This item was delivered timely and I am surprized at the brilliant colors, the ease of usage and the overall product. I recommend this to any other seniors who just dabble in water colors.

    It works. Barely. |

If you are just starting out or perhaps you are in elementary school, this watercolor set will do you some justice. However, if you are looking for another watercolor set for maybe travel purposes or you want to expand your amount of watercolors, this is NOT the set for you. When moving onto higher quality watercolors, the number one thing that is typically looked at is the vibrance of color once the paint has dried. This set, even when you load a lot of color onto your brush, it is impossible to obtain strong, vibrant colors. There are other cheap watercolor sets that actually do the job well (Prang for example). This set looks pretty, and the colors mix okay together, if vibrance isn't an issue for you, take advantage of the price of this set and go ahead and buy it.

Pale tints...very low color saturation. I should have paid more for better quality. Quite disappointing . I do not recommend this set.

    Nice assortment of colors |
    FloridaVerified Purchase

I bought this set for an online watercolor class, and as I didn't know how well I was going to like watercoloring, I didn't want to spend a lot of money. This set was more than adequate for the job. Our first assignment was to make a color chart of each color, and I would recommend doing so for this or any set of watercolors because the color in the pan looks quite different when mixed with water. I was drawn to the broad assortment of colors in this set, and it served me quite well for class.

    Not too good |

This palette has a wide variety of colors. However, the colors are not very rich. They are pale no matter how much you try to load the color to try to get some depth. Would not recommend except for maybe the children to use.

    I really like these. |
    Verified Purchase

These are really fun to use in my mixed media art. I still a newbe but are pretty easy to use. They are better pigmented than crayola. But some of the colors are more richly pigmented than others. These are great for painting a night sky, galaxy print, and sunsets. I think this will last me six months with me using them every other day.

    Thin, dull color |
    Verified Purchase

These colors are very, very thin and dull looking on the paper. I've used vivid watercolors before (didn't know the brand so couldn't buy) and I was very disappointed with these. They don't blend well and you need to get a ton of the paint on your brush to get any real color out of them.

I have used more expensive watercolors, but for this price and the wide variety of colors, I had to give these a try. I was surprised how well I like them! I would say they probably don't have as much pigment as some, but I found them very good for art journaling. Plus, I can let my granddaughter share without worrying about them. They seem to last a long time. I recommend a water brush, too. Makes using them much more convenient and less messy.

    Excellent value & colors |
    Verified Purchase

They most certainly deserve 5 stars for what they are, cake paints and not tube paints. The price is GREAT for these. I bought them as I just started with watercolors and didn't know if I would like it or have any affinity for it. The price was MUCH MUCH lower than investing in the tube paints and is even less than other cake paints, with more colors, too. I'm taking a class so I could also compare these colors to those that have the tube paints, pretty close match! Tubes might be a bit more vibrant and easier to mix to get different shades but these mix quite well and I was able to get really awesome colors. In fact, I thought some of my colors were superior to those using the tube paint. I would highly recommend them for all these reasons.

this wasn't good at all! |
    Verified Purchase

the cakes fell out immediately after i opened up the ratchet packaging. It wasn't that amazing of a palette and i had purchased it in conjunction with the japanese pearlescent watercolors. they both sucked ass. This packaging and watercolor is probably made for kids. I guess if you're looking for something good you should look elsewhere, especially if you've had previous experience with watercolors. If youre new and don't know much better about what colors should look like, how their textures should feel, and their finishes, then this would be an amazing beginners set but i still have a few complaints: the cakes are horrible to use. you have to scrape the pans to even get some color pigmentation and that ruins the ease of watercolor the cakes also are glued to the bottom quite s***tily so they fall out really fast the brush youre given is cut hella asymmetrically so you cant even work with it well, since the longer brush bristles on one hand will ruin the rest of your painting although youre not really doing anything wrong some of the colors look differnt in the pans but when you have them on the paper, even opaque, they are very similar.

Just not great paints in my opinion. I actually would prefer to use the kids Crayola brand water colors because they're easier to use... The container is better. But that's just my opinion. Awful for kids. They make a mess & there's not much control.

hard to get colors on the brush, no matter how much moisture you drip onto the color before using the brush. Paint is grainy and difficult to get any color saturation. Many shades are so closely related in hue IRL that they are indistinguishable.

    Very pretty. |
    Verified Purchase

Nice colors. I have used just about every color so far, and though some of them do seem to be a bit grainy, they are all pretty good quality. I especially love the light peachy color. (I paint alot of anime girls) One of the green cakes did break off, but I think maybe that was my fault for not being gentle enough with it. I say buy, because these paints produce some lovely colors!
  42. 4 out of 5

Great deal for the price |

I agree with the other review that says these colors aren't the best. Still, for the price and the amount of different colors you get it's a really good deal. I use this set with a bunch of other different color sets to give me a large number of options. You could still use this set by itself, just not the best quality of watercolors. I've done at least two dozen paintings with this set and they all turned out great. I was using a few colors from other sets though. Still For $5 you can only complain so much.

    Nice colors |
    USAVerified Purchase

Nice colors. Very solid colors. Not very transparent. Even with water, they don't dilute like usual cake type watercolors. If you want a less dominant color then use more water. Definitely TEST on a separate piece of paper before you use directly on your 'masterpiece.'

Good quality but disappointed with color selection |
    Verified Purchase

The quality is great for the price. I'm familiar with acrylics, not watercolors, but it seems nice enough for beginners. But I was little bit disappointed with the colors-- the colors are not as distinct and diverse as the picture shows. Green, blue, and purple have colors that are almost identical. Also, there's no skin tone color. It always seems a little bit too orange even after I mix colors :( So even though there are 36 colors, I think I'm going to buy another paint later for more colors. But for now I like this and it's good enough

    "Grandma Spoils Me ..." |
    TexasVerified Purchase

My four-year old grandson loves to paint. When I chose the "Loew Cornell 1021095 Simply Art Watercolor Cakes" as part of his birthday gift, I became his instant heroine. This watercolor set contains a large number of vibrant, unusual colors. The multitude of colors helps keep each cake "clean" since there is no need for my grandson to "mix" colors. The cakes are dry and not waxy; this is a positive since little fingers do not become color-coated when touching the dry watercolors. The generous size of the individual colors should help prevent "running out" of my grandson's current favorite hue - red. Although I no longer paint, I was impressed with the quality of "Loew Cornell 1021095 Simply Art Watercolor Cakes". Depending on the amount of water you add, the ability to use these watercolors as a translucent wash or as an opaque cream gives one a wide range of creative options. I definitely recommend "Loew Cornell 1021095 Simply Art Watercolor Cakes" for your own art/craft projects or for your little one's introduction to the joys of painting.

Fair for cheap watercolor, not impressive |

The colors, even though there is a large selection, are quite dull and leave a matte finish. I much prefer the Yasutomo sumi paint sets, which only have 12 colors but are much more vivid and alive. I'll probably use the Loew Cornell paints for certain moods, but they're not my favorite.

    vibrant but a little gritty/chalky |
    Southwest FloridaVerified Purchase

I have to admit, I'm a fan of the more "tacky" watercolor cakes- the kind that are a bit translucent and almost like a dry slab of gel (sort of like the Crayolas that we had as kids). If you would put your fingertip on them, they'd leave a little print. To me, they always seem a little more saturated and smooth when they go down on paper and retain their translucency. These Loew Cornell SimplyArts are definitely DRY and more opaque watercolor cakes. However, with a bit of water, they form a beautiful, vibrant paint that performs beautifully. Add a little water, you get an opaque creamy paint that lays down thick. Add more water, and the paint grows more translucent. I use them for art journaling, projects with lots layers, and projects with my daughter. Them seem to do nicely on all surfaces, but because they are so dry to begin with, they require quite a bit of water to get them properly going, and so its recommended to stick to thicker papers. I think these would be great for student use of non-archival art use. I do know several professional artists that use these regularly and swear by them, so that's good enough recommendation for me. I can't vouch for colorfastness or how bad they do fade over time and exposure to light, but if you are painting things you really want to keep and display for decades, you'll probably already know how lightfast and archival your materials are. The color palette, however, is AMAZING. And the size of the paints is impressive. To get a range of these colors for the price is a steal. The Big Box stores have them for about five dollars, so you might want to keep that in mind. But even for any price point under ten, these are a great bargain and will REALLY inspire you.

These watercolors dry incredibly dull. They have no brilliance or intensity. Everything I've tried to paint with them comes out slightly muddled and dark. Sometimes you do get what you pay for I guess.

I loved the variations of each color which helped to create a more realistic painting, since you never see a leaf or a flower completely one color but different shades due to shade and light. The colors in this collection make your paintings so much more interesting and beautiful.

Excellent set for just about anyone |
    Shakopee, Minnesota United States

I have been painting using this exact set for the last 8 years. Yes, 8 years on one set, creating hundreds of paintings. The colors are bold and vibrant. There is a modestly chalky finish, but something to be expected with watercolor cakes (which I prefer over the tubes). Unlike some whites, this one actually shows up over other colors (surprise!). My white and black were finally starting to get low, so I decided to try a few options: Watercolor pencils, Nicole Crafts watercolors, and Yamasoto watercolors. I would rank these on par with Nicole Crafts watercolors, though modestly more chalky, and better than the other two. I believe this set can be used by the professional, the amateur, or the child with no discrepancy. If I have one complaint, it is the color selection. There are a dozen shades of red and purple, and four browns (two of which are nearly identical). If you plan to paint flowers, you will be very happy, but I paint animals in landscapes, and the colors were very limiting to me. I still have two colors that I have never used, yet my browns are nearly gone. If you are serious about watercolors and want to use cakes, I recommend buying this set along with the Nicole Crafts 36-color set. That will give you a wide selection of colors (with a little overlap on colors you use a lot of).

These are great colours! Nice & vibrant & a good variety.. I'm not used to cakes, and they do have a little bit of a chalky finish when dried & they seem more opaque, but neither of these things really bothered me.

Very good product, but much cheaper at Michael's |
    Montr?al, Canada

I love these watercolor cakes. They are easy to work with, both for adults and children. The colors are different and more varied than what normally found in watercolor pans. We're talking vivid colors here. However, I was able to find them for less than $5 each at my local Michael's store.

I've been looking for watercolor cakes that aren't chalky like so many are, and these fit the bill perfectly. I am a self-taught artist and use them to create mixed media pieces. These watercolors are high quality, vibrant, and I love the array of colors. They were absolutely perfect for what I needed.

    My Daughter LOVES them |
    Belle Harbor, NY USAVerified Purchase

My 3rd grader's teacher studied different artists with them every Friday, and worked quite frequently with watercolor. My daughter asked for a set bigger than the one she had (the standard 12 color box). She was thrilled with these, especially that there was skin tone. Colors are vibrant, and love the many hues.

    Simply Art: Watercolor Cakes |

Ah. I love these paints. They're wonderful to work with, not waxy at all and they last such a long time. I bought two of these 36 color cake sets sets three or four years ago. I am an avid watercolor painter, so I use them a lot and I'm just now needing to get a new set or two and I still have a well amount of paint. I really would recommend these paints if you're looking for a cheap, but very lasting and good quality water color set. (=

Loew Cornell 1021095 Simply Art Watercolor Cakes This set of paints are wonderful. The Hubby and I have hit the 50+ mark in life. I've seen all these "adult" coloring books and I thought they'd be great to help the hands stay nimble. So, I needed a set of paint that weren't too expensive. These hit the perfect price point of quantity and value. The colors are bright and true. The hinged lid, once open, works great for mixing a little bit of color. (Just make sure you soak the mixed paint up with a paper towel before you close the cover :) ) It does come with a brush, but I recommend getting a set with various sizes and shapes. Over all I am very satisfied with this paint set and recommend them. (My set arrived with no crack in the paints.)

Good paint, but 8-9 of the blocks were badly broken. It's watercolor so it won't affect it's usability, but if you're giving as a gift, it can be a bit of a let down.

The perfect palate for learning. But, the colors end up drying weird colors. For the price, it's a fun experimental or learning tool but not super accurate for a color palate.

These are very thick and do not actually give the same degree of variance as water color pencils do, but they are fun to use in full strength for just "painting within the lines".

Colors look great in the picture, but don't be fooled... there is little to no actual pigment in the cakes. After the paint has dried, the colors fade quickly and has a weird chalky texture to it. Would not recommend this to anyone.

Nice colors. Very solid colors. Not very transparent. Even with water, they don't dilute like usual cake type watercolors. If you want a less dominant color then use more water. Definitely TEST on a separate piece of paper before you use directly on your 'masterpiece.'

It takes a little messing around with to get the amount of color I want but since I water color mostly for fun it def. works well enough. I really love how many colors there are. I'd say the biggest difference between this and a more expensive better watercolor cakes is that it take more water to get the desired color.

These are really fun to use in my mixed media art. I still a newbe but are pretty easy to use. They are better pigmented than crayola. I think this will last me six months with me using them every other day.

Okay I know you get what you pay for in the realm of art supplies. This is okay for any beginner or child as it has a lot of colors to help with blending and making your work better than an 8 color palette. Would I buy this again? I bought these paints for my 4 year old for Christmas. If I bought again, I'd probably buy a set that was made for children. For adults, this set is great, but it takes some work to get the color to come out of the cake. When you do work at it, the colors are beautiful, but for a child that wants to just put a little water on them and paint away, it was a little disappointing.

    Verified Purchase

The brush is very poor quality, if you get this I'd highly recommend picking up some other brushes to use with it unless you'd like a lot of free hairs in your work. That said, the wide array of colors is nice and if you're scrapped for cash or only use watercolors sparingly, it's a nice set to get. The colors can come out a little on the lighter side, but they're still very useable.

    Verified Purchase

I've been wanting to do a little watercolor work lately, but don't have a lot of money to throw around. After comparing many reviews, I settled on this set as the best combination of quality and low price. The vivid colors hold up in applications from very thin washes to heavy strokes. The colors mix well and behave as watercolors should. I've been very pleased with my choice so far.

Colors are bright and pretty, and can be sheer to opaque. Great little set, I'm very very happy!

I've been really enjoying this set of watercolors! I love all the colors in the tray, and appreciate the variety. Some of the colors transfer vividly to paper, while others maintain a softer wash. I've been really pleased. Just wish the colors were a tad bit bolder. Also, the brush that's included is worthless. It sheds bristles with each use, so make sure to use a quality paint brush.

Nice colors. I have used just about every color so far, and though some of them do seem to be a bit grainy, they are all pretty good quality. I especially love the light peachy color. I say buy, because these paints produce some lovely colors!

Terrible quality! Maybe I was expecting too much when I read the other reviews, but these do not perform well AT ALL. These would be good if you're getting them for a child but definitely not for a real artist. The paint is HARD and chalky so color is almost impossible to pick up. The colors look great in the pan, but are pretty dull on paper. No vibrancy, nothing special. Glad I only spent a few bucks on this

Well the colors are really great they have great pigment. They show up very vividly. They go above and beyond! I am SO SO happy that I bought this!

These paints are spectacular. My kiddos love to paint. We like the crayola brand watercolors okay but I think these are leaps and bounds better. The color variety is perfect and they work as soon as they are wet. With the Crayola ones I had to get them wet and let them sit before the colors worked. These work on the first pass. I'm very happy with them. I'll re-review if this changes after further use but for now it's a five star review from me!

    Verified Purchase

I bought this set for an online watercolor class, and as I didn't know how well I was going to like watercoloring, I didn't want to spend a lot of money. This set was more than adequate for the job. Our first assignment was to make a color chart of each color, and I would recommend doing so for this or any set of watercolors because the color in the pan looks quite different when mixed with water. I was drawn to the broad assortment of colors in this set, and it served me quite well for class.

This is my first ever watercolor palette so I'm not one-hundred percent sure what's good quality and what isn't. For my first watercolor palette- I'm in love. The large variety of colors is great! I've had this for about a month or so and I've almost used the whole thing up, of course due to me making 5 paintings everyday. The color lifted easily, the colors are vibrant and there's not one thing I dislike about this palette. I bought this palette for $6-$9 ( not sure what the exact price is ) and found it at Walmart for only $4.

But for now I like this and it's good enough

... small children to paint with as the price was great for the assortment of colors you get |
    Verified Purchase

We purchased these for my two small children to paint with as the price was great for the assortment of colors you get. We ended up taking the little pucks out of the case (which wasn't too easy) so we could put a disc into a little bowl of water on it's own for a few seconds. This gave the water enough color for the kids to have a good time and to prevent them from mudding all the colors together. The pucks fit nicely back into their spots and we can use over and over. I can't speak to the professional quality, but for kids it works well.

Nice for beginners and hobbists |
    Verified Purchase

Bought as a gift for a teenage sister-in-law, we tried them out, and they get pretty nice results *IF* you let the water soak into the color cakes for a minute or two first, they provide a decent color range for a hobbyist. I say this because if you try to use them straight off the bat, then you will be disappointed by the extreme translucency. I might get some for myself when they go on sale again, though I prefer to paint with tube paints & more vivid colors, these would do alright for sketches. (She's using them for adding a bit of color to nature drawings and some manga/anime style art)

    Great Watercolors! |
    Verified Purchase

Due to the price, I was a little skeptical about buying these. But then i thought, why not? If they end up being on the cheaper side of how paints could be, I could use them for practice, or gift them to someone not as picky as me about their art supplies. BUT, these paints are definitely of a better quality than I expected. They do not fade after drying. They are strong colors, and not chalky. I received them whole and unbroken , I know a few other reviewers have had misfortune with them breaking up during shipment, but that doesn't always happen. I am pleased with the variety of colors!

The packaging of these watercolor a may be simple but the performance of the watercolor cakes are great. I already have a lot of watercolor brushes but the one included is a simple round natural hair brush - I ised it for mixing colors as the attached lid can be used as a palette. The pigmentation of the cakes is very good and the 36 colors given are good on their own and mix with other colors well - so you technically get a much larger variety of colors than what is solely in the container. For the $4.99 price you can't beat these! I was admittedly skeptical due to the price but I am very glad I ordered them. They make a great addition to my watercolor paint collection.

this wasn't good at all! |

I dabble in watercolor painting and have mostly used tube paints in the past, but I've been looking for an inexpensive, non-toxic tray of watercolors that I can share with my young son while we play around and make crafts. After seeing all of the positive reviews on Amazon, I was hoping that this set might fit the bill. Unfortunately, I don't enjoy working with these paints at all. They are VERY chalky, which makes it difficult to work in layers because lower levels don't show through very well. They feel gritty beneath my brushes, and the colors look dull once they've dried. (My tube paints always dry out to a paler shade than they looked when wet, but never so bland and flat.) I also imagine these paints would seriously obscure inked lines or pencil sketches, if you're the sort of artist who works in mixed media. They get three stars because they're inexpensive and the kid thinks they're great fun. They're fine for playing around with, and a preschooler or elementary student could get a lot of use out of these for $4, but if you want good color saturation or are used to transparent watercolors instead of this opaque chalky stuff, look elsewhere. I know I'm going back to the drawing board... or would that be painting board?

High hopes but ultimately a disappointment |
    0

I purchased these at my local Joanns with a half off coupon, so I nabbed these for 3 instead of 6. The packaging is so super appealing- I loved the bubbled case because they can serve as little mixing pots! I was very drawn in by the wide array of colors, as I only had a basic 8 set of crayola watercolors before this. The brush that came with mine was very nice, a small sized round brush with a decent point. Unfortunately this is about it for positives... I don't know if I got a very unlucky lot based on some other customer images, or perhaps these are far older than they look- but the cakes themselves are *extremely* chalky. Like, EXTREMELY- it's unbearable. The texture on the paper after drying is like chalk dust, it gets on your fingers and it's so unpleasant. You can see the graininess on the paper which could be a nice effect in some cases, but... the worst part is that areas of thicker color (when trying to get a more pigmented shade) will quite literally flake off if touched the wrong way, leaving massive holes where the most potent color should have been. I am so disappointed as I am absolutely in love with the packaging and would like to use them, but if the color is going to be flaking off my projects and ruining them, I can't even play with them for fun- and the texture is really just unbearable for me. Also the "wide array of colors" all dry very pale and similar which makes the vast selection nearly moot. They don't layer that well, either- at least, not the unfortunate chalky variety of this brand. If you were going to get this for children to just play around with, that would be absolutely fine! Unfortunately as someone who is trying to get into watercolor and buying these on a whim to try, it was not the quality I was looking for at all. I suppose I should have expected this but if I would have known I would have bought a 24 pack of Crayola instead, which is both much more pigmented and has no chalky texture whatsoever. :( What a shame! I may actually take the cakes out at some point and reuse the tin, which would be a shame to toss out. The case itself might be worth the 3 dollars I spent, but the paints are not worth the 8 it retails for.

We have really enjoyed the quality of these water colors on a kid level. I can't speak to adult art quality. They have lasted a long time. One con is a couple color discs arrived unglued. It's annoying, but not a reason for me to refrain from ordering again. I am hoping it was simply a fluke.

Not very good watercolors. They don't move on the paper like they should, and quite often the colors flake on the paper, leaving an unappealing look. They might be fair if your just trying to pack in a lot of color, they are very vibrant, but if you're going for a flowy dispersed watercolor look...these just won't do it.

    Good colors, chalky finish |

Watercolors and I have never seen eye to eye and I was determined to conquer them. I didn't want to break the bank breaking their spirit so these were a great choice. Bright, well saturated colors in a sturdier than I had expected case. The only downside, which is a bigger one for me than it may be for you, is it has a chalky finish that you can't adhere things to. I think its watercolor's sweet revenge from my bringing the battle to it, but the war isn't over.

    Fantastic Watercolor Paints |
    Verified Purchase

I love these paints. Recently I began watercolor painting, with the intentions of really painting real images, not just messing around with the paint or saving them for particular projects. The colors are vibrant, they mix really well to create more colors, and you can mix right on the paint cakes themselves, and the mixed color will clean up with a few strokes of a clean wet brush. The coverage is wonderful and their blending once on the paper seems to work really well. I love that there are so many colors too!

    Beginner Artist review |
    Verified Purchase

Cheap watercolors! But don't let the price confuse you, it has good enough pigmentation for my kind of usage. Of course, it won't be as good as the high class ones, but for a beginner like me with minimal water color usage (read: card making and background colors), it serves its purpose well. This is actually my second one, since I gave away my first one to a budding young artist. I also like how the pans of color have spaces around them for mixing. I use this with a water color brush or with a water brush. Mixing colors is a bit difficult from the pan, but on paper, it blends easy enough. Again, I don't use watercolors that much, but it works for me!

    Terrible, flaky, powdery paints |
    Verified Purchase

The good - there is a great variety of really beautiful colors. The bad - the paint is TERRIBLE quality. I got about halfway done painting the piece I was working on, and noticed powder on my paper - the paint, after drying, flaked off and crumbled into fine powder. This is not just one color, it's many. They also don't dissolve normally in the water - when rinsing my brushes large chunks of the paint were left floating. It's almost like it has a waxy residue. When it dries it's like you wet down a bunch of pastel chalks and tried to use them as paint. I'm quite disappointed. I seriously bought a set of water colors at Daiso a while back that are better quality than these. Check the photos to see what I mean.

    Verified Purchase

The item arrived promptly and as expected. However, it arrived damaged. The box was intact and it also came with another amazon item inside it so I doubt it broke because of jostling since I also couldn't find the missing parts within the box itself. It came unhinged but still closed as if a child had precariously slammed it shut. As a result, one of the hinges was broken and swinging the top back would always just unhinge the the top from the bottom. It's plastic, flimsy, and a starter kit so that I could easily forgive, but it also came with one of the paints missing. I can only assume it was mishandled in the warehouse and carelessly thrown in the box. And to top it all off, the plastic in a corner is cracked and missing.

hard to get colors on the brush, no matter how much moisture you drip onto the color before using the brush. Paint is grainy and difficult to get any color saturation. Many shades are so closely related in hue IRL that they are indistinguishable.

The colors, even though there is a large selection, are quite dull and leave a matte finish. I much prefer the Yasutomo sumi paint sets, which only have 12 colors but are much more vivid and alive. I'll probably use the Loew Cornell paints for certain moods, but they're not my favorite.

I bought these to make backgrounds for art journal pages. I love the color range and choices given as well as the fact that you have 36 tiny mixing pots in the lid. However, once dried I wrote over my watercolor backgrounds with a pen and it left a horrible chalky color/residue on my hand every time. If you like to do quick paintings for display, these may work well for you, but if you like to work in a lot of layers or use these for journaling, I'd look for a higher quality option. Tip: As a temporary solution, I've been covering my work with Mod Podge to fix the chalk issue. I just don't want to have to keep doing that forever.

    Better than expected |
    Verified Purchase

This set of paints was better than I had hoped for. I got them for my kids because I didn't want to pay twice as much for that kids' brand, with half the colors. Was I expecting vibrant, rich, saturated colors? No. I was expecting less than great quality for what I paid (less than the price of a grande coffee). Instead we got rich colors, in a wide array of color choices. The pods aren't the largest I've seen, but my kids have been using them regularly since Christmas and I'm just now coming back for another set. In comparison to other 'kids' watercolor sets, this set is bright, and rich and vibrant. The others are, well watered down and pale. This was one of the BEST stocking stuffers my kids got this past year and this set of paints has even gotten me thinking about taking an art class to see what else we can do with water colors.

    vibrant but a little gritty/chalky |
    Verified Purchase

These colors are very, very thin and dull looking on the paper. I've used vivid watercolors before (didn't know the brand so couldn't buy) and I was very disappointed with these. They don't blend well and you need to get a ton of the paint on your brush to get any real color out of them.

    "Grandma Spoils Me ..." |
    Verified Purchase

Ah. I love these paints. They're wonderful to work with, not waxy at all and they last such a long time. I bought two of these 36 color cake sets sets three or four years ago. Excellent set for just about anyone |
    0

I love them and will probably get another set. (My set came in a broken case and I still kept them- if that tells you anything.) Do it. I know you want them.

Excellent set for just about anyone |

    Wonderful watercolors |

I've been looking for watercolor cakes that aren't chalky like so many are, and these fit the bill perfectly. I am a self-taught artist and use them to create mixed media pieces. These watercolors are high quality, vibrant, and I love the array of colors. They were absolutely perfect for what I needed.

These are amazing. I've already made a lot of art with them and they were very easy to use and I don't think the art turned out too shabby, even for a beginner =) Would recommend!

    "Grandma Spoils Me ..." |

I love this paint set. I have used it almost everyday. I would recommend this to anyone who wants to start water-coloring but do not want to spent so much.

    It works. |

This set looks pretty, and the colors mix okay together, if vibrance isn't an issue for you, take advantage of the price of this set and go ahead and buy it.

    very low quality |

These are very low quality. They leave a chalky residue on the paper and do not blend well. The colors hardly even mix when you apply water and the colors are faint. The brush also falls apart.

When they arrived they came in broken. This really disappointed me. I have not used them yet but I am really disappointed.
