Not what I anticipated - very small skeins of yarn. Not worth the money.

These are very small balls of yarn. They come in many different colors, including metallic. This is priced the same as the chain stores, but with prime shipping, you do not have to go shop and save gas. I make MH and Barbie doll clothes with them. I also use them as accent color on knitting & crochet & sewing pieces. The colors are beautiful and really make a piece special.

    great for applique making |
    Colorado

All these one star reviews are because people thought they were bigger, IMO the product review should be on the product and not the fact that people don't take time to read or they assume something. I've seen these at the store and knew they were tiny. These are perfect little skeins for a lot of my itty bitty projects. I do lots of appliques and this is way cheaper and less wasteful then buying 8 colors of full skeins just to make a 3" applique

The yarn picture looked like 4 oz. skeins. Instead, I received tiny skiens. I would never have purchased this if I had known the picture was deceptive.

    good for practice crochet |

this was the first yarn I used to learn how to crochet. Like other comments here, they ARE tiny. Which can be a disappointment to some people but it was actually good for me to find out if I like crocheting or not.

I know skein sizes vary, I figured they'd be about the size of my fist, but these were super tiny. I'd say they were about half the size of a tennis ball.

Good for doll accessories, trims, small projects, etc |
    USA Midwest

I first noticed Bonbons when I was looking for accessories for my 18 inch dolls. A couple of these mini skeins in a wee basket and they were all set for crocheting and knitting. And, so was I. These packets give you yarn to make a doll hat, scarf, headband, etc. without having to buy a whole full size skein of yarn. And, they also work for small projects like ornaments, jewelry, granny squares, etc or larger projects where you just need a bit of accent color to set it off. They are a handy addition to my yarn stash.

This is not what I was expecting at all. It is my fault for assuming they were bigger but the pic is very misleading. These are the smallest "skeins" I have ever seen.

This yarn is "ok" but I would not buy it again. The best thing going for the set is getting lots of colors together, but I did not enjoy working with it--splitting and insubstantial.

The acrylic bon bons look flat out cheap. I realized these were small but I didnt realize how low quality these would be for $8 a pack. Reminds me of redheart supersaver but with more of a plasticy shine.

    Beautiful colors |

Tiny balls of yarn. Was tempted to give a few to my granddaughters for their American Girl dolls, but decided they were too expensive not to use for knitting. I used them to make hats for preemie babies, which are always welcome at any hospital with a neonatal ICU. By mixing and matching the colors, I was able to get six hats out of one package. Would have given a 5-star rating if the price was cheaper.

I got this for my daughter and she was so excited she loves knitting and crocheting and when the arrived she was ecstatic! then we opened it. :( then are like 1 inch around. if you put all the balls of yarn together it wouldn't even be half the size of a normal ball of yarn and she was so disappointed because i forced her to return it, it was 1 dollar for each ball of yarn and they are like 1 inch around and now i will never buy anything from lion brand yarn EVER again they tricked us and will never be able to earn the trust back!!! :( :(

Do not underestimate the tininess of these yarn packs. Check the size before you buy! The colors are bright and remind me of Easter. I used them for a classroom activity and found that they broke fairly easily. I'm sure they'd be fine if you were using them for their intended purpose rather than a bunch of high schoolers throwing them around.

    Oh STOP it |
    Los Angeles CaVerified Purchase

Yes they are small! WHY would they be called Bonbons if they were not little delicious samples of yarn candy to use for piece work like decorations, or granny square creative work, or, for me, little crochet bird ornaments. This is for when you don't want a whole skein to worry about storing up, when you want to make cute little piece mail projects to give away or sell at the bazaar. Personally I cannot use a whole 3 - 4 ounces of deep orange yarn. So I buy these cute little things. And in fact there is a lot more yarn in these bitty skeins than you might guess. Useful and just so cute.

I knew they were gonna be tiny but I didn't think they be the size of an egg. There was a picture of a girl holding it in her hand and I was like oh so a handful. PFFFFT they must have used the hand of a four year old for these miniscule things to look that large because like I said, it smaller then an egg and shorter than a lighter (see photos). Idk what the hell you would use these scraps for. I bought two thinking I can make something out of that much-wrong. Not even gonna waste my time. They're going back.

    Small and Smaller |
    Verified Purchase

The color of the yarn was great but each ball barely would make a square 3inx3in of a single crochet patter and the yarn in very thin (size 2) . I ended up just letting little kids use the yarn for finger knitting. It worked great for them and was a good decent size for a kid scarf. I won't be using anything similar for knitting but its fine if you just want colored crafting string.

I was unfamiliar with this type of yarn. They are tiny little skeins (about 3" long), and extremely fine yarn. I was surprised when I opened the package, but for what it is, it is very nice yarn.

    A Little Pricey? |

Got as a Christmas gift. Very pretty colors and very soft. Not a lot of yarn for the money in my opinion BUT a nice way to get multiple colors. I crochet hats for needy babies. Used these to trim the bottom edged and make a pom pom for them with quite a bit left over in each little skein. Would I pay this much for it, probably not, but it was nice to get as a gift. If you want to make a bigger project this package is not for you. But if you want an assortment for trimming items or making small items it's great. I haven't seen these in the local craft stores and I live in a fairly big community.

I bought this for my 8 year old daughter for Christmas to give her an assortment for her projects. The advertised size is 7.5 by 1 by 5.25-Inch, but it was more like 3 x 1 x 1. The entire package, I could cover with my one hand. This was not worth the money for me, so I returned it so I can get her something more substantial. Tiny, colorful bundles |
    Verified Purchase

They're cute, really cute. I had several really small projects and toys to knit and crochet for my friends, and I didn't feel like snipping through larger skeins of yarn to make them. I probably used about two-thirds of each of them to make these projects and toys and still had enough left over to do some stitching in other projects. The colors really pop out when contrasted with duller yarns, which made them excellent for stitching a name on a very boring and brown rabbit toy I'd knitted. I was also happily surprised by the softness and smooth texture of the acrylic, and it slid easily in my hands (a plus for me, since I live in a humid place, which slows down my knitting). I definitely wouldn't expect to use these yarns for the main body of larger projects like hats or even adult-sized socks, but they're great as samplers and just as good for stitching, amigurumi, and tiny ornaments.

Poor quality, smaller than described |
    Verified Purchase

I read the description and was expecting a worsted weight small sized skein. Instead, I got a finger weight/sock weight tiny skein. To create your "small" projects you have to use a very small needle or hook size, size 2 or smaller. In addition, the acrylic is not very good quality and catches when you crochet it. I will be using it for the project I planned, but I would not purchase it again.

    Nice Yarn. Poor Description. |

As many 1-star reviewers have already pointed out, the description at this time says, "Each skein measures approximately 7 by 1 by 4.25 Inch." In fact, this appears twice in the description. Hopefully Amazon can change it to more accurately reflect the fact that the entire package is about that size. Each skein of yarn is approximately 2 inches by 1 inch. Each tiny ball is 10 grams. The description does point this out, but it could certainly be more clear! :o) Yardage, weight, and material varies according to color choice, so it's a good idea to keep that in mind when you're choosing colors. I have 3 packages and they are all different... Brights: #3/Light, 100% Acrylic, 28 yds each. Beach: #2/Fine, 100% Cotton, 28 yds each. Celebrate: #2/Fine, 96% Acrylic/4% Metallic Polyester, 38 yds each. (I do have a 4th package, but don't have the label anymore.) Now that you know how tiny these mini balls of yarn are, I have to say that I really like them. I crochet a lot of amigurumi for my children and use the Bonbons for flowers, hearts, hats, scarves, mittens, handbags, and such. I haven't done it yet, but these could also be used to make hair barrettes, necklaces, a chapstick holder, and Barbie stuff. I also like using the cotton yarns for embroidering eyes, mouths, brows, and lashes. I don't like fussing with embroidery floss and I don't like having so many full-sized balls of yarn to store. I'm definitely a yarn addict, yet I'm also highly organized and like to keep things contained. Bonbons help fuel my yarn addiction and satisfy my need to stay neat. Eight full-sized skeins might be seem like a better value per yard, but it does mean you'll be spending more money upfront to get all of the color choices. Eight regular skeins of metallic? Yikes!$!$ And unless you use up every single scrap of yarn you have, you might have quite a bit leftover from a full skein. Is it really a good value if you have so much unused yarn lying around? :o) It's like that 2# bag of spinach that was super cheap, yet half of it went bad before you used it all. Hee, hee! :oP So Bonbons also help solve my spinach dilemma. Why only 4 stars? I do believe they are a little overpriced and have deducted a star for that. I buy them at my local craft shop with coupons and feel I'm getting a fair deal that way, but I wouldn't pay full price for them.

Really small but beautiful colors! |
    Verified Purchase

The bonbons are smaller than I was expecting but the colors are SO beautiful. I know nothing about yarn/knitting but my 10 yr old daughter uses a french knitter to make bracelets for her friends and these will provide her with more than enough to keep her busy for a long time. If your looking to do more than knitted jewelry, make creatures, or something equally as small look elsewhere because there won't be enough. At any rate I will definitely be buying her some of the other colors!

    Great Little Yarn Treat |
    Verified Purchase

Bonbons are perfect for little knitted or crocheted items, or as trim for items such as scarves, gloves, scarves, etc. The color selection is great. I gave Bonbons as a grab-bag gift at a knitting party and it was a giant hit.

VERY VERY VERY SMALL, MISLEADING PICTURE |
    0

Ridiculously small. It was recommended with a kids knitting loom. There is no way this would work with the loom as this yarn is very thin and there isn't much. It is a disappointment. I guess I should've read the fine print.

just letting you know... they don't call them "bon bons" for no reason, they are teenie tiny and surely not enough yarn for what I got them for. All in all, if you have a small critter to crochet, this would be perfect.

They are great matched with regular sized yarn. It gives depth in color and texture when you blend your yarn. Meaning you double up on the strands. It works when the colors are close but not the same. The item has a richer look. TRY IT.

Love the colors and the little skeins are fun. The only reason I did not give it a 5 star is that the textures are different depending on the colors. Some are more like cotton and some are fuzzier. I just wonder why they are not uniform in thickness.

I'm really surprised how thin this yarn is. Generally I am all about Lion Brand for it's consistent quality and variety. But, I'm not sure about the Bonbons. The colors are fun and I like this set better as it's cotton, but it's a challenge to match the yarn with anything else.

The colors of these yarns are beautiful, but they are REALLY small. I'm sure it says somewhere that they're only 28 yards, but somehow that didn't register with me. I got three different sets and can mix and match the colors. If you need tiny bits of size 2 yarn, this is the way to go.

I've been wary of buying these because of the negative reviews for length, but I'm making ornaments this year and needed accent yarn and didn't want to buy a whole skein. Yes, these are small, but they're densely wound weight 2 yarn. Altogether, they're about a skein's worth of yarn, but in a bunch of different colors. I'm actually quite pleased.

collectively they equal 2.8 ounces. they will all fit in your cupped hands. the colors are pretty and i suppose they could be used for bitty projects but they are not worth the price to my mind, Lion Brand or whatever. that company thinks they are a boutique now or something. the least they could do is offer acrylics at acrylic (affordable) prices

I recently ordered from the Lion brand website...big mistake. I did not know how much yarn I was ordering and I did not understand the sizes of the yarn by the pictures they used. Absolutely cute as buttons. These are just the right size if you want to do a multi-colored small project. The label has photos of small animals as examples. The yarn is 100% acrylic, but feels wonderful. I plan to do crochet. The yarn is very fine so I will be able to make pretty lacey things. I'm going to try to make hyperbolic crochet. Wish me luck! :)

These are great fun for small projects and for accent details. Quality yarn. I must not have read the description closely enough as I didn't realize when I ordered them that these are miniature skeins. But it is high-quality Lion Brand Yarn, despite the small quantity, and I will be buying more in other collections, because the colors are so beautiful.

It is small, I know. BUT NOT THE TYPE OF SMALL YOU'D THINK. It's like the size of my cats head.As I was doing my cast on, it was there but I started my knit stitch it was gone and I was just making a cover for my door knob. I went to my local craft store and Found it for 2 dollars

    0

I almost bought these, and am glad I didn't. The picture is deceptive. I saw them in a store - each bon bon is the size of two quarters laid side by side, and are 1/10 the size of regular skeins, which means that all of these together are less than 1 skein of yarn. I can't think of any reason to buy these. For about the same price, you can get lot more yarn.

I bought this package of yarn bonbons because I needed them for a crochet class I was scheduled to teach. While this is not a product I would personally need for my own knitting or crocheting projects, I will say the yarn is very nice. I can see a package like this might come in handy for someone who only needs a small amount of several colors of DK weight yarn.

Absolutely love these little Bon Bons! It's a significant amount of yarn or thread (depending on which kind you get.) I was surprised that it doesn't tell you which you are getting. You get to choose colors but each color pack is different, yarn, floss, thread. It didn't matter to me in the end bc I found uses for all the different types. The colors are all beautiful.

Nice yarns but not what I expected. As I'm new to crocheting and knitting, I thought these would make nice practice yarns for practicing my stitches. The yarn is very thing though and unravels easily, making it difficult to manipulate. Nice yarn too small for beginners to learn |
    Verified Purchase

I bought this set of yarns to practice learning how to crochet. The yarn is very nice and easy to work with but I do think it was too small to try and start out with. The colors are very bright and vivid. The colors shown on here are a tad bit duller than what you get in person so if you are expecting just dull colors this is not for you. These are very bright colors that really stand out.

The colors were beautiful; I just wish there was more to them.

    Verified Purchase

I did not know the first thing about crochet. So i got a book, some hooks and this yarn. Or string rather. I was trying to crochet and was wondering why it was so hard! It was because this yarn was waay too thin. So i went out and bought some thicker yarn and had an easier time. As for the yarn itself, it is not bad. But it is not very soft and there is very little product. Also it kept coming apart.

Great product. A little misleading with size. Whether you are french or not, these little skeins are just what the name implies, bon bons. I was looking for a "taste" of some new colors and these were very good for what I was looking for. I really like lions brand yarn with my crochet projects. They are very colorful skeins that allow you to try these colors and see if you want to purchase a large one. Very fun and playful!

This is a good idea, that is overpriced. I paid 12.09 which included shipping. It's not enough yarn for that price. I could have bought Sugar and Cream and had a lot more yarn for $12. This is so little yarn, it should be priced at $3 maximum.

    0

I saw these at JoAnn's and absolutely loved the colors, so I bought them for an experiment in tapestry weaving (and it didn't hurt that I had a 50% off coupon burning a hole in my pocket). The yarn is cotton rather than acrylic, and worked great for my little woven sampler. I only wish the little BonBons were larger (they are about 2 or 2.5 inches high) or I could buy larger skeins of the yarn to use in larger weaving projects.

    Exactly what I needed. |
    Verified Purchase

Exactly what I expected- but I knew to expect these to be very small skeins. I've seen some comment that the bonbons were smaller than the picture appears. Each skein is 28 yards of yarn appropriate fine gauge cotton good for a size 4 needle. While the cost is expensive for such a small amount of yarn, it is considerably cheaper than buying three full sized skeins for the tiny amount of each color that I need to make a couple of dolls.

Little skeins, perfect for a touch of color |
    Verified Purchase

I ordered these with the idea that they would come in handy when I needed to add a splash/ touch of color to a project but did not want to order an entire skein of yarn. Be aware that the weight of the yarn is not your typical worsted "3" or "4". It is more like a fingering or baby weight yarn "2". I still really like them and may even use them on their own, but I don't think they will work as I had intended.

I thought I fully understood just how small this yarn is. Wanted it for a scarf as I'd read reviews that 1 pack was perfect for a scarf. My crochet talents just aren't up to the task. Its beautiful yarn, really is easy to work with, I'm just way too clumsy for it. Have to stick to the ww weights and chunkies. Passing it on to my mother though who often uses #10 crochet thread to which I'd compare this. Its not quite as small as a #10 thread, but its close.

    Adorable & Useful! |
    Verified Purchase

These little BonBons are fantastic! The picture doesn't do the vibrant colors and sparkle justice, and they are a lovely soft sport/baby weight (they list it as DK, but it feels lighter than that to me). The picture should have something for gauge, because they are the sweetest little skeins, but at 38 yards there is plenty to work with. Perfect for amigurumi, and Lion Brand has a free pattern for a gummy bear made out of this yarn. Well worth the price!

I am rather disappointed with this yarn |
    Verified Purchase

I am rather disappointed with this yarn. First of all, the "skeins" are so small that you can't even complete a single decent project with all of them combined. Secondly, the yarn is rough, stiff and of an inconsistent thickness. Lion Brand Yarn is usually of a much better quality. If I was new to yarn projects and bought this sampler, I would never buy this brand again. It is not a good indication of what their product is usually like.

    great for applique making |
    0

All these one star reviews are because people thought they were bigger, IMO the product review should be on the product and not the fact that people don't take time to read or they assume something. I've seen these at the store and knew they were tiny. These are perfect little skeins for a lot of my itty bitty projects. I do lots of appliques and this is way cheaper and less wasteful then buying 8 colors of full skeins just to make a 3" applique

Tiny Skeins Can Be A Good Thing |
    Verified Purchase

Yes they are small, which is very handy if you travel or have children that get interested in what you are doing. I use these for face scrubbies, and I get two 5 inch-ish circles from one tiny skein using a 5mm hook and single crochet stitch. The part that I like is that this color set has a more cotton-string feel that washes well. Regular yarn doesn't lie flat without some work, but ones made with this yarn hold up to face scrubbing and washing while still looking nice.

Eensy weensy teeny tiny little bundles of yarn (like a sampler pack sort of, or for a kid to use) but pretty colors and soft! I bought these for making a yarn wreath since these little bundles are easier to pass through the hole in the wreath than a huge thing of yarn. A little overpriced for what you get, considering you can buy 1 bundle of yarn for less and get more yarn! But I'd seen these in craft stores and knew what I was getting so I wasn't disappointed.

I have found these Bonbons to be just wonderful for making motif projects and flower, etc accents. Picture a scarf, a little bag, or even crochet jewelry in a rainbow of colors. These are tiny bonbons. There a nice thin yarn but not that much of each color I made a infant hat and it took 3 skiens. Bold colors are great sleek yarn no fuzzing, works well.

These tiny skeins of yarn are very small, but so cute. The weight and texture of this particular selection is similar to heavy pearl cotton and would be appropriate for making doilies, baby sweaters/booties/hats, doll clothes, and other "smalls." The description is accurate--be sure to read it carefully before buying, so you won't be disappointed when you see how small Bonbons really are. The nice thing about Bonbons is that you don't have to buy a huge skein of yarn for a small project, and you get a variety of nice colors.

I wanted to like this, since it's a great sample of colors. I was prepared for & ok with the small size because I read the other views. But the "Beach" variety is also very, very thin yarn. Maybe this was mentioned & I should've noticed the suggested product on the package is bracelets, not some sort of knitting project, but several other varieties are not quite as thin. Not quite sure what I'm going to do with this now, since it's too thin for the project I had in mind. I'll just buy small Sugar and Cream balls of yarn in the future, better amount of yarn for your money.

I was excited to get these yarns and bought 5 different packages thinking they would be great to use several colors to make hats with different shading and some pretty flowers to go on the hats. I was sooo disappointed to find that the DESCRIPTION is generic, starting that they are all acrylic. Not so. Nature is cotton! AND they are not even all the same weight of yarn, some being size 2 and some 3. Some have glitter. This is more like embroidery thread or thin string. And each tiny skein is about twice as big as a quarter. Note to self: Read descriptions better. Just because they look like full sized yarn doesn't mean they're going to be full sized yarn. This is more like Crocheting thread than yarn (think doilies) Very small (the size of my husband's big toe) rolls. I know it's my fault for not reading more carefully and not understanding yarn measurements... But I feel like they could have put "mini" somewhere or maybe had a picture of them next to something for scale. I can't give 5 stars, I'm not comfortable giving 4 stars. I really feel like this could have been made more obvious. Will not work for it's intended purpose.

I am so pleased with these little balls of yarn. I will admit that I bought the first set to provide a "to scale" accessory for my 18 inch dolls. I already had a tiny crochet hook, and this completed the look.) But, once I had them in hand, I made a beautiful scarf of flower motifs that called for lotsdifferent shades. With two different packages of BonBons, I had all the colors I needed, and was not stuck with loads of leftover yarn. Since then, I have used them to put the finishing touch on hats, headbands, handbags, etc. by adding a small flower, star, etc. So, for me, these little bits of yarn are very handy. They are easy to carry around too.

Be aware that you're not buying full size skeins of yarn! Everyone is up in arms about being ripped off with these tiny yarn balls. They're Bon Bons and they're meant to be small. They're not intended for afghan creation, although, with enough of them and enough patience to attach another ball every few minutes, you could pretty much do anything. They're meant primarily for small crafts, and they're perfect for that! The yarn is beautifully colored and the tiny size is so adorable! I have some specifically for display purposes in my house because they're so cute to look at. Just be aware of what you're purchasing so you aren't disappointed when your tiny skeins arrive in the mail.

These are TEENSY! You're better off getting a whole skein. |
    0

I like the idea here. Give you just enough yarn to make an accessory or add a small accent so you don't have to buy a whole skein of yarn. Unfortunately, these little balls are exactly enough to make maybe two flowers or add contrasting band to a hat. There's not even enough here to make an amigurumi project unless it was super, super tiny. (Most of mine end up about the size of a baseball, and there's no way these little things could handle that.) If you do a lot of amigurumi and find yourself needing just a little of a certain color for an accent, this might be worth it. Otherwise, just buy a whole big ball of the cheap acrylic (this isn't very high quality yarn) and don't worry about running out.

    Great item, but SMALL |
    Verified Purchase

Great item, but be advised that the bonbons are SMALL. I was initially going to give this item a high rating given that people should read items descriptions thoroughly anyway (and it's your own fault for ordering something you don't understand), but now I'm giving it a poor rating because I don't feel it's clear from the description exactly how small they really are. This entry needs to be updated to truly show that - see the images other users have posted. I got these to make pom poms, and each skein was not large enough to make a SINGLE pom pom. For reference I had to wrap three skeins at a time to make ONE pom pom. So! Sorry to the seller for rating poorly given that it's what's described; it needs to be indicated more clearly to be taken seriously as a highly rated item.

    Verified Purchase

I purchased this item with a beginners knit kit because the kit didn't include yarn and this package of yarn was shown as an item commonly purchased in combination with the kit. Although there is nothing necessarily wrong with the yarn, I would not recommend that a beginning knitter purchase this yarn to start out. It is very thin and not the easiest to use when in the beginning stages of knitting. I have recently purchased a few spools of chunky wool, and I think those will make the learning process go much more smoothly..and the chunky wool is much softer, prettier, and any project, even a beginners one, will turn out much better in comparison to using this yarn. So just a recommendation from one beginner to another..go for a chunky wool and pass on this amazon suggested paired purchase!

    BonBons Means Small |
    Verified Purchase

Okay, I get it now, albeit after I received the product; bonbon means small. I purchased this product because of the beautiful colors. And the colors are beautiful. However, there is not much product. I did not consider the dimensions. I will take some of the blame for not totally comprehending the phrase: "Indulge in color with Bonbons, our collections of 8 miniature skeins of yarn, perfect for any project requiring multiple colors." I did partially comprehend in that I ordered three of these. But the photo accompanying this product is misleading. They are not has big as the photo represents. Perhaps if I were a more experienced knitter I would have realized what the dimensions represented. Color-wise and quality-wise, I like this product. Just be aware that you won't get very much of any one color even with the intent of switching between colors in one project.

    icky, don't like these! |
    Verified Purchase

I ordered this for a small project, and was disappointed. The mini-skeins were much smaller (yardage) than I expected, even though I only needed a little of each color, it was just a few yards "short". The yarn came off the skein all mashed and smooshed, as if it were wound so tight it was deformed. I re-wound it on my new wool-winder to let it breath and relax, but it didn't seem to help. The weight of the yarns varied from each color-ball. some were extra fine, almost lace weight, while others were heftier almost DK weight. This made my project lopsided. The yardage varied GROSSLY from ball to ball, varying by as much as 5-8 yards, which is a lot for something this small (38 yd per ball). The yarn worked up ok, it was fairly splitty, which made stitching slow. Colors are nice and bright, which is the ONLY plus for this product. For the price, it is not a value at all. I would never use these again.

Just What I was Looking For |
    0

These are TINY little skeins of yarn. Each measures about 2 inches in length and 1.5 inch diameter, and contains 28 yds of each color. I got the 'Nature' color scheme and they are just beautiful. The yarn itself is fine and the packaging suggests using a size 4 knitting needle or a size F crochet needle. I'm knitting these adorable balls [...] that uses 7 colors of "your scrap yarn" But, I'm a beginner knitter and don't have a yarn reserve built up. I didn't want to buy 7 entire skeins of yarn, so this product is perfect for a pattern like this! I've already made 2 balls and still have lots of yarn left. The only drawback is because the yarn is so fine and requires smaller needles, the balls are smaller than in the pattern (my mistake as a novice, since weight is clearly listed in the description). But the balls are still adorable and my kids (and dog and cats) love them. But I may buy more bonbons of a heavier weight.

Small Yarn for Small Projects |
    Verified Purchase

I bought the Jingle Bells Bonbons to make a set of Christmas ornaments. I knew they would be small, so I wasn't surprised by the miniature size. So far, I've made 6 small ornaments from the yarn in the package and there is plenty left to make more. The colors are really nice, but my only issue with the pack is that the yarn comes in two different weights. The solid red, green, and white skeins are a light weight yarn. The metallic yarns (or sparkle yarns) are even lighter...and I'd say they are thinner than my kitchen twine. I combined these in my projects and I felt it gave a bit of an uneven look to them. Individually the yarns are really nice and combined, the colors go great together. I'm just a beginner at this and I really noticed the weight difference between the different types of yarn. Overall I'm happy with the size of the Bonbons. I'll use them for decoration and accents in the future. It's nice to be able to buy a small palette of several colors.

Bonbons Are Perfect for Small Projects |
    0

These Lion Brand Bonbon yarns are good for when you just want a small amount of yarn to get different colors so you don't have to buy full-size skeins of yarn for each color you want to use. Go to the Lion Brand Yarn website for free patterns for the bonbon yarns. It will give you ideas for what you can make with them from color block scarves, roses, headbands, baby booties, braided necklaces, amigurumi projects, etc. Enter bonbons in the Search box and click on Go. Better yet use the following link: [...] I got more bonbon pattern results when I used it. I especially like to crochet roses to attach to anything. With these bonbon sets I get a variety of eight different colors in one pack. It gives me a means to make several different roses (Lion Brand Yarn pattern L20081) with the color packs, and not have to buy regular size skeins for each color. The name bonbons is a good name for them as they are small size skeins. Each small skein has 28 yards, 0.35 oz. I find there is enough in a skein to make small projects and the colors are beautiful. I have recommended them to all my crochet friends.

First, let me say, are people really expecting to get 8 full sized skeins for this price????? If you are, then you must not really be into yarn crafting! Yes, these are super tiny. I love that I get tons of bright cheerful colors for Small projects. I use all of these colors to make super fun and cheerful striped cup cozies that I sell on my website...along with normal stuff! =} Four colors will make 2 regular size covers to fit store bought Styrofoam cups. So, I get 4 cozies per package. Yes, super small, but I don't always need large amounts of yarn. Believe me, I always have tons of full sized skeins sitting around for regular projects. These leave me with no wasted scarps and do what they are needed for. Before you buy, make sure that you know what you will do with them, and consider the price. Can you buy 8 full sized skeins of yarn at the stores for this price? NO! So, you aren't getting 8 full size skeins of yarn in these packages. I personally love these. I bought all 8 of these fun colored packages and two of the crayon ones. Just what I need, and I'll probably buy more.

It's not the size, it's the quality. |
    Verified Purchase

I want to be very clear, I am not complaining about the size of the yarn; I'm complaining about the quality of the yarn, and the consistency of the product within one single package. First off, the yarn in my package is fuzzy and splitty. It's very thin for supposed sport weight yarn; going off looks alone I would have guessed it to be closer to fingering weight. (I noticed another review calls it sock-weight yarn, so I'm not the only one who finds it thin.) Even with that, the suggested hook size is 5.5mm--for comparison, that's also the recommended hook size for Red Heart Super Saver yarn, which is probably three times as thick as this stuff. The knitting needle size is only 4mm. There is not typically such a disparity between suggested hook and needle sizes. If you use the recommended hook, you're guaranteed to be left with a sloppy, floppy disappointment. The first picture I'm including is of some of the red skein. It is NOT out of focus; the yarn is just fuzzy. Now, the inconsistency problem. Second photo is of 7/8 of my little skeins (I didn't think to take a photograph until after I'd used the red). You can sort of tell from the product photo that they're not actually all the same size; it's more readily obvious in my photo. The package claims that each skein of yarn is 28 yards. The bright orange is visibly larger than the others. The yellow didn't seem smaller, but nevertheless turned out to have less yarn in it than both the red and the light orange. I was able to get a nice 6-round granny square from both the red and the light orange (which worked out to about 4.5"; see the third photo), with some left over, but the yellow skein came up short with half a round to go. I've been crocheting for 25 years. I am not a novice. This is not an issue of inconsistent tension. It's an issue of inconsistent amounts of yarn. I actually felt bad for planning to leave a three star rating right up until I ran out of yellow yarn. Here's my last issue: the colors don't really coordinate. I don't know if this is an issue across all the colorways or not, but it is here. The red and purple are fairly dark and rich. The green and blue/teal are lighter but still fairly similar. Then there are inexplicably three neon colors (bright orange, yellow, and pink) and the other orange is almost a pastel. And why two shades of orange? It's not red-orange or yellow-orange plus normal orange, it's neon and pastel orange. I'll make it work, since it was a Valentine's Day gift, but it's not something that adheres to any decent standards of design or color theory.
  293. 3 out of 5

Meh, I don't know what all the fuss is about... |
    Verified Purchase

I don't think I'll purchase again. If you are a light yarn user and want to use a small amount of a color, then these are for you. The yarn itself is thin and not, in my opinion, Lion Brand's best effort. If you are wanting to add a stripe of color, be sure to match the 'weight' of the yarn to the bonbons weight.

This yarn is great for small projects. I did Christmas ornament sweaters and liked that I could make a variety because I didn't have to buy a ton of yarn to do it. I have a book for little knitted critters that I bought this yarn for. It Normally I would just use left over yarn for these projects but I don't have quite the colors I want for some so I bought these. The product information says that each skein measures 2.5 by 1 by 5.25-Inch. I can't figure out how they came up with this measurement as each skein is actually less than 4 inches long and a little over an inch in diameter. I thought they would be about 3x bigger. The yarn is nice, especially the cotton (in another bag) and fun to work with. However, in the future, I'll just get together with my other knitting friends and trade off our project leftovers for my smaller projects. It's cheaper and ore resourceful.

    Nice Yarn. Poor Description. |
    0

I didn't realize that these were little skeins of yarn! LOL And I found a pattern for baby booties calling for these specific Bonbons! And I have another grand baby due soon so a nice "coincidence"!!

    Really itty bitty |
    0

These are really cute. Sport weight is a bit lighter weight than I thought, but okay. It's like a light packing string. But the name "Bonbons" is appropriate. They are just about the size of chocolate bonbons. Finger length and not much thicker than your finger around. For some reason, I thought I would be getting more yarn for eight bucks. I think I will look for these locally from now on and see if I can get them for under $5. They're not really worth much more.

Guess I should have been more observant when reading the description of this product. I thought it was "regular" weight yarn. I have no idea what I'll use this for, but it's very pretty.

Lion Brand BonBons Yarn is Super |
    Verified Purchase

I have bought multiples of all the colors and love them. For one thing, they're just plain cute. I store them in a cut glass bowl in my dining room. Practically, each is the perfect size to add a dab of color to any project or even suitable for small projects, like small crochet flowers. The variety is great and the price is, also.

I got a bunch of these in different colors for my beekeeper's quilt project (google it, it's wonderful). They're the perfect size to make 2-3 hexagons.

    Misleading description |
    Verified Purchase

I bought this yarn with the intention to use it for doll making. I crochet dolls and some time that means only using a little bit of color here and there and buying whole skeins is just pointless. I bought these knowing they wound be small, but I am giving 4 stars due to the description of these items being misleading. This small balls of yarn are tiny, the size of an egg. The yarn is itself is 4ply "fingering" weight. Perfect for small additions to larger products, I used white and blue to make a tiny little sailor hat for my doll.

    Oh STOP it |
    Verified Purchase

Yes they are small! WHY would they be called Bonbons if they were not little delicious samples of yarn candy to use for piece work like decorations, or granny square creative work, or, for me, little crochet bird ornaments. This is for when you don't want a whole skein to worry about storing up, when you want to make cute little piece mail projects to give away or sell at the bazaar. Personally I cannot use a whole 3 - 4 ounces of deep orange yarn. So I buy these cute little things. And in fact there is a lot more yarn in these bitty skeins than you might guess. Useful and just so cute.

Cute Idea but Too Small |
    Verified Purchase

I have a book for little knitted critters that I bought this yarn for. It Normally I would just use left over yarn for these projects but I don't have quite the colors I want for some so I bought these. The product information says that each skein measures 2.5 by 1 by 5.25-Inch. I can't figure out how they came up with this measurement as each skein is actually less than 4 inches long and a little over an inch in diameter. I thought they would be about 3x bigger. The yarn is nice and fun to work with. However, in the future, I'll just get together with my other knitting friends and trade off our project leftovers for my smaller projects. It's cheaper and more resourceful.

I love these little skeins of yarn. They're perfect for adding accents to larger projects or for making small animals, etc. Sure, they're more expensive by weight this way, but I'm getting 8 colors for that price - buying 8 full size skeins would be more expensive and I'd have to store them. I watch for them to be on sale and pick up a few. I hope they add more themed varieties!

Yes, these skeins are tiny BUT that's what I needed them to be!! Just enough to add that perfect accent color for knitting for my daughter's 18 in Springfield Collection dolls - didn't have to buy big huge skeins of yarn to have leftover taking up space in my already full storage closets... PERFECTION!!

Description quotes "Each skein measures approximately 7 by 1 by 4.25-Inch." Actuality: 2.5 x 1 x 1 inch. I have a hard time translating the length into wound volume in my head, so I visualised the given measurements. Cute colors, but barely enough to do anything with.

After having seen Lion Brand yarn before, and seeing this as a smaller skein, I figured it would be a smaller skein of the lion brand yarn. From the description they made it seems like this would be good for projects requiring many colors of yarn but not a lot of it. This "Yarn" is the size of embroidery thread in thickness and probably length. I was expecting regular yarn based on the more expensive price. I was kind of expecting small skeins of regular yarn, not normal skeins of thread. On the bright side, it was for amigurumi anyway and I'll just use it for sewing the details. If you're looking for regular yarn- go elsewhere If you are looking for reasonably priced thread- still probably go elsewhere If you like the colors and use them for accents but nothing major, this will probably work for you. Picture is a little deceptive as it looks like regular yarn. It is not...it is tiny thumb sized skeins of thread.

Ordered these for my wife because she really loved the colors. LESSON LEARNED! They were described as 7.5x1x5 each skein.....not even close. The entire package wasn't even that big. We should have looked at the reviews first. We posted a photo of one of these skeins in her hand (keep in mind, she is 4'11", tiny hands). Very disappointed, wife really liked the yarn quality and colors, but to advertise them as they do is very misleading. She emailed Lion Brand regarding this and received no response. Yarn quality is the only reason for giving 2 stars.
