    Not the original owner |

I bought this as used. It arrived in perfect condition. After going online and getting the app installed it went well except I couldn't connect thru wi-fi. Because it was used, how much I don't know, I did a factory reset and then the wi-fi connected and I was still able to use Bluetooth and all my previous setting were remembered in the app.

My favorite red meat cooking method |
    Verified Purchase

My husband and I recently went Keto and decided that if we were going to eat grass-fed meat (at the cost of grass-fed meat) that we needed a better sous vide cooker. After pouring over reviews for a few top brands we decided on the Joule. We love it! We cooked a flank steak (a flank steak--one of the toughest cuts of meat) for 7 hours at 132 degrees and could literally cut it with a fork. We typically buy expensive cuts of meat and don't want to risk ruining them so the sous vide method is a must. We use our well seasoned cast iron skillets with a little grass-fed butter to quickly sear the meats when done and everything we've made has been amazing! The only issue is that if I'm on the phone with a client it's a little challenging to get it set up since it will only work through the App on your phone.

    Another useless connected device |
    Verified Purchase

I should have read more reviews before I purchased something based solely on ATK's recommendation. This device cannot be operated without a smartphone. I fail to see where all this connectivity is necessary in a simple kitchen appliance. I could understand if some monitoring features were optional based on smartphone connectivity. The bottom line is that you cannot even turn this device on without a smartphone and online account. I have enough online accounts. Epic fail, Joule.

    The Best!!! |

So simple to use... the App is GREAT and you choose your temp by photos of doneness. So quiet I kept checking to see if it was still running! Everything has been delicious.

Almost Better Than the Anova (or any sous vide with physical buttons) |
    Verified Purchase

Yes I have both and I cant really make out why it is so hard to build a stick that heats water AND is easy to use. The UX for the Anova is 100% easier. Assuming you are APPless and dont need a pep talk in cooking. Like just put the pork shoulder in for 24 hrs at 72°C and you will have pulled pork. I get that ChefSteps adds value to people who like the pretty pictures and straight forward directions of how to cook. What is good about the Joule's build quality is it drains water super easily. You can actually open up and get access to the system without voiding your warranty (well before any PCB). -- Also the Joules requires far less water to operate in than the Anova. For some populations, water is very expensive (hard to obtain, hard to store, unclear when the next rain or snow fall will happen). I cant imagine either the Joules or Anova out living the other. Both have concerning design flaws that I'm not happy about. Expect them to be designed to fail. Did I get a sous vide because I wanted consistant perfect eggs? Yes. However I am not regretting this because pork chops, pork tenerloin are actually easy to get right. Would you give up a rotisserie for a sous vide? Probably not. I think that solves a lot of issues about the sous vide process. Is the sous vide process more repeatable, absolutely.

I use it regularly and it works awesome. I cannot say enough good things about it. You will not regret getting one of these. I refuse to even cook chicken anymore without it.

Love it. Very accurate. Love the ability to use bluetooth to access controls. Suggested recipes are great guide then one can vary from there in accord with personal preferences.
