nearly in the same location. One was seriously dented in the door handle area, on the chrome. The other has a broken door light switch. One was shipped by UPS, the other by FedEx. This was caused by substandard packaging .. otherwise, the fridges are nice and do a great job keeping things cold. Sides get very warm as per other reviews. Updated: After 2 years and 3 mos., one of the units has died. The compressor just makes a click-click noise every few seconds. At $200 shipped, it's probably not worth repairing as it would cost far more to do so than I would pay for a new unit. Subsequent thoughts about the cooling - I was able to get it to cool to ~42F with it placed beneath the counter in a nook (not much room for airflow) and the dial cranked almost to max. It's fine for most beverages but if you're looking to have ICE COLD BEER you may want a different product.

    Verified Purchase

I am a professional appliance serviceman and I get a kick out of some of the reviews about this product. It is a low priced bar or garage refer. Not designed to freeze stuff or for long term storage. I just received it for the garage and it arrived in perfect condition. Double boxed with a foam lining. Not a mark on it. Let it sit for 2 hours, plugged it in and does just what it should. 36* will keep beer and pop the perfect temp. Very nice unit with glass shelves, door storage and a small freezer if you want to make ice cubes. I would highly recommend this for a bar, bedroom or garage. Is very quiet, I have to put my ear to the side to hear it run!

We bought it to store bottled water - not perfect |
    Verified Purchase

We're not big soda or canned beer drinkers - instead we bought this to have cold bottled water and beer on hand. For storing bottles, this fridge is not perfect. While the racks can be adjusted to move between slots on the interior walls of the fridge, the location of the slots aren't spaced correctly to maximize bottle storage - too bad - just a little more design work and it could probably accomodate both bottles and cans well. As is, we could fit ony about 48 bottles upright and another 12 or so sideways. Danby designers - are you reading these posts? They must have fixed the packaging problems - ours arrived with 2 layers of 1/4" stirofoam on all sides - no damage.

if you want a small fridge this one is wonderful. If you want a dedicated beverage cooler, I suggest you keep looking. |

This fridge works perfectly for me. I have it elevated on an old side table for easy access. It is quiet when running and chills well. The small size is a plus because food does not accumulate and go bad and it is a snap to clean. As a beverage cooler it definitely leaves a lot to be desired. It does not store wine bottles or tall beer cans well. The can rack on the door works perfectly for standard 12 oz cans. The freezer compartment is very small but powerful. It is no problem for me but would annoy someone who makes only occasional trips to buy in bulk or needs tons of ice cubes. It works well for one or 2 people. For a weekend cabin or dorm room it would be great. Energy star rating is a plus!

The unit stop working less than 1 year. The condensation pan is overflowing. We put this unit on our third floor, when the condensation pan is overflowing, the water dripped through the 2nd floor causing significant damage to the house (have to remove the sheet rock to prevent the mold). Their warranty is pretty much non-existance. By the time you pay for the shipping back and forward, you can get yourself a brand new beverage center. You got what you pay for. Not sure why this product receive 4 stars and best seller, unless all the reviews are very recent. It's great for the first 6 months, then the compressor started to run often and there're ice near the fan. After that the condensation play overflowed.

Okay, i wrote a review before, & now im writing another. I had mine for about a month & now its started to let off a burning/gas smell. When your in a room for so long, you get used to the smell so sometimes you don't notice but I'm pregnant & I noticed immediately. After my boyfriend left the room for about 5 minutes & came back, he noticed it too. I had to empty my fridge & unplug it. Can anyone give me answers? I don't want that fridge to just go to waste. AMAZING. I order it on the 10th and received it on the 14th and that's with free shipping. :) The fridge cooled within an hour and it's very quiet. And its automatic defrosting. ???? Refurbished Fridge!!! |
    0

Several problems with the fridge my first is that the grated shelves make it so drinks that sit on the are unstable and fall over, which is fixable by buying clear plastic and placing it over the original shelves, but shouldn't have to be fixed at all. Second mine broke within the week I plugged it in and it worked fine around the second or third day it just stopped working. Also the fridge seems to be leaning forward a bit any sort of vibration makes the drink slide towards the door, and the door also seems to not seal properly you can't just swing it closed you have to push it closed and make sure its completely sealed. Finally they sent out refurbished model, not new REFURBISHED the back of mine was rusty and just covered with a half***ed paint job without even telling me about it I can even see the remains of the old model sticker!! I'm returning it for a new one and will update my review once I receive it.

    Verified Purchase

This is the second unit of this model I've purchased. I was very happy with the first for several years but sold it after a move. I bought it again for a new office. Unfortunately, it emits more noise, more frequently and more annoyingly than the first. In addition to the usual hum when it's cooling, this one also emits a constant cycle of what their customer service rep called a "gurgling sound." I'd compare it to the sound of the bubbles when a diver is recording sound underwater, or to a loud aqaurium sitting close by. According to customer service this is something new, and it's related to a new refrigerant they began using recently (my purchase was January 21, 2015.) So, it's not a defect, as such, but something that will happen with every unit they sell. I can't live with that noise in my ear nonstop two feet behind my desk. If you can place it a good distance away from where you work or regularly sit, it'll be fine. In terms of features and cooling it's a fine product--but the noise may be a big deal for you, as it is for me, if it has to be placed close to you while working.

I was too dazzled by the five stars and looked over an important review! First ten minutes it looked nice and then it started making its "clicking noise" for about one minute. It repeats every ten to fifteen minutes and drove us crazy. I was sure that the fan should be broken but then the instruction says "the clicking noise" is normal, which means the manufacture is well aware of the annoying symptom. I just dump it back in the box and am looking forward to seeing UPS pick up truck.

    Exactly what i needed! |
    Verified Purchase

TL;DR: I received my fridge with some dents on it, but besides that it works perfectly as expected! Initial impressions: After looking around for a little bit for the perfect little fridge to keep my drinks cool, i finally pulled the trigger and bought this Danby DBC120BLS Beverage Center. Originally I was looking for something that was a little smaller, but after seeing that great reviews and what you got for the price, I was sold. First off, I have had this fridge for a couple of weeks now and I can say that it has served its purpose pretty well so far! It has only one job and that is to keep my drinks cool in my office. It is working perfectly. Shipping: I did not realize the weight nor size of this fridge until it arrived on my front porch. The shipping was pretty quick thanks to Amazon Prime. There was a slight issue during the shipping process however. The fridge comes double boxed, there is the box that it is shipped in and the actual fridge box itself. Upon receiving the fridge, both boxes appeared to be in mint condition. After opening the box and removing the fridge everything looked to be great – upon further inspection there appeared to be a small but substantial dent on the left side of the fridge. I started thinking, what the heck am I going to do? Ship this back to Amazon? Heck no. I had already cut open both boxes. I contacted Amazon and asked what I should do, I was provided the option for a replacement or a full refund. After a little bit of thinking, I just settled on keeping it, dents and all. I am not sure whose fault it is, but I do wish UPS and or Amazon would be a little more careful next time. (Note: I did not base my review on the fact that the item I received was slightly damaged upon receiving it. I based my review only on the item itself.) Pros and Cons: I really like the overall design of the fridge itself, the stainless steel body and glass window on the front is really appealing. The built in lock is also a nice touch, it works but not as well as I hoped. (More on that later) I do have a couple of gripes about some of its design flaws. I wish that maybe the light inside was a tad brighter or something. It does not make that much of a difference but I do wish it were a little brighter though. Another thing would be the shelves; I wish there were more adjustment options with the shelves. The last thing that slightly annoyed me was the lock mechanism. I am not sure if it is maybe a defect or something, but the lock does not fully secure the door when engaged. The door is locked when you insert and turn the key, though you can still open it, just not fully. Overall: Overall all I can say is that the fridge is perfect, minus its small design and cosmetic flaws. It keeps a good selection of my drinks nice and cool while looking sleek and modern.

Fridge that looks good and keeps the drinks cold |

Fridge doesn't open well on normal carpet so a tile or something underneath is helpful. The fridge came in perfect condition. No dents or any damage like some of the other reviews say. I'm sure it is possible due to the fact that it is quite a heavy product. I don't like the yellow light up top. I'm going to look into changing it out with a more natural whiter light. Will update when I get to it. Overall though, very happy with purchase. Drinks are colder than I expected. I bought this fridge for 212. I know Wal-Mart had it for 199 but this came out cheaper since I didn't have to pay tax. Also, bought square-trade warranty. I didn't want to take a chance on it since my last mini-fridge broke after 2 years.

Nice to look at, lacks in performance |
    0

First and foremost realize this is a BEVERAGE CENTER and not a refrigerator. This is exactly what the company told me when I called about the poor cooling of the unit. I purchased this to be used as a beer fridge and have been severely disappointed in it as it can only cool beer down to 48-50 degrees. According to customer service at Danby the maximum range of cooling for this unit is 46-57 degrees so if you don't mind marginally cold beers or drinks go ahead but otherwise stay away.

Great Beverage Fridge! But why did they put shelves with such wide grates!?!? That cost a star! |
    Verified Purchase

I just received this the other day, so I can't address any concerns other reviewers had as to longevity. Right now its a few days old. I was excited to get this as a replacement fridge for our bedroom. We had a small, dorm style fridge before that had a useless freezer that just took up space. It finally gave out on us so I went searching for a replacement. We use the fridge upstairs for drinks only, so I came across this one and liked the style and design. I like being able to look at the items we have without having to open the fridge - thus I can quickly glance and determine if I need to bring more sodas, gatorade or water. It looks great, its a pretty good size too. A little bigger than I imagined but not like I measured it out before purchasing. So far I'm really enjoying this fridge. There were other reviews that addressed concerns of not being cold enough. I guess this is subjective. My main fridge in our kitchen is set to 38 degrees and stays there. This fridge doesn't quite get that cold. I have it set to the "Max" coldness and it is between 42-45 degrees (I stuck a fridge thermometer in there to check this). For me, this is plenty cold and I do enjoy my beverages cold. I can't drink sodas barely cold, so the fridge gets cold enough in my opinion, although I do wish I didn't have to set it on max to get to this temperature, which means no more wiggle room if I wanted to get it colder. Also, a tip - if you are putting this on carpet you WILL need to place the fridge on something solid - like a tile or block of some sort. The door will drag. We have very short berber carpet and the door was dragging. For now, I've simply put little blocks under the feet to give it some lift. The reason the fridge didn't get 5 stars, and this is extremely annoying for a fridge dedicated to drinks and called a "Beverage Center" is the grates on the shelves it comes with. They are too wide! This means that drinks are near impossible to balance! Normal soda cans and 16 ounce bottles of water will LEAN and sort of tip unless you can stuff a bunch of them in there to push against one another. This is a very annoying problem. Almost earned it a 3 star review because of this BUT I am going to contact Danby to see if they can send out shelves with a narrower grate. I don't get why the heck they used a big gap grate for something dedicated to drinks. I promise, you'll spend a lot of time trying to balance them just right so they don't lean or tip. I'll update this review with what the company says. If they don't make a better shelf I may lower the review to 3 stars because to me, this is a huge oversight. I also wish the legs would extend a little further to make it stand better on carpet but that's easily rectified and probably a better idea to put it on something in event of leakage. Aside from drinks tipping and leaning, this is a great fridge. I am enjoying it. I love being able to store big quantities of drink in here. We have actually freed up a lot of space from our main fridge in the kitchen (I drink a ton of soda and bottled water). I can now keep several 12 packs of various drinks without having to take up all the space in our main fridge. I did buy the extended warranty on this b/c of what I've read in the reviews. I'm really hoping this doesn't break down in a few months like some people have complained. If so, I'll update my review. All in all, this is a great fridge for your home or game room. Its a tad on the large side for the bedroom (we are going to move to the our bedroom closet soon) but its so far been worth it. I like the style, I like the fact that its dedicated to drinks. If they'd just put in better grates this would be a 5 star review ---------REVIEW UPDATE-------------- Unfortunately I had to downgrade the fridge by another star because of the shelving grate spacing. I contacted Danby customer service and said that unfortunately they don't make any other shelves for this fridge that have narrow grates. If they would have even sold me the right shelves I would have left the review rating as is. If they gave me the shelves it'd be a 5 star review. I really, really like this fridge but if you plan on using it for 12 ounce soda cans or water bottles, you will be frustrated by the spacing of the grates on the shelves. It'll drive you mad trying to balance the cans. I guess you could lay them down but I don't want to do that, I'd like to use the fridge as its pictured and as it should be able to support. Danby did say they would pass my comments on to their product team, so we'll see if they come up with a better solution in future iterations of this product. Would I still buy this fridge? Yeah, I probably would. I can put up with this minor frustration but I still can't figure out why the heck they didn't think about the spacing on the grates more for cans - which is what almost everyone will use this fridge for.

I bought this fridge 3 years ago (not from Amazon) and it worked ok up until a couple of days ago when I went to grab a beer only to find the inside temperature a balmy 68 degrees. Th fan in the unit was running but it was no longer cooling. I am assuming that the compressor failed. So, if you are prepared to buy a new fridge every few years then this one is fine. If you are looking for something with some longevity I suggest you look elsewhere. Danby only offers a 1 year warranty so I guess I am out of luck and will have to buy something new. I am going to look to Costco so I will be able to return it even a few years down the road. I am quite disappointed because the unit fit perfectly in the space I had and it worked great for the first 3 years. However, I don't think it is unreasonable to expect an appliance like this to last more than 3 years.

    Excellent little fridge |

Was looking for something to hold beers and wine and this fridge is great. We don't have "refined" enough taste to know if something is exactly at the right temperature so we didn't need a more expensive fridge (maybe someday!). The adjustable (removable) shelves make it easy to set this up the way you would like it. It looks nice, keeps our drinks cold and is $200 cheaper then the other one we were looking at. Very happy with this purchase.

    Danby beverage cooler |
    Verified Purchase

Unit arrived undamaged and worked right out of the box. Door was assembled a bit crooked and overall quality is mediocre but looks good from a distance. Have had it about 5 weeks now and it is doing its job- drinks stay sufficiently cold, good capacity, internal fan helps a lot (main reason I bought it) and is quiet enough in my family room adjacent to my home theater setup. Stopped working once for some unknown reason (maybe got a bit hot as I have it installed in a tight cabinet space- IFU clearly says it is designed to be free-standing) but after unplugging and letting it sit for 30 mins, it started up again and has been fine ever since. I check the external cabinet temp regularly and while it does get quite warm to the touch, it seems to be okay installed as is. A good idea is to keep it out first time it cools down your drinks (it will work quite hard doing this), then when the compressor cycles off (ie- it has reached its set temp), you can push it back in. Overall it seems to be a good deal for the price.

No more defrosting the solid block of ice freezer section! |
    Verified Purchase

You can buy a combo unit instead, btut I wouldn't. Get this and a similar (or smaller/larger) freezer. Why? I've been through a couple of mini combo's and am here for the same reason as you: 1) The mini fridge super mini freezer section sucks. The thing on top/bottom stays half frozen, but HagenDaaz melts. And after a while, it's iced completely and the milk seems suspicious warm. So you have to defrost it. Are you going to move the whole thing out where it can defrost properly and toss the other stuff? No, you are not. You are going to give it twenty minutes, get impatient as it drips and you think of wasting a Saturday on this and then you get the butter knife. A few blows later, and you're thinking "Last time was a fluke, this time I'm doing it right!" You are thrilled with the great big chunks of ice coming out, that you will NOT have to wait on and the Saturday afternoon that seems wide open with possibilities. Then you hit it again..... Hssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss goes that familiar sound. Now you are on Amazon looking at this review, perhaps after googling what an all refrigerator was. Just get this. If you want gallons of ice cream or costco runs, get a tiny over the counter freezer, or a chest freezer (or a matching/similar undercounter like this in all freezer version) and be done with it. Now, can this be built as an undercounter model, with almost no clearance? Yes, yes it can... but it will die. The heat needs to go somewhere hence the 4" clearance in docs. But... give it an inch of clearance on all side, wind tunnel style, and DIY it up with a fan (computer fans work well, are quiet and low energy). Build it right and you'll be swapping the fan out in a few months/years instead of the cooked compressor. It's about 34" in the front, 33" in the back for you counter inch counters - slight bevel. I'll update this if it dies before March. I received not a penny's discount in exchange for my fair and honest review, so how about a helpful clicky click?

I got this for my warehouse. I have an online business that outgrew my home for inventory, so I got a small warehouse. I was kind of unsure since people say they had problems with it getting cold enough. But I'm just storing drinks for when I'm around. Because of some people voicing complaints that it didn't get cold enough, I cranked it up to max, as the warehouse isn't air-conditioned and it has been in the 90-95 degrees lately. Well, today I came into a big puddle on the floor. It got so cold it actually froze about 12 cans of Dr. Pepper, to the point they exploded. Not it's fault. This thing is cool... in more then one way. :)

Cheers !!

This fridge works great. Keeps my drink cold on the Mid setting. I keep craft beers in here and I know it's not suppose to be on a really cold setting. I also store a few glasses in here as well. The shelving is not the best for bottles but it's manageable. I reversed the door and was able to make it self closing after removing the switch that turns the light off. *Update on shelving. I purchased some cheap poster frames that come with plexiglass instead of real glass. I cut the the plexiglass to fit each shelf which prevents the bottles tipping/leaning over. I read all the complaints about packaging and the unit arriving damaged. The packaging was great and showed no signs of damage. There was a good amount of Styrofoam to protect it. However when I took the Fridge out of the box the bottom left corner of the door was dented. This must have happened before the packaging process.

After I placed it in our basement I just let it sit unplugged for a few hours (as per instructions) to help prevent any start up problems. It is pretty quiet when on and manually setting the temperature to the middle brought the temperature down to 37-40 in 24 hours when empty. Fits my corny keg and 5 lbs CO2 tank perfectly. I can probably fit a second keg but the CO2 tank may not fit then. I removed all shelving for this to fit. The dimensions of the largest void in the front is 18 x 10.5 x 28. The back of the fridge is 20 inches from ceiling to base.

Small Modifications Make it Great |
    0

After reading several reviews, I bought this fridge (along with about $200 worth of beer) for my husband's Christmas present. I wanted a fridge with transparent door (so that we could see when we are running low) and something that could hold a good amount of beverages (so that we don't have to use our main fridge for storage). This fridge works great for our needs. It took us some time to figure out the shelves, but eventually we found a method we like. The bottom/first row is not a shelf, but there is a half shelf that goes right above it. This area is great for storing taller cans like the Red Bull shown in the picture or in our case, Bud Light Lime cans (which are now tall and skinny) and some craft beer that came in a four pack with taller cans. We arranged the top shelf to be just tall enough to stand cans up. The other two shelves we arranged to allow for one shelf of bottles and one more shelf for cans. We had one shelf that was not used in our setup. Our setup can hold 30 bottles (but more like 25 comfortably) on the bottle shelf, 15 cans on the top shelf, 30 cans (but more like 25 comfortably) on the other can shelf, and on the bottom shelf, since it is about half-size, can fit about 18 Bud Light Lime cans total. I learned some things I didn't know as we tried to set up and install the product. By standard, the door will open on the left, but you can modify it to open on the right. It looked like too much work for us (okay, we're just lazy) so we kept it opening left. Also, the light at the top of the fridge will turn on when you open the door only by default, but there is a toggle button on the left side that will keep the light on all the time if you prefer the "lit" look. Per some of the other very helpful reviews and customer photos on Amazon I did purchase a couple of add-on products for about $30 total: --> This end table, so that my tall husband didn't have to squat all the way to the floor for something on the bottom shelf: DHP Parsons Modern End Table, Black Wood Grain --> These flexible chopping mats so that the cans & bottles don't "tip" on the grill. This mat fix perfectly on the shelf with no cutting required. You need to place the mat shiny side down and matte side up so that cans and bottles will slide on it. We only had to make one modification to the mat for the first shelf, which is kind of a half-shelf, where the width of the mat was slightly smaller and we had to cut a notch for the mat to fit on the shelf.Flexible Chopping Mats 4 Pack. --> This string of LED lights for which we attached to the inside of the door via scotch tape (we'll see how long that lasts). The battery pack in this product happens to fit perfectly in a unusable notch area on the bottom/second shelving area, if the door opens on the left (since that is where the notch in the shelf is) Rtgs Micro LED 20 Super Bright Cold White Color Lights Battery Operated on 7.5 Ft Long Silver Color Ultra Thin String Wire [NEWEST VERSION] + 100% RTGS Products Satisfaction Guarantee So ultimately, it would be fantastic if this fridge utilized glass shelves or smaller grates, and had LED door lighting, but the mods were cheap and easy enough to do on our own. I have posted some photos to show you our shelving set up and a comparison of the LED string lights to the interior light. My only other note is that from back to front this fridge fits exactly five (5) bottles or cans. So, like most people, if you're buying beverages in multiples of six, this can be a little frustrating if your'e going for an organized, store-front look. This problem is easily solved by drinking one of those beverages as you put it into the fridge.

I received my fridge a few days ago, set it up according to the instructions and all is well. It wasn't damaged when I received it. I filled it with Coors Light and the "Super Cold" blue temperature stripe on the cans is solid blue. One caveat, Coors Light has a little different shaped can (skinnier and taller) so it doesn't quite hold as many cans as the unit advertises. I could only get 93 cans in to but that wasn't a big concern for me. One other slight nuisance is that I have this on carpet and it only has one leveler on the bottom which isnt quite long enough to lift it above the carpet too much so when you open the door, the bottom of the door drags a little on the carpet. Other than those two things, it's keeping the beer icy cold. It's not loud at all for me. It did warm up alot when it was first cooling but now that its reached its cooling point, it's not running warm at all. One plus is that my Krups BeerTender B100 fits on top perfectly! I'd recommend it especially at this price point. It was originally $65 more but I found it for this price on another website and reported it to Amazon and within 2 days they lowered the price so I ordered it here. Thanks, Amazon!

I was concerned given all the reviews about keeping the drinks cold enough but I use mine in my workout room to house all my exercise drinks and it keeps them plenty cold enough at a medium-high setting (probably due the fan circulating the air which most beverage coolers do not have). I haven't seen any dramatic increase in my electric bill either. My only complaint is the auto-defrost feature. It does auto-defrost and collect the water in a reservoir that is supposed to evaporate by the heat of the compressor. But in my house apparently it didn't get hot enough because it didn't evaporate and over flowed in the back and spilled out onto the floor behind the unit. Now I just keep an eye on it and use a large syringe to remove the water if the reservoir fills up.

BEVERAGE CENTER IS NOT THE SAME AS MINI-FRIG! |
    Verified Purchase

The information was there in the description, but i missed it, so I guess the fault is mine. I always read the negative reviews first to see what problems folks are experiencing, but the temperature issue wasn't addressed. It seemed there were more good reviews than bad - so i ordered the unit. However, if you are buying this "Beverage Center" so that you have COLD drinks, this is not the product you want. I purchased it for my business so we would have cold drinks - water, wine and champagne - to serve to clients. However, with a unit that has a cooling range of 43 - 57 degrees, you might as well keep your drinks in the closet. It is the sort of information that really should be highlighted/emphasized somehow - Beverage Center does not equal mini-frig! I can't believe that i'm the only one that was duped into thinking that because it looked like a mini-frig it would actually keep stuff cold.

    This Danby rates D- |
    Verified Purchase

This beverage center proved to be a very bad purchase for our family. However, at the end of my bad-news story, there is a happy ending. The first Danby DBC120BLS Beverage Center we ordered lasted 3 months before it stopped working. No warning; it just died a mysterious and unexpected death. Amazon was wonderful and quick to replace the lemon, which we hauled to the street for city pickup. The second (identical) Danby functioned but was so terribly loud that the noise intruded on conversations, TV watching, napping, and everything else connected with daily living. Our oversized fridge, in the same room, was silent compared to the little-but-clamorous Danby Beverage Center. The noise was driving us crazy, so we contacted Amazon. Amazon told us to contact the manufacturer, and the manufacturer told us to contact Amazon. (You know how THAT goes.) If we were to hope for a replacement, Danby required an authorized technician to examine the appliance. We scheduled a visit and waited (and waited) our turn. The technician agreed the noise was abnormally loud. He said the Danby needed a new compressor, which would cost more than the purchase price of a new unit. He suggested that Danby simply replace the appliance. Despite the authorized technician's written report, Danby squabbled about a refund. We were, however, welcome to crate and ship the unit back to them -- a heavy-lifting project that would end up costing as much in handling/shipping as the mini-fridge itself. (You can imagine our frustration.) Long story short: Danby non-cheerfully sent us a refund for the beverage center, which we unplugged and got rid of ASAP. Now what? We still needed a beverage center to fill the hole in our kitchen. We certainly were not willing to try another Danby, although it was the exactly-right size for our cabinetry. Here's the solution: First, we searched online for all beverage centers of appropriate dimensions, including units that were smaller than the above Danby. Next, we researched each of the units on our list to compare features, price, and RATINGS FROM CUSTOMERS. Because excessive noise is a common complaint in these little fridges, we did not want to order a new one (of any brand) and get stuck, again. We found a beverage center that looked good on paper and was not criticized for noise: Summit Model SCR312L. We had never heard of this brand before. We found out it was sold online by a "big box" store but was not available in-store. We spoke with the local store manager, told her we were interested in the Summit, but would need to plug it in at the store to listen to it before we committed to it. She agreed to order it for us; no problem... Well, the Summit SCR312L passed the test! It cools AND it is quiet! It isn't as tall as the Danby, but it holds a lot more than it looks like it will hold, which is enough for us. We use the excess space at the top to store a decorative box filled with extra beverages... Did I mention that this little fridge is quiet? ... My intention is not to promote Summit here. But I am suggesting that you find a way to see and hear the product before installing it in your home. We learned the hard way.

My third fridge to hold part of my beer collection. It maintains temperature well. As someone else mentioned, I went out and bought a large tile from the local hardware store for it to sit on. This really helps lift the fridge // door off of the carpet. I modified the bottom shelf to take off the raised wire, and rearranged the shelves to allow me to fit 50 12oz beer bottles and 4 "bombers". Fridge has been operating for about 6 months now without any issues. I have a picture of the fridge stocked with a few notes on Amazon for reference.

Just not my cup of Tea |

I wanted a fridge for my bar area that would keep just bottles of beer and other bar things cold. So when I purchased this fridge I read it might be loud but it is definitely one of the coldest fridges. When I first received the Fridge I followed all the guidance even a little too much by letting it sit out for 2 days before plugging it in and making sure it had room to breath. My first fridge however never got cold, in fact stayed very hot. In the back what I think was the condenser was very hot to touch as the fridge was trying to blow cold air. I called up Danby customer service who was very apologetic and helpful in walking me through some steps and informing me to just request a replacement fridge from Amazon as this one seemed to be broken. So I went through and quickly received a second fridge from Amazon, which I once again followed all guidance and plugged in. This time the fridge actually started to feel as though it was blowing cold air. But to be fair it does not feel cold enough for what I wanted from my bar fridge. Even storing as little as 15 drinks in the fridge none of the drinks were cold enough to drink without getting ice, or putting into a second fridge. I never got a temperature reading but even on the coldest setting the drinks were just not cold enough for what I wanted. For some this cold level may be fine but it wasn't what I was looking for in my fridge. I do appreciate the help I received from Danby customer service and the quick turnaround from Amazon on the fridge but this Fridge is just not for me. I have returned the second fridge and will begin to look for another model that is a bit colder.

Looks good, but doesn't get cold. |
    0

The minimum operating temperature, as stated in the owner's manual, is only 42.8 degrees. That means you can't even keep milk in this fridge. When I called Danby to figure out why they would make a fridge that doesn't actually refrigerate, I was told that it can also be used for wine. That's fine, but this unit is clearly designed for cans, which is why I bought it. If I wanted to store wine, I would have bought one of Danby's many wine refrigerators. If you enjoy pop and beer at only 25 degrees below room temperature, then I guess this is the fridge for you. I've never been able to get the fridge below 45 degrees, it's basically useless. One more thing, before you think that perhaps I got a defective product, I assure you, this is how the fridge is designed. If you insist on buying one, I would suggest getting it locally at a store with a good return policy.

    Better than expected |
    Verified Purchase

I put a refrigerator thermometer in it so I could perfectly set the temperature. Contrary to what others reported, you can make this unit quite cold. I have it set to around 36 degrees F. according to the thermometer. I have had no problems with the drinks freezing on the bottoms shelf. The unit arrived well-packed, double boxed with no dents or cosmetic defects. One thing that I think may be causing problems for other buyers: Be sure to let the unit stay in its normal, upright position for about 5 hours after unpacking it and before plugging it in and turning it on. (This is not specified in the manual, except in one place that explains how to reverse the door so it opens the other way, and there it says to wait for one hour before turning the unit back on after tilting it backwards or laying it on its side.) All refrigeration systems have oil in the compressor that can get into the coils when the unit is tilted out of the vertical position. You need to let the unit sit for a few hours so all the oil can drain out of the coils and back into the compressor before turning it on. Otherwise, you shorten the life of the compressor. This may be why a few people complained that the unit was making loud clicking noises or not cooling very well. We can barely hear the compressor when it turns on and the internal fan is nearly silent. I have only had this beverage center running for about a week, so if I run into any issues with it in the future, I will update this review.

    THE PERFECT MINIFRIDGE!!! |
    Verified Purchase

I was reluctant to order this at first due to a lot of comments around the packaging of the unit and them showing up with dents and scratches. When the unit arrived the outside parcel was a bit torn. However the seller must have taken the feedback that was given and made some changes as my unit was in perfect condition without a single scratch or dent. It was double boxed. The OEM box has the unit inside with a Styrofoam shell. Then the EOM box was lined with stiff cardboard corners and wrapped in Styrofoam around that and then placed in an additional box. Only the outer box had a slight tear. Given the weight of the unit it was expected. Don't hesitate to order this unit as I'm certain it will show up in perfect condition. Even if we were to order an additional one I wouldn't be worried. The unit itself is made of quality materials. I placed a digital thermometer inside the unit and it holds a solid 37 degrees inside. Keep in mind this is a minifridge and not a cooler. A major difference. The only complaint I have about the unit is that we have it downstairs behind our bar. Not in the bar but behind it sitting on the carpet. When placed on the carpet the door would drag the carpet and after our first basement break in party the door was left slightly open a few times because the door was difficult to shut. I tried to adjust the feet to raise the unit up but was unable to do so because the legs are not adjustable. I happen to have an extra 18X18 tile from the bathroom. I sat the unit on top of the tile and it solved the problem. The door open and shuts perfectly. Keep in mind we do not have shag carpet either. It is a medium density stainmaster carpet with standard stainmaster padding. If you plan to place this in a carpeted area do yourself a favor and go purchase an 18X18 tile. As others have mentioned the shelves don't hold cans the best when you go to fill it as some tip from side to side when placed vertical. I removed the second from the bottom shelf to hold 4-5Liter kegs. I can hold exactly a case of beer in the bottom section which is not as deep as the others since the compressor housing is in the way. Which leaves me with the top full shelf and the very top shelf that holds them in a horizontal fashion. The horizontal shelf holds a 12 pack 6 on each side. Without the removal of a shelf this unit will not accommodate 16oz water bottles or beer bottles placed vertically. These will need to be placed on their sides unless you remove a shelf. Overall I would give this fridge a 5 out of 5 or 10 out of 10. It servers our purposes perfectly and it looks great, and it was at a great price point. If I had to make a couple of changes or a wish list. I wish it used an LED bulb for that newer look. Additionally, I wish the light could be turned on when the door was shut since it is a glass face to showcase the drinks inside. UPDATE: Finds out there is a switch inside on the side of the light to turn it on. Check that off the lsit! Other than that it's the perfect height and the top is being used to hold our EdgeStar 5Liter Kegerator. Which places the tap at the perfect height and I am 5'10". All in all don't hesitate to purchase this unit as I searched for several weeks and really did my homework before ordering a mini fridge for our bar when we finished the basement. I assure you that you will not find a better product at this price point. UPDATE: Over a year later this thing is still ice cold and no issues. Look no furhter, the perfect minifridge holds true!!!

Very Good For Use As A Beer Cellar |
    Verified Purchase
