Great product at a great price! |

I bought this paper cutter to help with making my wedding invitations. It worked perfectly and the blade is still sharp even after cutting over 100 sheets of cardstock and vellum! I can't wait to use it again for my scrapping and thank you cards. This cutter saved me so much time! I highly recommend this product for home use.

It comes close to meeting my expectations |

For what it's worth, unlike the Amazon picture, the board is dark gray with a greenish handle. It's nearly all-plastic (feels cheap but it looks okay from a distance) with the exception of the blade itself which appears to be thin steel and a the bolts that keep it together. The only assembly needed is attaching the handle (just push it) onto the blade assembly. The trimmer features: - inch and metric rulers - a protective guard rail - a blade latch hook - a largely meaningless 10-year limited warranty (you pay for shipping, does not seem to cover the blade) Putting it to the test, I found that it does cut photo paper well. The cut is straight and the blade cuts through the paper with no difficulty. Because of the guard rail, I doubt that you can squeeze more than a few sheets at a time but that's not a big issue for me because I will be cutting photos and I doubt that I will ever stack more than 2 or 3 sheets at the most. Inside the box there's a note that says that Swingline is GBC's new name. One (almost) good comment on the seller. Shipping was quick and the item came in perfect condition but the packaging wasn't exactly state of the art. __________________________ Six months update: Still cuts well so that self-sharpening claim on the blade may hold some truth. On the other hand, I only cut a couple hundred sheets so I can say it's great for casual use and it COULD be good for heavier cutting activities.

Works great, affordable, and a lifesaver for parents of school aged kids! |

Any parent with kids in school has stayed up way past their bedtime working on projects the little darling "forgot" to tell you about until the night before it was due. I've had blisters on my fingers from cutting and cutting by hand, so I decided to buy one of these paper cutters for the next time. I bought mine at Walmart, for about $26. I was a little put off by the all-plastic base and unit's overall light weight, but with 100 little squares to cut out for the latest school project I was willing to give it a try. I'm very happy with the way it works, although it takes a little practice to cut exactly where you want it to. The blade is SUPER sharp (my bleeding knuckle assures you) and the cutter should only be used by adults. It cuts up to 10 regular pages (about 5 pages of construction paper) with ease. In fact, it works better with 2 or more pages than with one. One hint I learned is that you need to hold the paper very securely with your left hand, so it can't be pulled crooked as you lower the blade with your right hand. Also, as you lower the cutting bar to cut, use a slight inward pressure on the handle, to keep the blade slicing right up against the guide. This is a great little paper cutter and I'm "looking forward" to all those late nights when we'll be chopping and pasting.

A straight line every time! Great for coupons! |
    Verified Purchase

My wife is a coupon queen and I was watching her print coupons on the computer and then manually cut them out with a scissors. I was thinking that there has to be a better way! I saw this shredder as a Black Friday deal and purchased it immediately. Now she can take several pages of coupons and have them all cut out in under a minute vs. doing it by hand which takes forever and tends to come out crooked. It's a real time saver! The appearance and color of the paper cutter very closely resembles the photo on Amazon. Some of the other reviewers claim theirs was a somewhat different color. That really doesn't matter to me because its not like I need to match my furniture or carpet to the thing. This particular paper cutter is for smaller work, but larger cutters are available. We typically use it for 8.5 by 11 pages so the larger models would simply take up more space. The unit seems to be sturdy enough for our occasional usage. It should last for years to come. Plus, you get a straight line every time!

Makes coupon cutting a breeze!!!!! |

Very sharp blade and precise cutting. The cutter is lightweight but stays in place on the counter while cutting. I like that it has a safety lock for the handle when you are not using it. I cut tons of coupons in about 30 mintues (see photo)-something that would have taken hours for me to do with scissors. Can't wait to use for craft projects and scrapbooking. I really trust this brand and have not been let down with this purchase.

Worked well at first, but after just a few months, it started bending my paper rather than cutting!! |
    Verified Purchase

I really wanted a guillotine style paper trimmer and looked around reading a lot of reviews before deciding that this one would meet my needs nicely. It appears this was one time that the reviews steered me wrong! I am very dissatisfied with this product. I am a consignment seller and print out pages of product tags on lightweight cardstock that then need to be cut apart. I also have joint issues with my hands and arms and was literally in pain from cutting apart page after page of tags, so I thought this would solve multiple problems all at once! At first, I was pretty happy with this. It's quite lightweight, so you do have to hold it down so it doesn't slide around the table, but I figured I could deal with that for my needs. However, after only a few months, I went to cut some pages and was very unpleasantly surprised to find that instead of cutting cleanly, after cutting through a couple inches, the blade just bent the paper instead. It appears that the blade has dulled in a spot and now the whole product is basically useless. I wish I had just invested in a heavy duty paper trimmer rather than trying to get something cheaper.

Finally reviewing ... product quality not up to par with other Fiskers items I own |

I've been using this cutter for about a year. There are plenty of good reviews here so I'll just skip to my pros/cons. Pros: It is still cutting as well as it did a year ago. I've cut cardstock, chipboard, and paper - probably totaling a few thousand cuts. Also, it is sturdy. I've had no issues with cracking or sticking. It balances well. Cons: The biggest, and the reason for my low rating, is that the handle/blade/grid are not properly aligned. If you align your paper to the vertical grid, it will be off. If you align it to the horizontal grid, it will be off. If you guesstimate, it will be off. Cutting perfectly even paper requires pre-measuring with a ruler for my unit. Also, the latch that is supposed to hold the handle down rarely secures it for more than a few minutes. Then, it falls off. Finally, you must hold the paper down close to the guard bar or you'll get slippage toward an incorrect cut. I'm finally going to break down and buy another paper cutter. It's sad because this one still cuts but the hassle of never having even pages without a few extra steps is more than I want to deal with right now. I hope that my unit was just defective and no others are having this issue. Still, I thought I'd share a review in case it happens to someone else. I didn't ask for a replacement because I always thought I must be doing something wrong. Finally, after a year of botched cuts, I asked someone else to try it. When their cuts also failed, I realized it is the tool.

Good for light use, great value for the price. |

Work's well, really great for the price. I looked at much more expensive models but couldn't really justify the cost, as I only needed it for cutting a few sheets of 110lb cardstock and a few shipping labels a week, and I only needed to cut 1 piece at a time. The blade is sharp and cuts straight. It has a nice little locking mechanism to keep kids from playing with it. It has very little give, but it's easy to cut with, and it's sturdy enough to stay up when you leave it in the up position. (Very important for aligning paper without fear of chopping off your fingers.) The measurements start at the exact edge and go up to 11.5 inches, which is more than enough if you are only cutting regular sized paper. The measurements make it easy to cut exact pieces, and it cut every one of the 110lb cardstock sheets perfectly. (See photo.) All in all I'm glad I got this paper trimmer, MUCH easier than trying to cut out everything with scissors. I just hope the blade holds up! If not, it looks like it easily replaceable, I just hope I can find a replacement blade when the time comes. So far I've only cut about 10 sheets, but I will update this review in about a month or two with some info on how it's holding up. If I haven't updated this review, then that probably means it's doing pretty well. :)

A fair, portable, light weight trimmer with a friendly price. |
    Verified Purchase

This plastic trimmer is really light weight, and portable. No problem for me to hold it with one hand. The blade is pretty sharp, but only good in cutting 4~5 papers. The description said "cutting of up to 10 sheets at once" which is definitely not true. If you put 10 papers, the cutting would lean to left side. That means it will cut more than you need near the handle side of the blade. But for my application, 5 papers is fair enough and the price is sweet. I would recommend it for using on light weight papers and light duty cutting.
